  1. My suggestion would be right in line with the others. When my phos gets a little high.. like .04 i turn my gfo on (faster than normal alage film on the glass is a clue to test). When it gets to around .02 i turn it off. If you have a big ball of chaeto then i would harvest half of it, thereby reducing nitrate export. But to answer your question, spectracide is pure enough and here is a dosing calculator. http://www.theplantedtank.co.uk/calculator.htm Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  2. I was riding my motorcycle and my alarm went off.. [language filter]?... oh its the "acan auction alarm". Pull over, win acan, complete my ride to crown point with big smile. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  3. We can type up a visitation. I will come see my tierra del fuego and you can come see this acan Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

  5. I have not found that mag levels will srew with the pthers except when they are really low.. like say 1200. At that point your dumping alk in and it wont raise. Other helpful advice, test alk at the same time of day because ph affects the results. You can get away with 1 dkh a day but .5 is better if you have sticks.
  6. Working now Kudos on the dark art of programming skills. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  7. Anyone else having issues? I cant login. It just keeps asking me to login?
  8. if you dose 10ml less cal then alk then the cal will slowly rise on its own. once you get the calcium where you want it, then dose the same cal and alk. remember though, when you set them the same you will effectively be putting in slightly less alk because you are adding more cal than you were.
  9. Here is an EXCELLENT article on lighting.. natural vs artificial and it also brings up the notion of Daily Light Integral or DLI. This is basically the sum total of light energy received throughout the day. So I have X par from my T5.. and X par from my MH.. So you multiply the hours for each and then add them together and see how they compare. You can have a longer light cycle if it is not as intense. https://www.advancedaquarist.com/2013/12/lighting more on DLI here... From exhaustive (eg... compulsive) reading of R2R threads, many successful sps guys there try to use the DLI method. https://www.advancedaquarist.com/2009/5/aafeature Does this mean I can't have margaritas?
  10. i have some frog spawn.. 3-4 heads and a huge orange rock flower nem. i will post pics if there is interest. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

  12. i have a question.. Is it possible to become a reliable resource without wearing a tank top?? Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  13. I am not sure as the RSP nitrate test only goes to like 8 or 10. I would say over 10 at this point, i noticed some of my sps starting to take on a brownish tint so that is when i decided to try some things. My phos is coming up at 0 and .01 with the milwaukie meter which is scary but my frag tank is growing algae like a boss, so i know there is phos in there. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  14. I picked up a blonde naso, powder brown, hippo and my favorite fish of all time... an achilies I had some funky algae a couple months ago, had some semi-uncured live rock leaching phosphates. After the phosphates settled down I did two doses of vibrant and i swear it was like magic. There is a really long thread about vibrant on r2r. I will report back if it drops my nitrates effectively. 15. Here is a good question: how do you convince yourself that spending $300 on frags at a time is a good idea? Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  16. nitrates. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  17. i am in the opposite boat right now, my nitrates have been steadily climbing over the last month or two. Which makes sense because i added four large fish at once. I just added a dose of vibrant aquarium cleaner which is pretty potent denitryfying bacteria so we will see what happens. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

  21. Indeed.. it is worthy to note however that some people go totally overboard. I am astonished at how many modules and probes people get. The upcoming trident module is really a huge part of why i went with the apex. Now that they sell the base 2016 separately i would just buy a base, an 832, a temp,a ph probe, and a breakout box. 22. i would google reef chemistry and find randy holmes farleys articles. Water chemistry can be daunting so you need to make a considerable effort to understand what is going on in the tank. I spent hours reading about water chemistry with a notebook at hand. It will really help out when you start and prevent panicking. Good things to know: 1. Rodi setups and how to mix saltwater. 2. proper methods for various test kits. 3. the nitrogen cycle. 4. phosphate and nitrate and management methods. 5. how to control algae. 6. where to find $3,000 for a reef tank. lol and lastly, never ever never take advice from facebook . 23. welcome dude. FWIW, bleaching your live rock will torch that bubble alage, and just about anything else. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
