  1. Here's a fairly helpful summary given by Coral Magazine: https://www.reef2rainforest.com/2022/02/09/aquarium-apocalypse-can-lacey-act-amendments-really-cripple-or-end-the-u-s-aquarium-and-pet-trade/ There is a useful discussion between Rich Ross, Ben Johson and Matt Pedersen here: Notwithstanding the title of the episode, "the aquarium hobby is doomed" it doesn't seem likely that the Lacey Act amendments will become law anytime soon. It is very important, however, to contact our senators and let them know why the Lacey Act amendment should not become law in this form. And, finally, we need to support the PIJAC, wich is the only political organization that our hobby has to communicate our concerns to congress. See link below. https://pijac.org/
  2. It's amazing how easy it is to lose track of gradual changes in the tank when you are looking at it every day. Having a tank journal really helps you see your tank's evolution over time. Here you can see just about exactly one year's growth in these two pictures.
  3. Ok, it looks like the forum software is not showing the note that I left when I moderated the post. Sorry about that. I will try to fix it. FYI: The Lacey Act is not new. It is our oldest environmental law (1900). The legislation in question was an amendment to the Lacey Act, and this amendment is poorly written and seriously flawed. Similar things have been tried in the past and they died on the Senate floor. The same will happen here, but it is extremely important that we reach out to our senators to explain why it should not pass.
  4. New tank video, showcasing my fish!
  5. Good points. The amendment is a poorly written piece of legislation that, fortunately, will not pass the Senate. I just emailed both of our senators about it.
  6. I love your aquascaping, Steve. This brings back memories of the Oregon Reef! Can't wait to see it after a year of growth.
  7. I've been using the Reef Blueprint Isol8 trace elements the past month. I've backed off my ATI elements a bit and upped my Kalk, so I wanted to be sure my corals were getting enough trace elements. So far, my Gonioporas seem to like it. Waiting on an ICP from Oceamo to confirm that my levels are within the appropriate ranges.
  8. I will come up to Portland to visit the shops in late Feb and we can meet up.
  9. I actually have 3 different lineages. Two from frag farmers and one from coraltopia. I will take some pictures.
  10. Hi, I have weeping willow toadstool I can trade. I am out of town until Feb 20, so if you can wait that long we can arrange a trade after then.
  11. [Oops.....I just posted this in the wrong thread. Deleted there and moved here.] Hi All, Hoo, boy....this has been quite a few months. First, my 74 yr old dad with MS has been in and out of the hospital with Covid TWICE since Christmas. Somehow, he pulled through both times and is currently doing better at home. Then, two weeks ago, my 4 yr old havanese started having severe pain in her neck and limbs. This progressed into almost total paralysis. We rushed her to the local vet several times and then to Portland to a neurologist. She was diagnosed with meningioencephalitis and nearly died several times. After 6 days in the vet hospital we got to take her home. At least now I have something to say when my wife complains about how expensive my reef tanks are......yikes! Notwithstanding all of these trials, the REEF TANK MARCHES ON! Thank goodness for this hobby and distraction it provides. Take care of yourselves, everyone!
  12. I've seen scrapes that look like that on my Niger trigger in the morning after he pulls himself out of the rockwork he was sleeping in the night before. They are always gone by noon.
  13. Have you tried adding Berghia to the treatment tank? It seems like a group of them might do the job a little more quickly than the shrimp.
  14. I have a ton of pods in my chaetomorpha, which makes me think that some of the compact Santamonica algae scrubbers would well as "pod hotels." Do we know that they actually use a plastic habitat without biological material?
  15. Whoa.....how many gallons is that? Maybe zoas and sarcophyton?
  16. Wow! Great job on getting that fish to color up. I can't tell any difference from my wild caught fish. It makes me want to try one of the little ones too. FWIW, I do full Humblefish method for all of my fish except those purchased from the Biota facility in Florida. They have such exacting husbandry and bio-safety practices there that I usually just observe them for a few weeks (coral beauty, forktail blenny, rabbitfish, etc...) and I throw em' in the tank.
  17. @Jadams7 had some zoa packs on Facebook.
  18. I would be surprised if it had enough so you could skip part C.
  19. NP balance is short carbon chains for carbon dosing. Part C is trace elements for your saltwater.
