  1. Sorry to hear about this. The guy's days are numbered. Looks like you got a clear pic of him
  2. Woody was a very likable guy, and treated people with respect, as long as they showed him respect. I am the same way. I hear it was was possible to get on his bad side, but if that happened, he would definitely le them know. πŸ˜‚ He was usually very soft-spoken and did not tend get emotional. I'm sure he liked you fine. He was a retired research chemist, and knew what he was talking about. We always enjoyed having meetings at his house. Whenever we had a visiting guest speaker, we always paid Woody a visit. I think the PNWMAS will get very busy once again, once we all get a handle on the covid pandemic. Portland was one of the first places to do coral fragging at retail stores and in hobbyist's homes. I am looking forward to attending meetings once again. Aquarium keeping is an obsession that you can end up having for a lifetime. I have enjoyed it for over 50 years now. I believe the meeting held at Steve Weast's home, when Steve Tyree gave his presentation, was around 2003. Lots of good memories.
  3. First reef? You are off to a very good start. It all looks good, and I really like the Red Goniopora. Using a quarantine tank, and dipping your new frags is a good habit to get into. There's a saying in the hobby "Nothing good happens fast". Keep doing what you're doing. Keep asking questions and doing research, and you should be fine.
  4. It's been a while since I have been at a meeting. Have had a few health problems...like getting oldπŸ˜‰. I am currently without a vehicle and there are no bus lines between Sherwood and Newburg. If there is anyone that lives out this way, and can give me a ride to the meeting, please contact me! I hope to see you all there! John Manrow Jmanrow
  5. Here is some early history prior to the beginning of PNWMAS. I am glad to see this thread again. I am also pleased with how the club has been kept going all these years. I will be always very thankful to Woody that he helped keep the club going when there were health problems in my family. It was then known as the Marine Study Group, as a special interest group in the greater Portland Aquarium Society. The MSG had its first meeting in 1996 at the home of Glen Behnke. We had monthly meetings and guest speakers. We had speakers such as Dana Riddle, Stanley Brown, and Ron Shimek. We also worked with Oregon Coast Aquarium to make it possible to have behind the scenes tours. During this time is when I first became friends with Bob Fenner. I was coordinator of the MSG until Woody started having some regular meetings at his place. Just before I was unable to attend meetings, the group had decided that we would break off from GPAS, and become a separate society of its own. I am grateful to Krux, Chief, and everyone else that have worked so hard with PNWMAS over the years. I understand that the covid pandemic has made meetings very difficult in the last couple of years, and I hope to see everyone again at a meeting. I hear there is one in October. I will try to make it, as I do not have a vehicle at this time. I live out in Sherwood, if there's anyone that lives nearby please contact me.Thanks! ☺️
  6. My Gulf Pipefish has given birth to fry, and I am hoping newly hatched brine shrimp will be small enough for them. I have ordered a starter culture of rotifers from Florida aqua farms, but have no idea when it will arrive. Does anyone have a rotifer culture going so I can get a starter? I have cultures of Nannochloropsis (freshwater and Marine) phytoplankton, Daphnia, scuds(freshwater amphipods), and brine shrimp going, but I need something smaller as a first food. I have giving away many dozens of phytoplankton and rotifer starter cultures in the past, but in the last year the price skyrocketed on some live foods and shipping. I would be glad to trade some starter cultures of other live food or phytoplankton or give someone a few dollars for them.
  7. So glad to see the Club has two PAR Meters now! Thank you Smann. Just an important reminder...PAR Meters have been damaged and made unusable in the past by accidently falling in the tank. Please don't set the meter on the edge of the tank! An added safety precaution might be to protect the meter readout in a large ziplock bag, and never hold or set it where it may fall into the water. The actual meter is not waterproof. 😐 The is an awesome instument for the club! Thanks! 😊
  8. You would have enjoyed meeting him, Kim. Bob was like a brother to me. I had know him over 20 years, and had spent many hours on the phone with him. He always talked of wanting to return to visit us all again, which he always enjoyed very much! He had told me just before his passing, of a return visit which was to be very soon! Bob is missed by many all over the world.
  9. Robert (Bob) M. Fenner - August 23, 1952 - May 7, 2020 Today, many of are remembering Bob Fenner on his Birthday. 11. I hate to break the news to everyone, but Bob Fenner has just passed away. From what I hear he died peacefully in his sleep. I just talked to him a couple of days ago and he was telling me that he planned on visiting Oregon soon. He was a good friend to many of us.
  12. Sorry, I was not able to make it today. I've been. in Providence, Newberg this week. Had some heart trouble, but no damage resulted. I have a Pulmonary Embolism (blood clot in lungs). I will be headed home today. Going to get some help with water changes. I hope everyone is having a great time! Cheers!

  18. I had my refugium filled with Codium. I traded it all to "All Things Aquarium", (formally Premium Aquarium in Wilsonville). You should be able to purchase some there. Codium makes a great hitching post for seahorses! http://www.pnwmas.org/forums/forum/126-all-things-aquariums/ https://www.facebook.com/allthingsaquariums/
