  1. thanks man. thats what i figured was happening. I have zero experience with solid state relays. i thought they were only for low voltage stuff?? Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  2. well, this happened yesterday... 40 amp two pole, normally open relay. Pushing about 28 amps though it. 8 gauge wire in, 10 gauge wire going out (to two seperate circuits.. each 14 amps). this is about the third time this has happened in about two years. I am trying to figure out WHY this is happening. i asked the guys at platt and they said.. your going to love this "it got to hot". Really?? all the relays flip.on and off twice a day. the contacts of the relay look fairly scored and pitted. Do you think that the daily arcing is wearing out the contacts so they are not making a good connection and thus shorting and over heating?? I am just thinking perhaps i should routinely replace them? Its odd though, they should have a much higher duty cycle. I have some 200 amp relays that are going on 4 years without a hiccup. thought? 3. I have a question about contactor failure. thought i would throw it out there Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  4. new tanks will see a cloudy water event due to a bacterial bloom but it is typically in the first week or so. while filter socks are good, they wont do anything for bacteria. Honestly, i would just sit tight for a couple days. Bacteria multiply very very very rapidly. They will multiply, consume what they are consuming, and then die off leaving your water clear. I would not do a water change as you did one and it didnt help. Skimmer going crazy is usually an impurity (soap, oil, etc) or large amounts of organics. If you have some carbon i would throw a bag of that in a sock. Carbon is pretty good at absorbing a wide range of pollutants. Likely more so than purigen but that is just a hunch. 5. I have often thought of teaching people how to make acrylic tanks... while building someone a tank. But it would take 4 hours mimimum Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  6. i would vote for inverts. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

  9. i remember hearing something about it.. someone was using it as a display tank treatment for something. i know a lot of people scrape them off or superglue them.. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  10. will potasium chloride kill the eggs? i got a pair of jewlers magnifying glasses on amazon in order to see the eggs. $11 Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

  13. i use melafix marine, rinse, then bayer, then rinse. the melafix is good because you can see what comes off and it is really mild. i have iodine on hand to dunk corals that start to receed but i have found it to be pretty harsh. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  14. Hey gang, picked up a new ocellaris clown at the meeting on saturday and he still has not eaten. He is in QT with coopersafe and salinity of 1.020. I did a 40 min formalin dip yesterday to head off any brook. I have tried reef frenzy, frozen mysis, and reef frenzy with garlic guard. Any suggestions? He doesn't look stressed, normal color, no sores, no panting.. just not interested in food. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  15. im thinking naso tang.... Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  16. looking good man! if it were me, i would get rid of that rock that is in the top middle. it will free up space to out things on and also make the tank look bigger. the more open water, the bigger a tank looks. best of luck! and get a QT tank!! Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  17. I built a new mixing station so no longer have a use for this. Blue 55 gallon drum with large hole cut in it. Also has small hole drilled up high for RO inlet. It has a 1/2" valve installed in the bottom and comes with a wooden stand that is high enough that a 5 gallon bucket can be placed under the spigot. will deliver within reason.. which means portland metro area. $25. cheers Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  18. you mean coral pro AND bust Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  19. lol. yeah, I am sure it is clear as mud now. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  20. yeah.. i do that as well. i went through four 200gallon boxes of IO and RC (3-1) setting up the new tank. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  21. i did a ton of research on this and finally came upon an excellent article by randy holmes farley which for those that dont know, is about the best resource we have in terms of understanding of reef chemistry. He went through a long list of things he wants and doesnt want in a salt. His choice.. plain old instant ocean which he adds a little calc and alk to in order to get it right where he wants it. That was enough to convince me, plus its one of the cheapest salts by far. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
