  1. Can I get a ride with someone in the morning? I'm really not up to driving 3 hours.
  2. Article from Reef Builders February 16 2016, Jake Adams – There’s no doubt about it, shrooms and corallimorphs are the hottest corals in the aquarium hobby right now. But every time a new group of corals gets targeted for hotness, it entrains with it a whole lot of corals that are pretty high grade, even if they are not exactly what the trend is aiming for. https://reefbuilders.com/2016/02/16/killer-shrooms/?utm_source=Reef+Builders+Newsletter&utm_campaign=961d270dd1-RSS_EMAIL_CAMPAIGN&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_88f38223c1-961d270dd1-423539029

  5. I usually go to Lincoln City, at the "D" River Wayside - Zone 6. I know the park there gets a lot of visitors. To find out where cleanup is most needed, you can check with SOLVE. http://solveoregon.org/spring-oregon-beach-cleanup-faq
  6. Victorian pioneers of the marine aquarium By Tim Wijgerde, Ph.D. When we talk about the history of the marine aquarium, we often praise people such as Lee Chin Eng, Peter Wilkens and Jean Jaubert, who did pioneering work in the 20th century. Their innovations and vision helped give rise to the popular marine aquarium hobby we know today. What few people know, however, is that Victorian England saw an aquarium craze 165 years ago, when much ground-breaking work was done. Some of the pioneers of the marine aquarium from that time are George Johnston, Robert Warington, Anna Thynne, William Lloyd and Philip Henry Gosse. In this article, I will detail their work, including the trials and tribulations, which represents some of the early attempts to maintain a balanced marine aquarium. http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2016/2/aafeature2
  7. The SOLVE Group Coordinator has been contacted, and as in previous Beach Cleanup, find a Zone on the map that you wish to participate in, and meet at the locations on the map to sign waivers, and drop off trash collected. If any large group is to be organize to meet somewhere, this may be done here in the forum!
  8. Now that our March Meeting has been announced, I would like to let everyone know that it's that time again for the SOLVE Annual Oregon Beach Cleanup again! For several years PNWMAS has been letting our presence be known by assisting at the Annual Cleanup every March. This year it will be held on March 26th at various locations along the Coast. I would like to point out that this in an event outside of PNWMAS, and not a PNWMAS Meeting. PNWMAS is not responsible for any injuries, and appropriate waivers will need to be filled out at the SOLVE meeting locations. Carpooling may be organized here in the forum thread! Information about locations and waivers are available here: http://solveoregon.org/what-we-do/solve-spring-oregon-beach-cleanup There are also many other SOLVE Events throughout the year. If you wish to be notified in your e-mail, you may Register at the SOLVE Website. http://solveoregon.org/
  9. You are also welcome to bring any other type of snacks for those of us that sugar may present a problem. I will be bring some other things for sure, as when sweets are the only thing available, it is way too easy to fill up on them, and suffer later!

  11. Excellent deal. I bought some awhile back, and they work well for getting rid of the blue! They are easy to misplace though, and I will need to look for them again, as the ones that I bought were in a very small envelope.

  22. As of March 2017, thread has moved! Please follow to the new one... We have an Apogee Quantum Meter for testing PAR of lighting. We also have a very nice Multimeter for testing electrical current. These meters are available to PNWMAS Club Members only. There is a $50 cash deposit for use of the meters, that will be refunded upon return of the meters. The loan is for 7 days. If the meters are lost or broken, replacement will be necessary at the cost of $379.99 for the PAR Meter, $179.99 for the Muti-Tester. I am currently keeping the meters at my home in Sherwood, Oregon. If you are interested in borrowing either of the meters, please post in this thread, and then we can make arrangements for pickup and return. Please remember to shut off the PAR Meter when not in use, as it does not turn off automatically, and the battery will drain. The 9V Lithium Battery (CR2325) is available through Radio Shack. The Fluke 115 Multi-Tester also need to be turned off manually. Apogee Quantum Meter Users Manual https://s.campbellsci.com/documents/au/manuals/MQ-100_200_300.pdf We now have a Multimeter for testing electrical current, and an Apogee Quantum Meter for testing PAR of lighting. All equipment is available for loan to paid PNWMAS Members. Equipment can be very expensive, and a deposit is asked, which is fully refundable on return of borrowed equipment. All meter are in good working condition at this time. I have downloaded and printed Operating Manuals for both meters.
