  1. I was wondering how the frag tank was going- congrats on getting it up and running. Somehow I missed that this was Randall's 60 gallon shallow reef... one of my favorites. Glad to see it lives again. May it grow healthy frags in abundance! nice plumbing Sirena ?
  2. Ouch. Sorry to see the coral damage Cherany. Hope to figure out who the culprit is and don't have to send the urchin to the isolation tank.
  3. So true... happy Mother's Day all!
  4. Nice! At least Miles should be able to find something in his frag system to share. Fun way to spread some coral joy around - hope it catches on.
  5. Ouch. Sorry to hear Brian - wish I had something to help you out with.
  6. That was my first thought as well! Tough act to follow...
  7. I wonder what the evolutionary advantage is for a fish to look so cute snd squeezable - last I checked they didn't enjoy that so much.
  8. Yep - I recall him saying that the extra .001 made all the difference... which is one thing that makes the hypo salinity treatment tricky if you don't have really accurate measuring equipment. Not much room for error sine 1.007 is apparently fatal. Would make me nervous.
  9. If I had any need for these whatsoever I would buy them just because I love this thread so much. This and the corner of my garage sale thread are two of my all time favs. Sorry that doesn't help you any Richard but at least you know you were able to brighten someone's day. (I needed it).
  10. Nice Jeff - lots of tempting things in there! Hard to decide on a favorite...
  11. Haha! That thing is insane. BTW - I think you forgot a price... either that or it is one of those "if you have to ask" deals.
  12. Haha! Sorry about the name thing... misread your screen name on my phone. Too much multitasking!
  13. C'mon Brian, get them both! Save the world and make your mom proud. Mother's Day is coming up you know!
  14. We should have you write the text for every sale thread on here - pure entertainment.
  15. Very true. I have had pretty good luck with shaft only fixes but those were caught pretty quickly. Safer bet is the whole impeller assembly if you can swing it.
  16. I seem to recall someone who makes some pretty sweet stands - maybe they would volunteer ?
  17. I have a pair of 400 watt metal halides with dual ballast I'm not using. 20k radiums n them last I recall. They are "naked" reflectors that were mounted in a canopy so you would need to figure out a way to mount them but they will definitely keep SPS alive! Let me know.
  18. Looks like you need a new impeller shaft like this... https://www.reefspecialty.com/reef-octopus-otp-pump-ceramic-shaft-1000-2000-3000.html i saw it elsewhere for $6.00 but it was out of stock. There really isn't a quick fix for this that I know of other than a new shaft - not really repairable in my experience.
  19. I like the mod chair in there so you can kick back and take it all in. Really nicely thought out and implemented system. Did you get the roller filter setup yet?
  20. That is technically a correct answer sir! Feeling feisty tonight eh? ? Ugh... I hate autocorrect on my phone. Especially when I don't see it until the next day. Kinda wrecks the whole vibe.
  21. While true about the surfactants in a strict sense, I can attest to the effect of curing epoxy putty on over-foaming of skimmers - done it many times. I do agree that it doesn't seem to be a strong enough effect to cause foaming from falling water alone - at least not with the brands and amounts I have used. FWIW The carbon certainly is a good idea. Seems like there could be multiple contributing factors here which may make a "do over" the most practical approach - as frustrating as that may be.
  22. I had to like this just for the last sentence alone. As for the question... not sure I completely follow the proposed light layout as I don't recall you overall tank dimensions. Are you thinking 9" bulbs running lengthwise between led fixtures on a tank with what overall length? I would question whether you would get a reasonable coverage if the bulbs didn't run at least a significant portion of the overall length but perhaps I'm not understanding what you are proposing... certainly wouldn't be the first time I failed to get it ?
  23. Welcome! It's a very challenging yet rewarding hobby but one that the folks here will be happy to help you with. Lots of great info and experience on these threads so definitely spend some time reading and asking questions. Someone here will likely have an answer (or two, or three ?). Good luck!
  24. More mouths to feed eh Kim? Is this going in the seahorse tank?
  25. Any effect from the epoxy should have cleared by now so if you are still having issues the hand cream seems like the most likely source as it probably isn't as volatile and hence would linger. As ninkylou suggests, you have to be really careful with any kind of hand cream, moisturizer, sun screen etc. to avoid contamination. The good news is that it sounds like you don't have any livestock in the tank yet so it is a good time to discover this!
