New coral parasite discovered - 10% of tanks I sampled had it

I just did a Google Maps search on Bend aquariums, and see there's a store there called Aquatopia of Bend. I'll add them to our Member Map. Maybe one of us should drop off a few PNWMAS business cards there to spread the word in Central Oregon about our club.

Thanks! For the record, I published my Apex tutorial series here on PNWMAS several weeks before it got picked up by Reef2Reef. You all got to binge read it daily for a week, but the R2R readers had to wait weekly for each new topic over an 8-week period. You're welcome! 🤓

Wow, that's interesting. Thanks for keeping us in the loop, and for taking the time to revisit your data. This shows how valuable your database is and will become as more discoveries are made! -
Terence from Neptune Systems will be interviewing me tomorrow afternoon at 3:30pm in the next installment of Neptune’s #ControlFreakWednesday live stream videos, available on Facebook and YouTube. I’ll be going over my system and describing the various Apex modules and automation I have set up, and my Apex programming tutorial article series. Check it out and submit questions live if you can, or you can watch the recording later. https://www.youtube.com/user/NeptuneSystemsVideo/videos This should be fun!

Anyone know what these black bubbles are?
SuncrestReef replied to sourmashpdx's topic in General Discussion
I have six emerald crabs — some male, some female, different sizes, purchased from 3 different stores — but they haven’t touched my bubble algae. -

Bubble algae is tough. I have tried manual removal, but you have to be careful not to pop the bubbles otherwise they will further spread in your tank. I added several emerald crabs, but they only seem to eat the bubbles occasionally. I have reduced nitrates and phosphates, but the bubbles continue to spread. I have heard a lot of people reporting success using Vibrant to get rid of bubble algae, but I've been hesitant to try it out of concern for my corals since I've heard mixed reviews on coral safety. I might need to try Vibrant soon because the bubbles are continuing to spread in my tank. I even have a snail crawling around covered in bubble algae. 😕 -

Looks like bubble algae. What color is it under white lights? -
That was pretty quick. Nice job.

Whenever my wife's Subaru is due for service, I always volunteer to take it to Wilsonville Subaru so I can then walk down the street to All Things Aquarium. It's a great excuse to go, and my wife can't complain when I come home with new frags because I took care of the car for her!

Anyone have a spare neptune ATO pump?
SuncrestReef replied to Lazyreefer's topic in General Discussion
I have a new (unused) v1 PMUP that I've kept on hand as a spare. I'd sell it at cost, $39. I also have a used v1 PMUP. $20. I'm in Beaverton. -
I used Flux RX. https://www.amazon.com/Blue-Vet-Flux-Rx-2000/dp/B07FTXFPMR

I have a large (10”) bubble tip anemone and it didn’t react at all to the fluconazole.
-
Have you tried fluconazole? I was losing the battle with bryopsis and I used Flux RX and it cleared it up within 1 week. Supposedly it can also work on green hair algae. It didn't harm anything else in my tank. See https://www.marinedepot.com/video/watch/fluconazole-for-green-hair-algae-bryopsis-how-to-treat-your-tank-with-flux-rx-from-blue-life-usa

I use a Nikon D610 camera with a Nikkor 200mm f/4 macro lens. The spider was in direct sunlight, though the first photo the sun was behind it so I used a handheld mirror to reflect the sunlight onto its underside.

Your aquariums had different microbiomes. Here is how they differed.

Very cool. Thanks! I'll show this to my wife since she's the PhD biologist in the family. I'm just the IT guy. 🤓🤣 -
@sroberts I tried to send you a PM, but apparently your inbox is full. You might want to purge some old messages.

Yes, I’m fully aware of Interceptor as an effective treatment and the harm to shrimp & crabs. Because I’d need to tear apart my whole aquascape to get to my pistol shrimp, I decided long ago to just live with the red bugs. My corals have been doing fine with them for almost a year now, so I’m not concerned. Just annoyed at them photo bombing my macro shots.
