  1. I've got this 180g tank/stand/tops that was only used for about a year and is now sitting in my garage holding equipment. I figured it was worth seeing if anybody needed a large - undrilled - tank. It's easily drilled (just not the bottom as it's tempered). So it's: 180g with black trim, black pine stand, glass tops, and I'll throw in 2x36in dual bulb fluorescent fixtures. - $350? No stairs or anything - back right up and load it in nice and easy. NE Portland.
  2. ^^It's an extra. Apex is great. For sure go for it. The Gold is a big chunk of change but depending on what you ultimately want to do it can save you some cash. I started with a JR and quickly had to add things.
  3. That's awesome. I really wanted to plumb everything into my garage but chickened out. I did plumb my ATO reservoir into a closet behind the tank and it's a ton easier. I can only imagine how awesome it is to have a whole room dedicated to the sump and equipment.
  4. Where are you located? I'm contemplating this thing - but not sure if I have the floor space....
  5. I have an MP10 - not quiet drive. I have to check on date. What's a fair price for these? I don't even know.
  6. Thanks y'all - I don't mind changing them, as I prefer to get the junk out of the water flow anyway. I just a bit more flexibility to change them on my own timing. It's a good idea to try and raise them up a bit. I can see if that will work. If not, I'm just going to slap that elbow on there and push water through the sock more. They're 7in socks...100micron. Pump is a Jabao 12,000 set to like the third setting. I think I'm pulling about 2500GPH through it after everything is said and done. Tank is a 200g. Bit high for turnover I guess....I could always slow that down.
  7. This all seems fairly logical - but I'm having an issue with my filter socks just getting completely overrun in a couple days, but only being 1/2 dirty. So water isn't getting through the whole sock. I don't mind changing them every couple days but when the [language filter] things overflow my skimmer goes nuts. Right now It's a straight shot down from the main drain (1.5in) into the sock at about 2in below the surface. I was thinking I would add a 45deg elbow to the end of the drain, directing the water through to the back of the sock more. Any reason that's a dumb idea?
  8. Oh man - might be too far of a drive for me. Going to the meeting this weekend?
  9. I'll grab a green one from you if I can get to you - where are you located?
  10. What are you dosing as your carbon source? Vodka? I do have a spare BRS doser laying around and I could easily rig that up to start dosing something...
  11. So I've got the 30g Brute can in a closet behind the tank. I drilled a whole in the wall to run the lines to the sump. In the Brute I have a float switch that will send me an alarm once the level gets too low - and at that point it will turn off the pump altogether so it wont run dry. The switch is about two inches higher than the pump, though, so I can manually top it off a bit more if I'm out of town or something...manually meaning turn on the ATO pump via the Apex. At first I was refilling the can by pumping in water from my RODI station, but I kept having a problem with saltwater in the lines (I was using the same pump system to do water changes so there was always salt leftover). Now I just walk the 20ft with one of those jugs to refill it with fresh water.
  12. Hey thanks - my main goal at this point is nutrient export along with maybe a little pod growth, but not really worried about that at this point. I would go for carbon dosing but I figured I would give this a shot first since I have the space in the sump. Plus I'm worried about having to carbon dose forever....definitely need to research more of that before going that route. Thanks.
  13. Ok sounds good - I'm going to just toss a ton in there and see what happens.
  14. I'm also looking for some chaeto - in Portland??? Anybody?
  15. I'm finally setting up the fuge in my sump. It's 15in x 21x. I'm looking for any tips and best practices for how to get the most out of this space. Right now I'm kind of thinking about getting a bit of that Fiji Mud and then topping it off with a layer of sand. Then just a bunch of cheato. All powered by that 10k light... Anybody got any tips? Should I toss rock in there or leave it be? Thanks.
  16. I'd love for more stuff to only cost $30....
  17. Alright screw it - I'm going to try this one: http://www.amazon.com/Woods-8-5-Inch-Reflector-150-Watt-6-Foot/dp/B000HHQ94C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1457393646&sr=8-1&keywords=clip+on+shop+light I'll add on that bulb and see how it goes.... Next up - who wants to sell me some cheato?
  18. Hey thanks - that's a good bulb, at a good price. Im more worried about the fixtures themselves being indoor/outdoor. I'm just gonna cruise over to home depot and see what they have for outside use. I'm sure something is fine since it seems like most people just go with the cheap clip-on shop lights.
  19. Well - mostly I'm just worried about putting a fixture like that above water....something that isn't made of that application. Just seems like that's a lot of moisture....
  20. I don't trust the shop lights you get at home depot - so I'd prefer to buy a fixture made for aquarium environments. If you have a smallish clip-on light that would light a refugium about 12in x 20in. Let me know. Thanks.
  21. Ocean in a box up in Seattle does great tanks. And talk to brian67 about stands.
