Brian is the man to speak with about this. -
BUMP Any takers before he heads to the store?

Thorough Tap and / or RODI Water Analysis For Reef Tanks - Cheap
Bevo5 replied to TheClark's topic in General Discussion
I'll split a PDX test if some of you want to try it. I'm in NE Portland so whoever is close? -
I got this giant from Jeff probably 4 or 5 months ago. He went through QT and has been a model citizen in my tank....but I need to reduce bioload as I'm having a hard time keeping nutrients down. So he's the first to go. I'm going to take a pic in the morning since I just put him back in the QT (had the chance to catch him and I took it), so he's chilling in a PVC pipe. Anyway - $60 takes him in NE Portland (28th and Broadway give or take). I'd also trade for corals - maybe a good sized torch or something?

That's one of your outlets triggering on. Do you have something that goes on and off a lot like a heater? You can check your log to see what it is, but a couple of the outlets click like that. I can't remember what it is about those specific outlets buts it for a reason I believe. Check the log and see what is going on and off a bunch.

I'd be interested in a few heads for sure.

Ricordia grow out (PICK UP)
Bevo5 replied to The ReefBox's topic in Grow Outs, Group Buys, and Competitions
Gonna be there nice and early to get mine. Thanks Jeff. -
I've seen that a lot of you use these tanks for mixing stations. I'm growing tired of my large Brutes - so I want to upgrade to these. I figured I'd star by asking if anybody has two available for sale, since they're pretty spendy. let me know what you got.

Real Time Alkalinity Monitoring A Step Towards Reality
Bevo5 replied to TheClark's topic in General Discussion
Whatever hppened to that one gadget that said it could monitor it all? The bAse was like 500 and then you had to buy discs?? -
Is there much variation on PH between these mixes? I switched from Reef Crystals to KENT and I constantly struggle to get my PH to stay above 8.0. I'm in the 7.8-8.1 daily swing.

I'd take that tri-tip full on.

Official Ricordia grow out competition thread

Payment sent! Thanks brian. -
You can get a new one for like 10-20 bucks. Maybe not high end enough for what you're looking to do.

I don't have a 75 - but I've got a 180 I've offered up to a few people on here lately. Upgrade time!

Hey all - lately I've noticed that my RO water (fresh) has a distinct locker room scent to it. Maybe sulfur or something? I'm not sure. I have 0 TDS coming out and I recently changed my pre-filter and carbon filter. My DI resin is relatively new (no more than 2 months). I have never cleaned out the RO units - it's a Spectrapure 180gpd system so there are two of them. Do I need to pop those suckers out and give them a rinse some time? I've been using it for the past month or so, but I figured I'd go ahead and ask if anybody knows the cause and/or issues with this smell. I am currently seeing a bit of Cyano take hold so I'm trying to sort out any possible source of issue. My dumb Hana phosphate reader is the worst so I can never get a good read - but it doesn't show up in the RO, so I don't know if that's the issue. OH - container is a 45g Brute. thanks.

Got any photos? Is it along the seems or on the sides? I'm assuming it's an acrylic tank. Does it look like little tiny cuts or more of a haze over the entire side? If it's along the seams then you've got crazing issues. I'm by no means an expert but I had a very large acrylic tank with some serious crazing issues so I did a lot of research then. In and of itself - depending on how bad and how new the tank is - a small bit of crazing isn't necessarily something to worry about. It became an issue for me because it was happening very fast almost immediately after filling up the tank. So the seams were dynamic and moving under the pressure, which isn't good on a 240g tank. Crazing isn't uncommon at all on acrylic tanks and doesn't necessarily mean it's going to pop. But if you've got crazing along the seams then something is at least moving a little bit under the pressure, which is disconcerting. Acrylic will also get that hazy look as well - which I know can by caused by certain chemicals or additives - but I'm not sure which and why it would only affect a small part of the tank.

Ricordia grow out interest
Bevo5 replied to The ReefBox's topic in Grow Outs, Group Buys, and Competitions
Sure - let's do it. -
Man for $60 just stick in the garage! Always good to have an emergency set up ready to go.
-
yeah no worries. I'm not in any rush to sell it. I'm holding onto a dream that I'll somehow find time and money to set it up....
-
Go buy the one I just took back to the store! Traded in the 3200watt model for a little portland 800watt. My heater is 300, pumps each run about 40-60...and I still have room for one or two radions. Only downside is I have to fill up the gas every 4hrs vs. the 12-15hrs the bigger unit got. But saved $200 and it's much simpler.

I've got a 180g Aqueon tank/stand but it's not drilled...and the stand is the generic factory kind, so not sure if you'd want to upgrade to something nicer. You'd have to drill the sucker or just use some HOB overflows. It's in great shape - just hanging out....could have it full when you come to pick up as long as you can wait a while to drain the sucker.... Eh - $300?
-
Yup! That's what I'm looking for. So far I'm not finding an exact match but I'm going to keep digging. Ecotech wants $45 for it...

.....which is why nothing has been taken out of the box yet! Everything is going back to the store Sunday afternoon while I wait for the cheaper versions to get in.
