  1. SaltyUnderground has a very detailed write-up about berghia nudibranchs. You should read it before deciding if that's the route you want to take: https://saltyunderground.com/category/berghia-nudibranch-the-natural-choice-for-aiptasia-control
  2. I'm not 100% certain, but I believe the larger models (625, 750) use plywood cabinets. Doesn't diminish the fact that it's probably best to have a metal frame.
  3. Yes, that shows up fine. I downloaded the original image from its direct URL and tried opening it in a variety of programs, but they say it’s not a valid jpg file format. This is just another reminder that I made the right decision to retire from doing IT support. 😊
  4. It didn't show up for me on my iPhone, on Tapatalk, or on my MacBook running Safari. But then when I tried Chrome it worked. Weird.
  5. For months there have been reports and debates online about Reefer XXL 750 tank failures. Some of the reports were proven to be fraudulent, but some seemed legit. Yesterday Red Sea finally admitted there’s a problem with the stand design allowing it to sag in the middle which leads to a seam rupture on the tank. This post at R2R shows screen captures of Red Sea’s statement from their official Facebook group: https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/red-sea-reefer-750xxl-acknowledged-as-defective-design.651834/ If you have a Reefer XXL 750, you should probably inspect it and contact Red Sea to get the retrofit support column. I’m hoping none of you ever experience a tank failure, and hope this post will help prevent one.
  6. Welcome to PNWMAS! I'm tagging @Flashy Fins, our Tanks for Teachers coordinator who can probably get you started.
  7. Please note they posted about 4 posts prior to your comment, so likely a duplicate.
  8. All Tridents sold by authorized retailers are at the list $599 price, but most are still out of stock and have waiting lists. Occasionally on the Neptune Facebook group I've seen people posting that particular shops have some in stock, and then they're gone within 15 minutes. Only people that are selling them on eBay or other non-authorized "dealers" are jacking the prices up.
  9. Apex is required. Any generation of Apex is compatible.
  10. After nearly 5 months now with my Trident, I still love it! The controlled dosing is doing a great job keeping things stable. Here are my target levels: Alk = 8.20 dKH Cal = 420 ppm Mag = 1350 ppm Here are my latest measurements:
  11. Sorry for bringing up a morbid subject, but recent events have forced this into my thought process. Last week my wife's mother passed away, and we are now sorting through her estate to figure everything out. As a result, we decided for the first time to consult an estate planner so when we eventually pass, our loved ones aren't faced with a complex jigsaw puzzle of finding and sifting through our assets and finalizing our affairs. Have any of you ever considered what you would wish to do with your aquarium after your death? It's not something you can just bequeath to a loved one and assume they will care for it and cherish it the way you do. Aside from the financial investment in your aquarium, there is the ethical consideration of ensuring the delicate life forms in your tank are cared for in your absence. Is there someone in your immediate family that would want your tank and would care for your reef inhabitants? So this leaves me with a dilemma. Nobody in my immediate family lives within 2000 of my home, and even my wife probably would not want the responsibility of caring for an SPS-dominant reef aquarium and all the automated aquarium technology I have set up. I'm starting to think it would make sense to identify one or more beneficiaries here on PNWMAS to be designated caretakers for my tank. It's probably a bit too much to bequeath to a TFT classroom. Again, sorry for bringing up something that's not pleasant to think about or talk about. But it's an inevitability. Have any of you ever thought about this?
  12. Wow, sounds very frustrating. Sorry to hear. I've been battling briopsys and bubble algae for months and have considered using Vibrant, but have avoided it because of the risk of dinos. When I hear stories like yours it makes me think my strategy of manual removal and lowering nutrients is probably the safer approach.
  13. While I don't have a garage full of stuff because I haven't been in the hobby long enough, I'm already working out my strategy to convince my wife to do a huge addition on our house (under the guise of having an entertainment/bar/game room with a bigger deck) for a way to add a fish room and big peninsula tank. As we work with our financial advisor, there's no scenario where this pays off in the long run, and of course he shows us a graph proving it's a bad financial decision. He's no help at all...
  14. I use BRS 2-part at standard strength with my dosing lines about 2” above the waterline and never have problems with clogging.
  15. Before I left yesterday, I set up some spare webcams to help me keep an eye on everything. My usual tank sitter/dog sitter wasn’t available so I had to go fully unattended. The cameras and my Apex help relieve the anxiety I get from worrying about my tank when I’m away.
  16. I should buy it to have a spare since I have spares of all my other Apex gear. 🤣
  17. Welcome! I also have a Reefer XL 425. We’ll have to compare notes!
  18. Happy birthday @badxgillen! Thanks for your dedication to the group, and I hope you're back on your feet soon.
  19. Thanks to @chewie I'm all prepared for my trip! BRS sent a shipping confirmation today, so I should get my refill pack next week after I return.
  20. Thanks Scott, but that won't be necessary. I spoke with BRS today and they offered to send a reagent refill next day air as soon as they get it back in stock. Unless they get it in tomorrow I doubt it will arrive in time to help me.
