I have two different stag colonies, blue with blue polyps and blue with half green/half blue polyps. The two colonies are pretty similar and since I took the half green polyp'd frags off the underside the green isn't showing. I guess it's going to be a surprise! They're both lovely and fast growing though. They were both growing in to colonies near them so I got the bone cutters out and accidentally made more than I meant to. Pest free. C'est la vie. Practice makes perfect though and I'm sure the next tank is going to be even more impressive.

I've also used two other products for lengths of time in the past. I started with Aquavitro Fuel which works great but has to be refridgerated after opening and is kind of hard to source. It's also expensive. I then used Acropower for the last year and a half on my 75g and that was much easier. It still worked great and didn't need to be cold so it could be dosed. Though the RS A+B also has to be in the fridge, I've had the best results with it. That's also a carbohydrate product involved that IIRC Fuel also included. I've tried just not running aminos in the past and been displeased with the results.

I use the Red Sea Coral Nutrition A+B. One of them is aminos.

There's a lot to tackle here and I'm interested to see how it goes. One small thing I can help with perhaps is your venting/dosing idea. I tried venting to increase pH on my last tank and it didn't do much. I took up dosing soda ash as my alkalinity component in the 2-part I use which has a high pH. It did a much better job of keeping it high and is just part of my chemistry dosing. It's a grand plan! Any wrinkles that could be smoothed out ahead of time will save you a lot of work later. It's always nice to see such enthusiasm for a new system!

I'm interested to see that shelf unit constructed! Seems pretty comprehensive. I didn't have a lot of luck breeding brine shrimp myself but had no clue what I was doing either.

Well, I called them and they wanted me to mail back both defective lights. At least they're covering shipping and expediting the return. Pretty easy customer service but I am not looking forward to what happens after 12 months...
