  1. Looking good Miles. I see that Miyagi Tort is starting to show it's green. That's a difficult step on that one in my experience. I've been dealing with dosing with my own custom built dosers for Alk/Calc and do magnesium by hand because it needs so little. You bring up an interesting point of dosing drift. I have had to adjust mine upwards a minute at a time due to increased demands every month or so. It's been a fun adventure. I like your pvc line holders.
  2. Does anyone have a Red Planet frag they'd like to trade me? I've got quite a few different things I can offer for it. Let me know!
  3. I tried running GFO a while back and within an hour every clam (I have 4) had closed up completely. I took it out and replaced it with carbon again. I've never seen my clams do that again and didn't have it in long enough to affect corals.
  4. Looking good! How do you attach your gorgonians? Is that just IC-gel?
  5. Wow... We left Salem and it was snowing a little bit. By the time we got back to Woodburn heading south on the return trip we had seen probably a dozen flipped vehicles. Everyone had to slow down to under 30mph and even in our big Ram with 4WD on we were slipping all over. Totally worth it for the purple tang. Thanks Jon, pleasure to meet you and see your awesome tank. That thing is a sight to behold.
  6. As much as I was trying to avoid the drive, I really think I want that purple. Want to pm me your number? I can come get it this morning/afternoon.
  7. Aiptasia-X has always eradicated them in a hurry for me. Use the needle syringe that comes with it, turn the flow off and make them eat it. I always leave the pumps off for a good 10 minutes to make sure they melt. I'm not a huge fan of discosoma mushrooms, turns out the same product will fix that issue too.
  8. As a Prime account, that's a pretty good tip. Thanks for that! I order most of my gear there because of the free shipping. edit: Ok, I got the new shaft and repaired the XF-150. It's in my tank on 50% pulse @ ~1s. I tried using just the gyre and my return outlet but the opposite side of the tank wasn't getting quite as much turbulence as I liked. I turned the RW-4 on the right side back on at 100% and am now very pleased with the overall flow pattern. Very random, no dead spots, crazy surface movement and nothing is getting blown back to the ocean. I'm glad I waited it out and repaired the unit. Definitely a major improvement over the two pumps on the left side it replaced.
  9. I don't know how you can stand it having that awesome thing empty. You've got me chomping at the bit to see that thing filled up!
  10. Interesting. Same size tank I've got and I really wouldn't have expected it to do the job alone. That'd be awesome if i could just take all my other pumps out completely and rely on the gyre+return for flow. Judging by some videos I've seen online, they do indeed generate a hilarious amount of water movement. I guess the new shaft for mine will be here tomorrow so I'll get some video uploaded by tomorrow night.
  11. Looking really nice! I love the tight budget coupled with the Helfrichi. Seriously though, that goni is out of control and the sponge is really cool! I'm totally jealous.
  12. Well it's been around two months. I've used up one 8 oz bottle of Vibrant and have just opened a second 16 oz bottle. If it's not gone by the end of this bigger bottle I'm going to declare this product a flop. I dose 15mL 2x/week. As far as I can tell it hasn't really done anything at all! I continue to find bryopsis clawing it's nasty way back in my sump. It occasionally tries to get footing in my over flow boxes but that's easy to scrub out. The main issue I'm having is that it hides in my other macro and then explodes out and gets all over everything around it. I hate this stuff. If it ever got a foothold in either my display or frag tank I'm not sure the tanks would survive it. I think a big asset I have going for me is that I run my sump lights for 18 hours a day which is much longer than my display/frag lights run. I believe the longer light cycle encourages it to grow more in the sump. Ah well. I'm still fighting the good fight with it. I'll keep you all posted.
  13. I have a 75g display tank as well. I'm hoping the xf150 will be enough for the whole tank but I don't expect it to be. I am not a fan of using any wave maker going front to back either.
  14. One on the left wall pointing to the right, one on the right wall pointing left. The RW series is the replacement for the WP series, so I'd get the RW's if that's the route you choose. I'll be replacing the WP-25 on the left with the XF-150 Gyre in the next couple of days. I'm not sure if the RW-4 wavemaker on the right wall will be too much with the gyre but right now I'm anticipating leaving it in and dialing them both down.
  15. I haven't used the gyre style jebao's but their regular wavemakers have been pretty solid. I have a WP10/WP25/WP60/RW4 and they all still work like champs. I've heard bad things about their gyre ripoff's though. I can't speak for the Maxspect ones. I have a used XF-150 that has a busted magnetic seal on it's rotor shaft that should be repaired in the next couple of days when the part comes in. I'll be posting a video of what it does to my flow when it goes live. Considering the very negative experience with Maxspect customer service (didn't care because warranties don't transfer and didn't seem concerned that such a crazy part of it broke) I think in the future I'll just be buying Vortech.
  16. Dang. That's a little far for me. I'll pass, thank you for the offer.
  17. Where are you? I'm very interested in the purple. I have no tangs in my display and have been waiting until the price was right on a purple.
  18. I've had issues with them in the past but I've had one in my frag tank for several months with no problems. Inverts are unpredictable. I had to squish an emerald in my display a few weeks ago because I sat there and watched him ripping pieces off a super healthy welso. As for catching the shrimp, I just waited until the lights were out and the peppermints came out to forage. A simple hand net handled it from there.
  19. Might want to pm them about this thread. I'd like to see what they have to say as well.
  20. /\/\/\ Haha no worries. Just whatever you're comfortable trading. Acans are always an easy answer for me. Do you have any birds of paradise or ponape birds nest? I'd happily trade the jackolantern for one of those! \/\/\/\/ Very generous of you, sounds like a deal! Thanks Bert!
  21. Sounds good. I guess it looked bigger than it is in the pictures.
  22. I'm a big fan of acans in addition to the above mentioned stuff. I dunno, just something pretty that I don't already have basically. I'll put a good one aside for you! Edit: hey I was looking at your tank and was wondering if you could get a head off that dendro? That'd be a cool option if at all possible.
  23. For sure. Probably could deal with this when we meet up for the gyre.
