  1. I could use him - where are you located? Honestly not sure what they are selling for though.
  2. If I remember correctly you can edit titles for your own threads by clicking and holding to get to the edit mode.
  3. Hard to believe this is still available - super sweet. I really like the all white on this particular tank as well. BTW - what model of RO skimmer is that? Might help push someone over the edge on this...
  4. Nice! Is this part of the first brood you were raising?
  5. Yea jellies! I do think they are fascinating and, interestingly, seem to engage people who otherwise were relatively unaware of marine aquaria... go figure.
  6. Hey Randall - can you let me know if the powder brown doesn't work out for some reason - considering adding one back. Thanks!
  7. Lots of great feedback on here. I don't know that I could add much but rather just echo much of the thoughts already expressed. I think Kim's point about avoiding the negativity - between vendors, club members, customers etc. - is really key and seems to be true of our local community. I was out of the hobby for many years but still would show up at one of our local stores (C&C) on a regular basis just to try and stay connected in some way. Despite the fact that the owner and staff knew I didn't have a tank running, they still always took the time to talk to us and share information. 5 years later, I am a customer again. I think that kind of dedication and willingness to invest in long term relationships is probably an important aspect of surviving in the current climate and perhaps speaks to some of the reasons why we seem to still have several successful local shops. Since returning from my reefing hiatus, I have been pleasantly surprised by the level of collaboration and cooperation across the spectrum of the community. I think that the close relationship between the club and vendors (and a very active and engaged leadership group) has likely played a pivotal role in fostering this attitude. Not sure what the story is up north but I could see how it would be easy to have things fall apart if the community became fragmented or disengaged... thankfully, PNWMAS and some very dedicated local store owners seem to have kept that from happening here and I am grateful for that.
  8. Congrats Bret! It's awesome that your wife has been such an active and supportive partner in this. Seems like a lot of such efforts fail due to not having that kind of support at home so it sounds like you are already ahead of the curve on that front. Starting a new business has to be incredibly stressful as well as exciting - great you have someone sharing the excitement. I have to say I really like the work she has done re signage, logo, etc. so not only supportive but obviously talented (might want to keep on her good side)! Looking forward to making it over there (I'm an eastsider) to check it out soon - maybe save the blue goni for me Good luck!
  9. Haha! I know I shouldn't tease about the triggers but it did take me a second... no offense Daniel, you know I love those fish!
  10. Wait a second... I thought you only get one entry At first, I thought that might just be a victim of the triggers but then I realized it was dinner
  11. Glad to hear you were finally able to make some sense of it. Yeah, I also did a pretty systematic scan of the tank trying to take such variations into account. Definitely tricky. This is one reason that the "heat maps" you see displayed for lighting reviews are done in empty tanks!
  12. Yeah - can't believe that is still around. Sorry I wasn't free to help Randall.
  13. That looks like a potentially dangerous cocktail! (for you or the tank... maybe both)
  14. Yes - it was indeed acrylic if Spectra and I are thinking of the same one.
  15. I think this sold - seem to recall someone up north posting about setting it up a while back - but worth a shot. That was a great deal!
  16. The real question is how did they collect the unicorn fur! Gotta love places that inject a bit of light-heartedness and humor into their business processes. Turns something mundane (like a shipping confirmation) into a conversation piece.
  17. Nice! Glad all the forktails are doing well. Good luck deciding which one to keep! I'm happy to rehome any of the non-chosen ones
  18. Sorry to hear about the pipe fish Cherany... that is sad. Amazing how fast that blenny has grown! I remember when you got him - love the pink lips!
  19. Hey Steve, Not sure if you saw this but Bulk Reef Supply has one of those automatic fleece filtration roller devices on sale. Granted, this one is powered (12 volt) so isn't as full proof as the water powered one you referenced. http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/automatic-roller-mat-theiling-1.html
  20. I will be curious as to what they say. Those numbers do seem low given your setup. I would be suspicious of the meter except that it gave me numbers that made perfect sense and fit well within my expected range - granted, I don't have anything to compare them to other than experience. If I get a chance, I will try and compare directly to the other meter so that we can have some independent confirmation. Cherany - maybe you would want to do this experiment with me some time you have both the meters in your possession? Don't want to slow anyone down but might be a helpful bit of information for people. Alternatively, you could try them both on your tank if they ever cross paths again...
  21. This is somewhat surprising. I have been running a salinity (conductance) probe for several months now and it has been rock steady - variance of only about +/- o.ooo2. I plan to use it as you suggest, as a safeguard on the ATO. It is, however, a different brand. I would guess the probes themselves would be very similar so I wonder if it is some kind of shortcoming in the interface. Sorry for the thread-jack Steve but thought this might be of interest to you given that I know you are trying to make your setup as bullet proof as possible for your extended trips.
  22. Hi Kim - maybe you could edit the topic title to include "poll" just to differentiated it from the other thread where people were listing out ideas?
  23. Nice update Cherany - good to see the new additions all doing well. Can't wait to see the tank with QT'd coral added! Really love that anthias but all those fish are great choices... no surprise there. ?
