  1. Here's an excellent pest ID guide - http://www.lionfishlair.com/hitchhiker.shtml
  2. Whether they are spaghetti worms, or cirratulids (hair worms), some people do not care for them. Various shrimp or small hermit crabs may keep the populations down. Also, a Copperband Butterfly or various wrasses may help.
  3. They are probably Terrebelid worms, commonly called "Spaghetti Worms". They are harmless. Don't worry about them. They show that your tank is becoming established. Don't panic when your live rock looks live! I once had a customer at a LFS I worked at, come in and wanted to know if he should bleach his rock, as what I sold him was full of "bugs". If it seems like you have too many in your tank, there is possibly a buildup of detritus. If you are not using a filter sock, go ahead and use one.
  4. Good article reprinted from 2014 about making your own filter socks! http://www.reef2reef.com/threads/diy-filter-socks.162584/?utm_source=newsletter_1&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=January_18_2016
  5. I hope you had a happy birthday Karen!
  6. I bought a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser at the Dollar Tree for $1 a couple of months ago. If they are still in stock, it's the best deal in town. They will not fall apart, and are non-toxic aquarium use, as far as I know. I do know lots of people use them for aquarium use. They have been recommended for buffing out micro-scratched in acrylic. No need to remove any water either.
  7. Did you get some Chaeto? I still have some left, after throwing out about half of it the other day.
  8. Great pictures in the other thread! Thanks Bert and Kim!
  9. Maybe get some carpooling going. If you can provide a ride, or need one, please post! Thanks Roy...sounds like fun!

  11. Sounds good! We can get an earlier start on it!
  12. I just got the total results back from Kyle at the Oregon Food Bank! PNWMAS collected 337 pounds of food! Great job everyone! Let's make this an annual event for PNWMAS! Kyle Hummel, at OFB sends his thanks, and this message: I hope you as well as everyone at the Pacific Northwest Marine Aquarium Society is as happy as we are to be able to distribute 281 meals to the community because of your guys efforts and willingness to help! It is absolutely wonderful and a perfect example of why we are lucky to be able to work with you. Please let me know if I can be of any support or help in the future. We would love to work with you and PNWMAS again if we are so lucky! I am always here if you need me. Sincerely, Kyle
  13. I did a lot of work with commercial greenhouses years ago, and maintaining an even temperature is difficult. A solar greenhouse seems most practical. I have a manual from the State of Oregon Amity Fish House from back in the 1980s. Study up on heat sinks, Placement of the greenhouse, angles of glass/plastic to the Sun, etc. I know if it is done correctly, very little supplemental heat is needed in the Winter. Do some searches on 'solar greenhouse aquaculture' and 'greenhouse coral propagation'. It may be helpful, and prevent making some mistakes that other people have made.

  19. I recall when Upscales first opened. The store has been going strong for many years now! Travis and Thomas have also been good friends. They have been very encouraging to me when I had to put the hobby on the back burner for a couple of years. Visits to the store kept my interest going, and now I am back into reefkeeping full swing! Thanks guys!
  20. Jeff, what would the cost be for a group buy if everyone went in on a case. If this 24 count? Say 24 people each bought a pack. (or 12 people on a 12 ct. case, etc.)
  21. Did the Hawaiian shrimp survive? They are very hardy.
