  1. There is a generic version - but a universal that would charge it would be just as good. I just don't know the specs to go buy and I'm hoping someone here can help me out with that information.
  2. Thanks but I just need the power supply, not the battery.
  3. I can't find the thread but I remember someone posting about finding a generic version of the ecotech backup battery power supply. Mine is shot and I'd like to order a new one for tomorrow but ecotech wants over $100 for item plus shipping. Hoping someone here can tell me what to order on Amazon instead. Thanks all.
  4. Man - nobody really has generators left in stores here in portland. I found one - Generac 3250. I have no clue how to estimate running time but I figure my pumps only really use like 40-60watts each so this thing should power everything. It says it'll power for 12.5hrs at half load - with 4gallons. I wanted propane so I could just store a couple tanks but oh well.
  5. Perfect timing at my house - just came back from being out of town and my ecotech battery backup is shot. blinking red/green - ecotech says it's busted. Can't get a new one before Saturday so I'm off to Home Depot to see about a propane generator.
  6. Had a freshwater fish called a Tricoti (very fast, fairly expensive) jump once. I came home and was just missing one from the group so I look around and then I realize that there is now a fish swimming in my 20g hospital tank next to the tank. Yeah - fish jumped and landed in the hospital tank...thus making him the only fish I know of to have experienced a falling sensation and lived to tell his buddies about it. Then they started to get eaten by a 12in Moba Frontosa I got....so it's hard to say which way he would have preferred to go out.
  7. Just for the record - these are awesome to add to your system. Even at regular price (this one is a great deal though) they're not crazy expensive and you can do all sorts of cool things.
  8. It's all pretty simple once you get it going - the hardest part is measuring everything. One tip - remember that once you put on the glue the pipes slide in much easier, at least a quarter inch or so on each connection. So measure accordingly. I'd also go online for higher quality ball and gate valves. I used the cheap stuff on my mixing station and they stick so much it's absurd.
  9. Pick up a strainer as well - the cone shaped strainers with slips work great - get a couple and just rotate in/out as the other is cleaned.
  10. More fun idea - strong pump and a hose to shoot water down it full force. Or the wire brush seems like a good idea.
  11. How about just a trade for some cash?
  12. Jeff, I sure hope there's a nice living room setup in your new location. Couch, rug, floor lamp, weird sculpture - the whole nine yards.
  13. Yeah that's a great solution - never thought of that. I've had to hurry up a mix of new water a couple of times.....now I keep the last two buckets of water on the side until I refill just to make sure.
  14. Brian knocked it out of the park for my stand - a big one (80x32x24). Things weighs a ton and was completely custom.
  15. I've also found the $29 investment in a 2nd temp probe to be a worthwhile investment. The two read within .1 degree of each other originally but over the past 6-8 months have gone to like .3 or so. I don't really care enough to recalibrate at this point, but it shows that over time the APEX probes can move a bit. Plus, having them both set up gives me an extra layer of security. If either of them go up then the heater shuts off and I get an alert etc.
  16. Gonna be 102 this Friday - so get those ice packs ready again.
  17. Ha - yeah - all things considered it wasn't that major. I guess instead of 'flood' I should say I soaked the garage....gave it a good soaking. At least I got to run some water through the new RODI filters...
  18. Well it took over two years of having my RODI set up but I FINALLY accomplished the right-of-passage known as flooding your garage. This one is totally stupid. I came back from a long trip and the freshwater 45g brute had a funkiness to it so I decided to just flush it all and start over. I opened up the ball valve and emptied it out via buckets. Then I turned on the RODI unit and walked away - float valve installed. Yeah, I forgot to close up the ball valve. Three or so hours later I went into the garage and it's proper soaked. At least I found out where the unlevel areas are as there was a good 2in pool built in the side. Oh well....concrete dries.
  19. Yeah seriously - the equipment you added and the work is worth something as well. Not like a brute can loses it's functionality. Hell, I'd rather have one that has gone through a bunch of refills just to clear up the plastic a bit.
  20. Oh man. That's awesome. I'm completely out of plugs though. Dang it. I mean literally maxed out. Got too many extension chords etc. I need another eb8.
  21. Wait - buy the $200 heater for that 29g. That would be amazing. Do you have the space for an EHEIM Jager? They're a bit long, but great heaters.
  22. How about this: Anybody have some fully-established sponges they could sell me? My new plan is to set up a 40g and toss the more prized fish in there. I just don't have much in the way established media to help it out. Everything is already in a QT..
  23. AH true! I'm in Portland. Thanks for the replies all. Yes - my long shot idea was that someone had a large QT tank that they wouldn't mind copper in. That's a long shot but worth asking. Not ideal. With the LR plan - I just need a way to instantly cycle a tank. I have a QT and sponges in my sump to run the QT but there's a big difference between the bio needs of 2 or 3 fish and 15 large fish! I wish it were easier but I don't have enough established media to make that a healthy experience. So I figured I could just buy some LR and nuke it and move on with my life when it's done. Worth some cash to save the fish. At this point - given that it's unlikely Plan A or B will work....I'm setting up a giant UV (which will help longterm but not in the immediate), going to keep water nice and clean, feed garlic and hope they can fight it. Ick has been in the system for about 4 months and only a couple fish ever show signs...so I'm hoping things will settle down. Fingers crossed at least.
  24. The other possible solution would be if someone has about 50 pounds of WELL ESTABLISHED live rock - base/sump rock whatever - that I could throw into the spare 180 and get it up to speed instantly. I could see that working. I can fill up the 180 with about 100g of spare RODI I have on hand, then use tap (ugh) - let it spin around for 24hrs to dechlorinate since I can't use Prime given the copper coming. And then use the LR to filter and throw everyone in there for a couple months.
  25. This might be a long shot - but after about 6 months of having bouts of ick come and go in my 200g I’m thinking it’s time to just go fallow. It’s really frustrating - but I had a trigger about 6 months ago that I didn’t have QT for (ugh) and he brought ick in the tank. Now, my tangs go in and out of having it. They’re doing ok, but I just QT’d some new fish and put them in the tank and a week later they got it…so it’s for sure still in my DT. Most of the fish never show any symptoms, but these new fish and the few tangs that have it - are getting worse. Problem is - I don’t have the filter capacity to set up a new big tank. Even though I do have a spare 180 in the garage, moving them into a brand new tank, with no established filtration seems like a disaster waiting to happen anyway. All of my LR has frags glued on it. So - this is a long shot. But I’m thinking maybe I could move the fish to someone else’s already set-up system and pay to rent out some space while I let the DT go fallow and copper the existing fish. I figured it was worth asking - if anybody has the tank space for something like this. I’d obviously pay for the time and help. Thanks.
