  1. Nice additions Brian! I was actually hoping to come in this weekend to pick up that mimic and the potters... saw them earlier this week but couldn't take them with me at the time. Really nice fish! Missed the chaoti though - would have loved to see him in person. I am sure they will all do well.
  2. Sweet light! Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately for my budget) I don't have a tank for it to go over.
  3. Second this. This is where I get mine in NE.
  4. I was admiring this just last weekend. Looks to be a super clean and efficient setup. If I didn't already have one... GLWS!
  5. Would be happy to help out but just got my first chalice last week so Zoolander is probably a safer bet. I'm in NE besides. If you don't find a more convenient option however give me a shout.
  6. Second that - Smann is a very generous guy who has had some fantastic tanks over the years. Was bummed to see that he was without a system now. I had some nice frags of his back before my tear down. Very thoughtful - thanks Steve!
  7. Those are just insane Brad. One of these days, I need to see this operation in person... I promise to sign a nondisclosure form
  8. Nice! Thanks for taking this on Cherany. I didn't realize we ended up with one of each style. If I am remembering this correctly, the USB model has the newer style sensor that, supposedly, has a more even response across the spectrum - hence providing a potentially more accurate reading. The caveat being, you will need a computer and the downloadable software to run it.
  9. Soooo beautiful! Thanks for sharing the collection. Managed to find the Acid Trip in there right away - it's so distinctive. The pics are great BTW.
  10. Went and looked that one up - drool. I also went back to your tank thread to see if I could find it... man, I could just stare at those all day. Amazing collection! Sorry for the thread hijack. Now I need to go look up those wrasses! Jon - nice tip about the worms for picky eating new arrivals - thanks!
  11. Its manufactured by an Italian company and sold through a Canadian firm here in North America. Got a used setup for my old tank, liked it and stuck with it. Very similar conceptually to the apex from what I can tell. They have newer WiFi and touch screen versions but mine is "old school" scroll and click.
  12. Those are really sweet! Glad to hear they are at least eating something. Good luck getting them acclimated. BTW - what is the yellowish acro right next to the two lower wrasses?
  13. Hi Mark, Tried to PM you but wouldn't go through so will ask here... Do you have an overall height for this setup with the light and any necessary clearance (for cord connections etc.). Also a brand/model for the light would be helpful. Thanks!
  14. Hmm, If I start dieting now... Naw - guess I will have to sit this one out as I have a standing conflict with Sat AMs anyway. I wish I could join you all though - way more fun than I will be having. At least I can say that I don't plan to be punched in the face (what's with that Andrew?).
  15. This is good info. I am probably one of the few not using an apex around here - have an Aquatronica instead - but am looking at doing the same thing... adding a wireless bridge to go from my existing network interface to wifi for the added convenience. I think it has the same recommendation regarding firmware updates but I also have a direct PC interface that I could use with a laptop to do that if necessary.
  16. Ugh! That sounds really bad. I know I almost gag just adding a drop to frozen food while it thaws!
  17. Just got my automated reminder to renew my membership, which brought up a few quick thoughts... I can't believe it's been a year since I re-upped my membership and became active in the club again. Wow... time really does fly when you start getting older (or so they tell me). It also makes me stop and think of how much help, support, advice and camaraderie this community has provide over the years and how great it has been to get back into the hobby (despite the pitfalls). It really is a special group of folk. Just wanted to give a shout out to all the people who have helped me personally get my tank going this time around as well as put so much thought and effort into keeping the club and forum up and running. So - special cheers to Kim, Holly, Robert, Jeremy, Sirena, Scott, and Greg. Your tireless work for the club and personal advice/assistance are greatly appreciated. You all rock!
  18. Oh man... sorry to hear Daniel. Other than fans and a dehumidifier not sure what to advise. If you have wood flooring, you might want to think about some plywood and weighted buckets to put on top once you have most of the water up. You can leave them on there as things slowly dry - this should limit the damage from any warping or cupping of the boards. Sadly, I know how this feels.
  19. This looks cool Jeremy! Would love to see more some time (free time caveat aside).
  20. Ok... I will take a stab at an explanation/rationale from my perspective. While you could potentially get/create individual controllers for all of those I do think there is a significant advantage to having an all in one device - and that is parameter layering. I often control items/events in my system based on multiple parameters (time, pH, levels, conductance,ORP, etc.) which I find highly useful and would be really difficult to do with a whole bunch of separate controllers. I think a 15% premium (to use your example) is a really small price to pay for that kind of all in one flexibility but I could see if that isn't everyone's cup of tea. Personally, I like to build as much redundancy and logic into my setup as possible and I find a multifunction controller to be a very convenient way to do that. I have not explored a pi setup but, if I had more time and wanted to get the most bang for my buck, I would probably hit up miles () and do some digging into that option. If you have a background in control system interfaces and some programming chops I definitely think you could probably put something pretty sweet together for less than the off the shelf options. For those of us with more limited skill sets (and not a lot of free time), a multi controller can be a good fallback option. Hope that makes some sense.
  21. Haha - I'm not a non-drinker, just a bad drinker. One beer or cider (my personal fav) and I'm out of it. Somehow that part of my Irish genes didn't translate.
  22. My impulse control with regard to reefing is already bad enough - not sure I should combine it with drink... I'm a total lightweight!
  23. Frustrating! That is one of the challenges if no one has it locally - by the time you get it, it may be too late. Hopefully your powder blue and the rest of the gang hangs in there. I wonder if we could convince one of the locals to stock some if it proves effective.
  24. Sorry I missed that one! Isn't there some saying about don't drink and reef? maybe I am getting that mixed up with something....
