  1. That's nice looking puffer! I have to admit that puffers have always been one of my favorite fish!
  2. September 2015 Meeting! It looks like it will be another great PNWMAS Meeting in September! We will be meeting at Bret's (MrBret) shop in Hillsboro, Oregon on Sunday, September 20th at 2:00 PM. Location is at the Business Park located at 2038 NW Aloclek Dr. Suite #223 Hillsboro, Or 97124. Coming up Hwy 26 from Beaverton, take the Cornellius Pass Rd South exit--go about 3 or 4 stop lights and turn Left on Aloclek. Then take the first right into the Cornellius Pass Business Park. The building at your 2 o'clock has big black numbers on it ( 2038 ). Just come down to the end to suite # 223. The sign on it will read: "Merry Maids". The topic of discussion will be Zoanthids! Bret will be hosting a Workshop on propagation of Zoas. He will be giving a demonstration of fragging techniques, and showing the best ways of maintaining these colorful corallimorphs in the home marine aquarium! Bret has quite an extensive collection of various varieties of zoas, in what can only be described as an obsession. Remember: The zoa paradise is cleverly disguised as a Merry Maid business. You will not want to miss this interesting and fun workshop! There will also be Shortribs! Bring along whatever you wish to share for potluck! See you all there! I realize that I had posted this in the other meeting thread... I just want everyone to see it!

  4. Pics are all looking great this morning!
  5. I am so glad to hear you are having a good time at MACNA! Sorry I was unable to find that old data with PNWMAS Business Cards. :( I tore the place up looking for that old hard drive! lol Be sure to say Hi to Kevin Erickson... ask him about a future MACNA event here in the Portland area! I gave him a heads up that you are there. Keep us posted about presentations, vendors, and have a great time! You are our PNWMAS rep!
  6. Nice write up... you should follow up with it! I always have brine already hatched, and have found that I only need to hatch one batch of eggs. I have had my Banggai fry exclusively eating powdered Cobalt Aquatics Pro Breeder Flakes within a few days of the free-swimming stage.
  7. Yesterday, I noticed the swollen jaw of the male Banggai Cardinal, indicating they have spawned again. That, and that he will not be eating for the next 20 days or so! I have a couple of longspine sea urchins this time. Hopefully, this will help the fry from being eaten this time. Feeding them does not seem to present a problem. Capturing them before being eaten does!
  8. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our Admins for the great job they are doing in our forum! We are working with new software, and it takes time becoming familiar with it all. It is the latest update, and I feel it is much superior to previous versions. We have hardly had any down time since it was installed. I remember when we were down so much, that we had to set up a second forum at the Reeftank website. Our PNWMAS board, the Officers, Board of Directors, and Administrators are 100% voluntary in this non-profit organization, and we all enjoy and work very hard at making this the best club possible. If you have and questions or difficulties, please inform me, or one of the board members, and we will get to it as soon as possible! Let's all keep this forum an informative, fun, and positive place as we move forward! We have many plans for the upcoming year, and all need to work on this together! Sincerely, John Manrow PNWMAS President 2015-2016 Term
  9. Scott Fellman video - "Aquascaping's Golden Ratio" http://www.reefthreads.com/?p=1096 For other reef aquascaping ideas, search "golden ratio reef aquariums".
  10. Here's a nice article, including a pic of Steve Weast's old tank. It sure was a beauty! http://fish-etc.com/aquascaping-main/on-the-rocks-how-to-build-a-saltwater-reefscape
  11. Hey Squidapus! Welcome to the PNWMAS Forum and the hobby! I can certainly give you some Xenia from my refugium. They are interesting to watch as they pulsate, but can takeof a tank! We hope you are enjoying the forum, and I am looking forward to meeting you at our next meeting! We should have the location, date, and time posted in the Meetings and Events section very soon.
  12. The Annual PNWMAS Potluck/BBQ was awesome, and had a very good turnout! My special thanks to M.J., Dylan, and the rest of the Rose City Reef Band! We will need to make reservations and acquire an amplified music permit much earlier in the year for next year's event. We really had no intention of waiting this long. All reservations for the Pavilion for amplified music were taken before June. I did not notice and smoke from the fires in the Columbia Gorge where we were, and I can understand if some of you did not attend for that reason! It was smoky out this was just a few days ago. Let us know if any of you have suggestions of locations for next year's Summer Picnic event! In the past we have done our best to have this secured by March or April!
  13. The music is set for 1:00 until 3:00 PM tomorrow... Direct from Portland Oregon - The Rose City Reefer Band!
  14. The band is set for 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM Sunday! This is going to be awesome!
  15. We are are trying to get an approximate idea of how many people will be attending the PNWMAS Picnic on Sunday! Please post if you will be attending and how many in your group! I will be there early... just myself this year.
  16. What size tank is it? Many have tempered glass bottoms, and cannot be drilled. Be sure that you know what you are working with!
  17. I really would like to go, as I have not been to a Marine Conference in a few years, and we would like to be involved with a MACNA in the Portland/Seattle area in 2018. I have not purchased airfare or have a reservation yet. Perhaps next year.

    Internet

As we do not have cable out here near Parrett Mtn. yet, I have Frontier DSL over the phone line. Download Speed this morning is 6.72 Mbps, and upload 0.72 Mbps. Not as fast as some others, such as FIOS available in other areas, but dependable, and I am currently paying around $57 a month, which includes my land-line phone bill.
  19. needing help replacing return pumps on both tanks
  20. People have offered help in the past, and it looks like I will need some now. I need to replace the burned out pump on my 90 gallon coldwater tank (I have bought a used reef dart) , and also the pump is on its was out on my 46 gallon reef. (I have a new Jebao 12DC 3000 to install )I have plumbing supplies and pumps. I may need to buy a few more extra fittings to tee the chiller line into the main return. My back injury has kept me awake most of tonight. I am working on getting someone to move in as a care provider. In the meantime I need some help. All my plants in the other room dried out and died from not going back there for a couple days.. over the last 2 days. If I don't started taking it easier, I fear I will end up needing surgery. Thanks. I have a always tried to be there for people needing help with their tanks. Looks like I'm the one needing help this time!
