  1. for the longest time I thought that an Apex system was an overpriced toy. After sinking a bunch of cash into my new tank it seemed ridiculous not to invest in a monitoring system and i was seriously impressed with how easy it was and how mtany redundancies you can program. Long story short, i am currently in Ohio visiting my parents and i get an apex heartbeat notification, then a return pump notification, then a temperature notification. I opened my fusion app and noticed that my EB832 had no power at all. So no heater, skimmer, return pump, doser, nothing!!! So a 6am call to my teenager and a whole lot of "its the orange rectangle thing, no, the other one.. is this on? is that on? is this making noise" we got it figured out. pulling too much amperage and popped the overload protection. Anyways.. if you have a significant amount of investment in your tank and on the fence about a monitoring system, they are TOTALLY worth it. cheers Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  2. However unfortunate, it is probably a good thing. As Sean said, if it makes for a more sustainable hobby then i am all for it. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  3. For what it is worth i have gotten really good results with the prodibio products. they come in glass vials which ensures that they are oxygen free and therefore last a looooong time on the shelf. I think i paid $30-$40 dollars for like 20 vials. I use them now to quickly cycle QT tanks for new fish. One vial and a sponge filter does the trick Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  4. just remember to rinse, rinse, rinse again, then give it a final rinse. you dont have to rinse.. but you end up with this and will eventually have to vaccum everything out... Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  5. there is no good silicone that will stick to acrylic. It works sometimes for baffles, sometimes they just work loose. acrylic is just a very oily substrate for things to chemically bond to. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  6. hey now.. life gets busy so hopefully i can still sneak in here. Its not like mine has blown up in the past week. anyways.. the polyps are in my frag tank that is connected to my main system. 250 gallon display, 50? gallon frag tank, 100 gallon refrugium and another 40 gallon low flow refugium. All in about 400 gallons of water. Big skimmer, chaeto, carbon and gfo, 250 watt halide over the frag tank. I have four polyps, two have been opening nicely, the other two.. not so much. and i am growing algae on the plug. lol Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

  8. A couple of thoughts... Love my blond naso and they are super chill.. mine is a total baby. In regards to redfield ratio.. I think that one is a bit of a red hearing. Yes, it is the ratio of nitrogen to phos found in photosynthetic organisms but that doesn't mean that their environment should match that ratio. From "THE MAN" Randy Holmes Farley.. The Redfield ratio, or any ratio like it, is the ratio of elements in various organisms. Exact ratios aside, all organisms have high C, less N and much less P that composes the organic molecules of their tissues. So in some sense, these are the ratios that photosynthetic organisms will be taking up out of the water (with some exceptions). It is not, however, to be thought of as ratios of elements that should be in the water, and in the ocean, the available nutrients do not necessarily follow that ratio. At any rate, as many have said, and it sounds like you are doing, having a lower alk will likely be beneficial to you. You have to remember that natural sea water is around 7. I am all about having faster growth but I think that pushing alk into the 11 and 12 range can be dangerous. There are certainly those that do it, but I don't know if that is a great reason. With numbers that high, even bringing new frags and colonies into your system would be stressfull. Jumping from 8 or so dkh to 11 in an hour or so... yikes!
  9. FYI... muriatic acid will lower your alk instantly. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

  15. I had to move my 3/4" 6'x3' tank about 80 yards from the driveway to living room. Based on a lot of things, but mostly the cost of the tank, I called some movers. Six guys showed up and about 15 minutes later and a bunch of "mother of god, this is heavys!!" It was done. Cost me $200. figured pizza and beer would be $100. Plus back surgery....lol Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
