  1. Interesting to hear of all the issues with hermits and emeralds. I didn't ever have a problem with either but had mostly SPS in my tank. What are folk using as CUC alternatives? There were definitely some things that these guys would take care of that snails and cucumbers wouldn't (besides the expensive coral that is!).
  2. Cool to see them getting their stripes - sounds like that pair is going to keep you pretty busy with broods!
  3. Sorry to hear you are having to give up some of your fish - hopefully they all find good homes. Would have loved the wrasse if my tank were up...
  4. Glad to hear the tear down has been casualty free! Sorry it had to come down but best of luck with the new build - looking forward to seeing how it turns out. Also, good luck with the move.
  5. Very cool Chewie! Thanks for posting these... it will be fun to follow their progress. I also remember the many informative Barelycuda posts on all things clown rearing.
  6. That is a fantastic looking setup - everything including the plumbing and electric looks super clean and I love the light. Congrats on getting it up and running. Looking forward to seeing it with the livestock!
  7. Hope to make one of these events after my many year hiatus - great to meet you at the expo Kim!
  8. Thanks for the great pics everyone. Nice to see some of the fantastic pieces that found new homes before I got there.
  9. Glad to hear it was a success and thanks to all who obviously put so much hard work into pulling it together. I bailed on my tank plumbing so I could make it out for the last hour or so and was happy to meet lots of familiar forum names (Emerald, FlashyFins, MrBret, Softy, et. al.). Saw lots of things I would have loved to bring home but, alas, wouldn't work too well without a tank! Hopefully some of you folk who scored such nice pieces will be wanting to frag them by the time I'm actually up and running (fingers crossed). In the meantime, I guess I better get on that plumbing! Here's hoping there is a repeat next year!
  10. Oh man... I was really hoping to have the new tank up and running by now but have been spending too much time at work. I may have to come by and torture myself anyway - that and get (re)acquainted with all the great folk from here. Of course, I was going to spend the time plumbing the tank. Oh well...
  11. Thanks for tracking down those parts for me. It was a pleasure to meet you and a really nice spot for a day trip. Good luck with the rest of the sale!
  12. Hey Chad, Left you a voicemail and returned your email. Hope to see you tomorrow. Sean
  13. Nice tank and really nice rock scape! Unfortunately, I am very familiar with bristle worms of that size - ugh!
  14. Nice collection of tangs (and awesome tank)! I always loved the purple and powder blue. Had a few of the latter but the only purple I ever got decided to go after my scopes tang relentlessly. Unfortunately, I was only able to catch the purple so he went back to the store. Enjoy!
  15. That is a good looking mushroom! Congrats on the babies. Wouldn't mind one of those some day but sounds like I need to start playing the lottery to afford one.
  16. Indeed - it seems to have similar nutrient export capabilities as a refugium but in a nice compact package that would be great for the AIOs or other applications where a large sump isn't an option. I plan on a fairly good sized refugium as I should have the space and like having the extra bio capacity but this is a cool idea. Glad to see it's working for you. Might also be a good way to add capacity easily in case of nutrient overloads.
  17. That is a nice find - thanks for posting. It is reassuring to see large scale cultivation taking hold in the hobby as opposed to extraction - especially in countries that could probably use the diversification of industry.
  18. Interesting. Thanks for the info and link. Glad to hear that things have stabilized. I will have to keep the scrubber in mind as I get my tank up and running - that is a new development since I took the old one down - or at least I hand't been aware of them at that point. Also will check out the Triton dosing.
  19. Nice! Some of those have really taken off - how long have you been doing the dosing?
  20. Let's see... this looks like fun. Things that I am pretty good at include basic science research (putting my PhD on neuroscience to work before I moved into administration in order to make a living). Working on mechanical things including cars, bikes (two of my favorites), etc. - used to put together my own computers when I had time. Photography - used to shoot dance events for my favorite troop here in PDX. Garden and interior design - I inherited a pretty good eye from my mother. Puzzles - I love to figure things out and put things together. Wish I was good at music as I enjoy it a lot but, sadly, a late start has restricted me to drumming (world music stuff mostly) and just appreciating other talented folk.
  21. Man - this is a really nice setup. I would have been all over this if that footprint would have worked for us (needed to go long and narrow instead). Hope this goes to a good home soon!
  22. Congrats on the tank - that will be a sweet setup! Indeed, Smann has always been great to work with and very generous - I got quite a few nice frags from him back when my tank was still up and running.
  23. Nice collection! Wish I had gotten the tank up and running before your PDX trip - would have loved some of your frags. Maybe next time...
  24. Now I'm starting to feel at home! Definitely some changes over the years...
