  1. Heads up, if you're doing plumbing work - I noticed there's a bunch of deals at ~50% off at the Marine Depot liquidation sale. (all sales final/etc etc) I have no affiliation here, just placing an order and passing along the info. https://www.marinedepot.com/aquarium-plumbing
  2. Sure is a fire pit! Some nights a beach bonefire is nice, some nights a local firepit fire is nice. Does allow some people to be in the house, and some around the fire - and still be one party. The grill was used for burgers on the 4th, so for breakfast on the 5th... It had to be marinated flank steak, in resting butter. Soo good!
  3. Water is a good theme for the 4th of July, and a bunch of reefers. Happy 4th of July everyone from Rockaway Beach. Let the BBQ, Beer -> Wine, Fireworks Begin!
  4. Reef Tank hobby saves the day! Would have you installed the whole house generator if you didn't have a reef tank? I suspect Not.
  5. Great tutorial. I've always found OSC a bit of a brain twister every time I consider using it.
  6. I think I'm lucky. Out of the tap my TDS is around 15. Occasionally 25. And 0 out of DI, even right after turning on the unit. I do run a booster-buddy on the system, so it auto flushes the membrane. But that's not what you're asking about.
  7. Sympathies. Well loved, well cared for. Couldn't ask for much more.
  8. Great weekend! Weather was perfect, lots of time with old friends, time with new friends... Much nicer friends than these two ugly beasts.
  9. Left Wednesday for a long weekend at the beach. Got home tonight, and Surprise - where did these two ugly things come from! They're in my overflow, at the water line. At least they're easy to remove.
  10. Agreed, replace them. Start by looking for Stainless 316 (SS316) This is the softest of stainless, but the most corrosion resistant. You don't care how "hard" the steel is, it's going into acrylic. I've actually had good luck finding them on either amazon or ebay. What you eventually use doesn't HAVE to be 316. it's just one of the best. you'll find 306, 308 ... they're still SS, if thats what you find - use them.
  11. In concept, you could plug This GFCI device into each EB832 (or EB8) outlet, and then plug a heater into it. 12. Any chance you can dig up a picture of what you did in the 2015 thread? Even if not original pictures, just something generally showing how it looked. I completely get the idea, just looking to get a better idea of the physical results.
  13. Found the thread, no root cause. But theme was still the same. In this thread, there's also a reference to AFCI/GFCI as well.
  14. My setup is a lot more equipment, and I run it off 3 dedicated 20A circuits. Here's my inputs, and reasons why. at least two 20A circuits. Electrician is coming out, wont cost much more, panel can easily handle it, and it gives your tanks some safety. on each tank, split water movement equip between the circuits (return pumps on one circuit, MP40's on other circuit) If one breaker ever trips, the other keeps water flow going You have an electrician out - no reason to ask for 15A circuits, just run 20A's. (these are the two standard sizes in our houses, get the bigger one) I'm currently running GFCI on each of the circuits. BUT, I've been considering AFCI's. Got this summary from a R2R thread. Didn't someone in PNWMAS have a minor fish room fire in the past 12 months? Breaker - Purpose protects the wires from over current GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) - Purpose detects ground faults and de-energizes the circuit or outlets downstream from the GFCI in the event of a ground fault over the specifications normally 4-5 milliamps AFCI (Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter) - Purpose detects current generated from an arc between the hot and neutral wires and de-energizes the circuit or outlets downstream from the AFCI in the event of an arc fault: Designed as fire prevention safety device
  15. Okay, let's cut to details. What's your feeding regime of the aptasia farm? tell us about growing out aptasia. daily feeding, multiple times a day feeding, heavy feeding, light feeding. Light or no-lights ... How have you outfitted the farm, to enable harvesting aptasia to feed to the berghia? Is this just a low flat tank, or do you have struture in it? course gravel bottom, so it's easier to pull out an aptasia to feed, or just razor blade them off flat glass Pictures?
  16. I've got one you can borrow for a week. Caught my wrasse two weeks ago, enabling to move it between tanks. PM me if interested.
  17. I got a very thoughtful gift this week. With me hinting/suggesting/or even realizing this would be a good addition. I love it!
  18. An interesting article how rats introduced on remote islands end up with reduced coral populations. And when removed, how the reefs recover. Spoiler Alert -- Guano is the key https://arstechnica.com/science/2021/04/want-to-save-an-islands-coral-reefs-get-rid-of-invasive-rats/
  19. I've built a Mandarin feeder to supplement the natural supply that's in the tank. Currently stocking it with baby brine every other day. Design has been well published. If found it easy to make from a 4" drain cover (green) fit into an end cap piece. Glued large frag plate to the bottom to give it some weight. So far, my Watchman Goby thinks it's the bomb. 20. If (When) I find another load, I'll give you a proactive ping. I'll look again tonight in the overflow, maybe there's more in the box itsefl.
  21. Crap. Just last night I found a robust population of Aptasia on the stand pipe in the overflow box of my frag tank. I thought of you, but hadn't heard any I-need-more in a while... So i just bleached the crap out of them (stand pipe is removable). The odd part, was looking like I've knocked my aptasia population down to invisible again. (in all visible tank space) And then I found this corner of them! Really shows how aptasia stay a pest. Only takes one protected spot to be the source of them spreading again. These were huge, and I could see they were loaded to release new babies. (tentacles swollen, lots of little white rings up and down them. I think they just break off and release them free floating.) Think I'll take the frag tank down this weekend and bleach the Whole Thing!
  22. $18 post amazon coupon offered. Mine will be here Saturday. I'm an iPhone user, so this one will get plugged into a laptop. Simple enough.
