Someone needs to use this technology to produce better magnets for use in aquariums, whether for powerheads, feeding clips, glass cleaners, or anything else that adheres with magnets. Watch this video:

I dose BRS 2-part, which is actually 3 different components: soda ash for alkalinity, calcium chloride, and magnesium chloride. These come in powder form you mix with RO/DI water. To raise the alkalinity you just add additional soda ash to the tank. Use the BRS calculator to enter your current parameters, tank volume, and desired parameters. They are both new, from my @CuttleFishandCoral Mystery Box last month. Though I already have a larger colony of the reddish one with green tips.

My small refugium is overgrown with chaeto and lots of live pods. I could probably get rid of several softball-sized clumps of chaeto. I'm in southwest Beaverton. PM if interested.

I finally picked up a 10lb bag of citric acid, but there are no directions on the bag. @pdxmonkeyboy what ratio of citric acid to water do you use to mix it?

@Willapa I'm seeing the same result you described. If the BRS controller is in charge of maintaining the temp, even at the lowest range possible, the temperature swing is way bigger than I had with the Apex controlling the heaters directly. Here's the temp graph from my mixing station after putting the BRS controller in place yesterday: I think I'll reconfigure it to be a safeguard but rely on the Apex for primary control.

My BRS controller finally arrived. I’m testing it out on my mixing station before moving it to my sump. I just want to experiment a little with how it behaves and interacts with my Apex programming without any risk of harming my tank.

In the past I would go out of my way to find an automated solution. But now that I'm retired, I need to find things to occupy my time, so data entry into Excel fills that need. 🤣

Me too. Other threads still show photos, so it doesn't seem to be a problem with out Amazon payment. Try uploading it again.

You'll be disappointed to know that my "system" for graphing this data is just manual entry into Excel. I haven't found any easy way to automate it. I know there's some method to pull XML data from the Apex, but I've never managed to figure it out.

I've been tracking my ORP for over a year. (why? because I'm a data nerd. 🤓) Mine fluctuates by about 20-30 daily, and over time I see upwards trends when my tank is cleaner and downward trends when things are dirtier or when something dies. When I do larger water changes, it spikes up dramatically. In this graph, the blue line is the daily high and low readings. The purple line is the daily average, and the black line is an overall trendline. The low point in Dec 2018 was when my tank suffered from brown jelly syndrome and there was a lot of dead tissue. The big spike on Dec 6, 2019 was when I traded my "seasoned" Marine Pure block with @obrien.david.j's new block and did a water change.

As I look back over the past year, I'm pretty pleased with how things have progressed with my reef tank and my confidence in keeping it healthy and thriving. One year ago on this date I had the flu, my tank was suffering from brown jelly syndrome, and I was in a panic over losing many corals. Since that time I've learned a lot, taken careful steps, and exercised patience to let the tank recover. I've also made a lot of new friends here in our local reefing community and established a pretty good reputation internationally for helping Apex users. Overall it's been a good year, and I'm really looking forward to what the next year will bring. Happy New Year to all my PNWMAS friends!

Perhaps the people who can see the photos have their own Google accounts providing access, but the rest of us without Google accounts are blocked.

The Sept 9 photos were inserted in the PNWMAS forum which is hosted by Amazon Web Services. The latest photos that don’t show up are links to Google user content. @kilmca will need to check the permissions on those photos in Google to ensure they’re accessible to the public.
