  1. Yeah - just a HOB will work great. Keep it slightly lower level to make more of a splash for oxygen. You just need to plan ahead and drop some filter floss in your tank now to soak up bacteria. Then a heater and a top. I don't think you need light, but sometimes it's nice to have so you can get a better look at the fish. No rocks or anything - those soak up the copper and make it hard. I keep mine up and running at all times but I clean it out and let it dry completely between uses. I keep a roll of filter floss in the sump and cut off what I need when I want to put a fish through. Just don't get impatient and short change it. One spore gets through and the whole thing is wasted.
  2. It's all pretty easy - just takes time, and most people don't want to spend the time. The best method would be to transfer all of your non-fish stuff over to the new tank once it's cycled. You have to realize that a lot of the stuff will have ich spores on it. So now comes the time part. The only surefire way to get ich out of a reef tank is to let it sit fallow for about 80 days (the exact day count is up for discussion). The fact is that at this point in time there is no reef-safe ich cure. There are things that help the fish with slime coat etc. but as far as getting the spores out - there is nothing reef safe. So going fallow is the only/best option. As far as the QT - easy enough. Just a small set up with no rock/gravel. Just throw some PVC in there and make sure there is cycled media in the filter. Then Cupramine is a great choice. Ease up to .5 slowly over a few days and leave for the 14 days. But really - you'll just treat the tank and then have the fish wait in there while the main display gets ich free.
  3. Hey jerry - I sent you a text, but no response. You still interested? If not, no big deal.
  4. Is that 55g you think? How much would you like for them? I assume they're food grade right? I'm tired of dealing with these brute cans.
  5. Hey what are the dimensions on those? I could use em.
  6. Cut it into smaller squares just big enough to sit the rock on. You don't want the whole tank to be egg crate. But little squares of it will help spread out the weight of the rock and make it more secure. Not as easy for a borrowing wrasse but that's what the rest of the tank is for. They'll sort it out.
  7. I just hook my python up to the sink and get a good suction going. Easy but does waste water I suppose.
  8. Hey Jorge are there bulkheads on those? If Sergio passes I'd be interested.
  9. You're in luck - sale did not go through! PM me and we'll sort out a good pick up time.
  10. Sale pending. Thanks all. I'm massively re-arranging my stock list, so I'll be posting more this weekend hopefully....as long as I can trap 'em!
  11. This guy is awesome and eats everything - including some of my snails. Not all of my snails, but he'll go after ones that end up upside down. I finally caught him so I'm looking to move him. $80 grabs him. NE Portland.
  12. Dang forgot about this. I am planning on going by tomorrow but could've come by today before all your SPS vultures got the good stuff!
  13. Oh man I read that wrong. Sorry. Yeah just toss us wherever. You could even run a little sponge filter in the back of your display tank and use it when needed. Obviously some options are more Appealing to look at than others.
  14. You don't want to use rock as it will suck up the meds (especially copper) and make it very difficult to maintain your levels. That and you want to be able heavily sterilize the tank if necessary, and that would destroy the rock anyway. Best bet is to keep a bunch of filter floss tucked away in your sump. Then, when you need it, just cut a good chunk off and put it in your HOB. Just give it a lot of time in the main tank to soak up the bacteria. Keep an ammonia alert in the tank and monitor as much as you can to make sure ammonia stays in check. Other than that - buy two of everything. New buckets, new nets, new siphons. Keep it all separate. I also have a box of latex gloves that I use whenever going into either tank just to be on the safe side.
  15. Hey all - thanks for the help. The fish I'm going for are big so I'm not sure the bottle will work as well as it would with the small opening. I am going to give it a shot though. jorge - i'll hit you up if I need to run it home for a couple days. Thanks for the offer.
  16. Tank is a 200g. With a ton of rock in there. These guys are just good at dodging nets.
  17. Anybody got a fish trap I can borrow? I want to get some of these 'keep with caution" fish out of my reef. I'm tired of buying new snails every month! I'm in Portland and can pick it up this weekend if you're OK with me borrowing it for a week or so?
  18. Just seems like coloration to me - but yeah, keep on eye on it. If it is flukes - fairly easy to cure. Prazipro works wonders and is easy on the fish. I normally give every fish in QT a Prazi and Cupramine treatment. Some don't. Personal preference.
  19. Hey guys - the Chevron is back for sale. I need to move him tomorrow if possible - NE Portland. Hit me up!
  20. It's fine if you keep your house mid 70s. Guppies aren't too particular so I bet they're ok in anything over 74.
  21. Important to time the aiptasia x as well. Gotta move in slowly like a navy seal. Then feed a bit of it out when you're close. Then go in for the kill quickly before it closes up. Then I usually just empty the clip on em. Leave pumps off for 10min. I got too close to some zoa and knocked them out too but oh well. Worth a few polyps.
  22. Hey all - purple tang in sold and Chevron is spoken for...pending pick up next weekend when this dumb ice melts.
  23. Oh man, glad you guys made it back. Doesn't look bad at here yet, but jeeze - glad it all worked out. Enjoy the purple, and thanks for the kind words on the tank. Always a work in progress and I just see the problems...fun to get some outside opinions on it. BTW - Chevron is spoken for everyone. Thanks for playing.
  24. Chevron pending. Purple still available - I'm getting pictures here in 20min once the lights come on. I leave town Monday so let's do pick up today or tomorrow if possible.
