  1. Are you sure you are ok? Just seems wrong somehow ?
  2. Yeah - this seems to be the best solution. I have been resisting adding one more piece of equipment but have been struggling with the same issues. Tweaked things like pH set point to allow for a higher overall flow rate which helps somewhat but hasn't completely solved the problem.
  3. Those millis are mine... mine I say! ☠️
  4. Yeah - saw that and started reconsidering my drive options! If I'm late, just leave that raffle tank in the parking lot at C&C and I will catch up to you... no, really, I promise
  5. Thanks Scott. From what I can find it ooks to be a model that wouldn't generate much back pressure so that makes sense. Glad it's working well for you!
  6. That is what the label says anyway... pretty substantial sterilizer.
  7. I like this idea as well. Are you thinking a separate raffle for those that can't make it or add them into the mix for the "live" one. I could see arguments both ways but, logistically, it would probably be easier to do them separately. That might also preserve the in the excitement factor for the live one as you know someone in the room is taking it home.
  8. Really liking the twin cube setup! Lets you experiment a bit with different lighting and stocking while maintaining the simplicity of one set of core equipment. Really interested to see what you do with these.
  9. Welcome! You won't regret joining, I am sure. Would love to see some pics if you decide to put up a build/tank thread. I just restarted after about 7 years away and yes, things have definitely changed. LEDs are much more affordable and sophisticated, a lot of corals have become more common and affordable, new fish that I don't ever recall seeing imported before and, of course, new hardware! Good luck with the restart.
  10. Cool - thanks! Good reason not to keep your heater in the same chamber as your skimmer i guess!
  11. Actually it isn't! Sounds like that 8 inches is accurate from what I can tell - I have enough room in the other dimension. How bad is the pump mount crack? Can't believe this was originally rated for 350 gallons given the power consumption and air draw... looking for some reviews.
  12. Thanks for the additional info on the skimmer Randall - just noticed that.
  13. Thanks for the feedback Jeremy. It just seems odd that they will rate them for typical head pressures and yet say they won't work for this application. I am guessing I am missing something here.
  14. Love all these guys... unfortunately, have nothing for them to host right now.
  15. That pretty much covers it...
  16. Congrats! That is a sweet tank! (now I don't have to torture myself with this thread on a daily basis)
  17. Well that is odd. At least the rest of the coral seem to have made it so definitely could be worse. Would be interesting to try another frag of birdsnest at some point to see if it was just a temporary condition (one would hope).
  18. Looking good Vance! Did you ever figure out your STN problem?
  19. Thanks man! I am wondering about driving my injection spray skimmer (which has backpressure like a becket or Venturi) with a DC pump to get some increased efficiency and adjustability but am hesitant due to the disclaimers. Would be nice to know if it works for someone else.
  20. Haha! Well, I guess that is the important part.
  21. Hey Scott - curious about your experience running the DC pump on a skimmer. I have seen manufacturer's info saying they are unsuitable for skimmers such as Beckett and down draft types (presumably due to back pressure issues) but this seems a bit odd since they are given head ratings similar to standard AC pumps. What were you running yours on?
  22. If you get any more info on that skimmer I would be curious - maybe dimensions would help ID it.
  23. Thanks Flash and Taylor. In retrospect, I am not sure when I would realistically be able to make it over there so should probably pass and let someone else have it. My schedule seems to be pretty tight these days...
