  1. OK - found a macbook running 10.5 and was able to install and open the Apogee Connect application so I think the USB will work. You planning to be at any of the PDX stores this weekend? I'm sure you could use another fancy urchin or two! Seahorse is really close to me and C&C isn't too far.
  2. Sounds like a tough old dude. Rough way to go out but at least he had a good run. I can't think of any of mine that lasted that long but then some left in tank tear downs as opposed to more permanent routes.
  3. Thought it might be worth reposting the information I received directly from the Apogee tech support team regarding the operating system requirements for using the USB meter (i.e. installing their software controller). This may help folk decide which of the instruments might work for them. Cherany - not sure if we want to add this to your intro for visibility. Apogee Instruments tech support verified the OS version support I posted above (win XP-10, Mac 10.10 and above) but also offered to help out if someone ran into compatibility issues.
  4. Looking good! Did the GARF make it in there? I recall you were going to keep it but can't tell from the pic.
  5. Haha! That isn't exactly reassuring if the tech guy thinks he might have bricked his machine in the process! Hopefully I can get it working in a less stressful manner.
  6. Thanks for the info Jeremy. if I can't get the MacBook to work I may try to dig up a windows box instead. May ping you if I struggle.
  7. Yikes! And I just took my shoes off? I actually communicated with the Apogee tech support before we got this unit to try and get some specifics on OS version requirements and they were a bit fuzzy on the Mac side so this isn't too surprising. I may be able to get ahold of another laptop tomorrow with a slightly newer version of OSX to test it out. Windows support was pretty broad according to them.
  8. Hi Cherany - I was actually just trying to download and install the software for the USB version of the meter. Turns out the link on the BSR page is out of date so I went to the manufacture's site and got the current version. Of course, after downloading and trying to start it, it errored out on me. Looks like it should start even without the probe connected so sounds like I may have a software glitch. There was some question as to whether it would work on older versions of OSX so that may be a fatal flaw in my case. Do you mind if I look into it a bit tomorrow before deciding? I would like to take advantage of the full spectrum probe if possible. Thanks!
  9. Surprised that took as long as it did! Sadly, I just took a look at my Visa bill ☠️
  10. Couple of things to try... From what I can see, it seems like the noise is mostly due to the return from the skimmer being off the surface of the sump so, if possible, I would try and extend that return line to get it down to or under the sump water level. The other thing is that it looks like you might have the return stopped down (red knob on top of the return line) too far and hence have the skimmer too full of water for it to give you a good foam head. Opening that back up (allowing faster flow back into the sump) make actually make the noise a bit worse until you extend the return pipe but it will help the skimmer work better. That is my best shot based on the video. hope it helps.
  11. BTW - Chewie posted this bit of advice regarding brown jelly in another thread so thought it might be useful/helpful here... Lugols works very well on brown jelly disease. It's old school but it rarely fails me. Coral Rx Works great too but I have had much success with 40drops per gallon lugols dips on Gonis and Euphyllia. I'd say 75% success on bad infections.
  12. Sweet little tank! Welcome back to the hobby - sounds like you were out of commission about the same time frame as I was. Surprising how much has changed (and what hasn't) over that time frame. Good luck with the new build.
  13. You know, in my experience you can never have enough spare power heads! (don't ask why I know this)
  14. I do prefer that interpretation to be honest
  15. I love so many things in this poat - including the title! Could actually use the Kent Marine supplements if no one else needs/wants them.
  16. Sure you can't wedge it in there somewhere? I liked how the two big pieces in your old tank sat just below the surface - was a really distinctive look.
  17. Nice looking tank! I kind of dig the ATI fixture as the size mirrors the tank pretty well but I also get the attraction of the smaller light. Like Kim said, the Reefi might be an interesting option as well. Glad to see things coming together.
  18. Likewise. That was a pretty nice little colony if I remember correctly. The pains of downsizing... GLWS!
  19. Yeah, I know and I did! If I had it in my tank I wouldn't want to let it go either! We may not be done here (slinks off to check on the bank account).
  20. Well, I knew that wouldn't last long - way to burst my bubble Kim! Sounds like you are bidding with some inside info. Guess it isn't really inside info now that you shared it but still...
  21. OK... I will pull a Kim and say $46 so that I can be high bidder for a few minutes on both of these. This is a really nice frag after all.
  22. Well, I will happily go $25 so I can at least temporarily say I have a piece of this
