  1. Eschopps external overflow boxes work great! I vote don't drill an established tank. I can't imagine having glass particulate in there (and I doubt you'd avoid it) is going to be good for gills and what not. I did the same thing you did on our 75g and have come to actually appreciate the overflow boxes. They don't actually take as much room and you can easily adjust the water level of your tank. That said, I'll definitely be drilling future tanks. Feel free to PM me to chat about the use of externals if you'd like. I have been using one on each tank for a while with no problems.
  2. Glad to hear it man. This has been one of more alarming reef problems I've seen.
  3. I was just incorrect on the reason they're generally not reef safe. Danlu, I see there that crosshatch triggers are considered to be mostly safe around the CUC. How are yours doing? What kind of inverts do you keep? Really great information and I'm surprised I have completely overlooked this family of fish due to an undeserved reputation. Ah well, always learning!
  4. O _ O I thought triggers were known coral killers. Those are gorgeous!!!
  5. Well let's see em! I have 4 clams, 3 maximas and a derasa. The maxima I got from Rudy is by far the craziest, so, for posterity...
  6. Apologies Softy, you were right there with him and showing me the collection. Also got the Oregon Mummy Eye. You two had a treasure trove!
  7. I got mine from MrBret at the expo. Mean frag that is growing like a beast. It eats whole mysis.
  8. Hey Kim, Victoria asked me a question about your tank and now I'm curious too. Why is there no corraline? Our tanks grow the stuff like it's going out of style, which can be very obnoxious to clean constantly. We just wanted to know if you never introduced it or did something to get rid if it.
  9. Congrats for the sale and the purchase! Good attitude despite potential drama. Glad to see the thread stayed about the fish.
  10. My wife and I had a lot of fun and it was nice to meet a lot of you! Thank you Kim and Sirena for having us. We really felt welcomed and comfortable. Looking forward to future meetings and glad to be a part of this community.
  11. Welcome to the forums! There's a great group of reefers on here that are very community oriented. I'm sure you'll find plenty of helpful interaction.
  12. Reef octopus 150sss. Smallest footprint they have, good skimmer, appropriately rated.
  13. Yikes, should have put that person out on the floor.
  14. Congrats on the new tank! Looking really nice! Just a small suggestion on your Mr. Chili's Mixing Jugs, perhaps drill a 1/4" hole in the lids and wind your cord through there. It avoids evaporation and subsequent increase in your dosage. I don't know much, but that was helpful to me. I love your camera feed!
  15. Very interesting thread. I have no interest in reptile stewardship but am always interested in the care requirements for "exotic" pets. Now I know, don't pet the GTP.
  16. Nvm,you answered in your thread.
  17. What did exactly happen Brian? Seam just busted open from a bad weld?
  18. I hope TPA employees don't see this. My first fish purchase was 3 chromis and 3 firefish. Dead by morning. I threw a little bit of a fit at them. They understood. I had no idea how utterly violent our tanks are. Then I bought a ruby red with the credit. Dumb plan. I've come a long ways. Haha.
  19. Same thing you did. Tech m. I'm at 140g total volume. I am not even close to burning the bottle. Sorry to preempt your question, but I assume that was your destination. Have to say I'm confused and curious why yours was so stubborn. I have read mag gets exponentially more difficult to raise the higher above 1400 it gets.
  20. See? The magical chromis number. :p Dead things in my tank get left for the CUC. I'm heartless that way and my system is established enough that I just kind of chuckle at the thought of parameter spikes from a single dead fish. My leftovers from feeding the fish and coral leave more excess than even my biggest fish dying possibly could. Besides, everyone likes (to watch) a free meal. >
