  1. Ugh. I really need to get some starter stomatellas from someone one of these days.
  2. Bert indeed had a ton of very useful advice for me during my move.
  3. What you really want are the jumbo Trochus'. I've had two for years now and they're bigger than any turbo I've had. They are very gentle.
  4. After driving to Santa Cruz and back we just couldn't do the drive. I'm glad everyone had a good time!
  5. Www.reefcleaners.org has zebras in stock right now.
  6. Hey just wanted to say that your light schedule is working wonders in my tank! GLWS!
  7. Oh I'm familiar with eurohinges. This appears to be a failure of one of the pivotpoints on the hinge. Not looking good honestly.
  8. I went looking for a hot dog fish and this thing was over a foot long and as thick as my forearm. They had it in a ~30-40g tank. What a nasty creature. I'm glad to have learned about them! Thanks for the suggestion. I also now know how to tell the difference between Sardines and Anchovies! Pretty cool stuff.
  9. It's the hinge itself. It's the piece that bridges the door mount and the stand mount. The little 1" piece. It seems like the part that rotates closer to the stand mount has lost tension when I compare it's function to the other hinges. There seems to be extra slack in this hinge. I guess that settles that. I wonder how that managed to happen while we were gone. 😩
  10. I came home to one of my doors hanging slack and no amount of fiddling seems to be lining this door back up. I'm not sure that it should be doing this. Any tips? 20190621_080217.mp4
  11. I would have but I feared the answer would be 'better than yours!' Their sps tank was pretty impressive.
  12. I learned to loathe AWS billing during school. I empathize. I always thought sea lettuce was a good thing.
  13. Haha very aptly put... Looks Beautiful Rudy!
  14. Ta-daaaaa! Vicky took a bunch too. There's still some more coming when we get back home. We took the behind the scenes tour and it was so good. They showed us a whiteboard back by their kitchen with a Mater (Cars) saying 'I love the MBA!' It was drawn by one of the Pixar crew when they were there researching for Finding Dory and they never erased it. I totally forgot to take a picture of that though. We also met Hank. He is the longest employed person in the facility and Pixar honored him by naming the octopus from the movie after him. That last bad quality picture is a dying Giant Pacific Octopus that laid eggs. She just sat there, sadly caressing them. It was a breathtaking sight. The reef area was funny. I stumped a bunch of volunteers when I asked what kind of lights they used. They had to radio in to ask and then couldn't pronounce 'metal halide'. I id'd a bunch of stuff for them. It made me feel like a reef wizard and I thought of all of you. I told them about our club and that I was one of the lesser-accomplished and younger members. They had no idea people grew coral for a hobby. It was a funny conversation. Check it off the bucket list! We will be back for sure.
  15. Here you go @Krux. Apologies about any potato-quality media. Behold! A truly amazing thing to witness. Godspeed momma cephalopod.
  16. It's always worked great for me! Haven't seen a glass anemone in years thanks to this product.
  17. Your light mount looks awesome Daniel! Apologies for the derail.
  18. We had to eradicate a bunch of hobo spiders in our new house. I got the big red bag of powdered spider killer and sprinkled it on the perimeter of the entire property a couple times in the spring. That helped a lot but the hobo's were still in the house The trick inside is sticky traps placed parallel along walls they travel. I put 5-10 of these traps around the garage walls because that's where they were living mainly. It took a couple months but they're all gone and haven't come back. Seriously be careful with these. I had a friend in college that I just graduated with that lost his dad to a hobo bite last year.
  19. Haha I was thinking the shrimp is probably stoked to have all that fresh substrate to burrow in. They do seem to delight in digging the most inconvenient tunnels after all!
  20. I'm glad to hear it, especially from you Sid! My wife and I have our three little kids with us but we also have grandma down here to take them while we go. We were hoping for the tour but we'll make sure we do now.
  21. Any suggestions for our first trip there? You should start a thread about that job for those of us that don't know. I'd love to hear more.
  22. This is the first time I've left the peninsula alone for any length of time but we needed to get out of town after my graduation. Some surfing tonight should hit the spot. We're going to the Monteray Bay aquarium tomorrow and I'm very excited about the open sea exhibit. Maybe we'll run in to Sigourney Weaver... 🤣 I'll post aquarium pictures here tomorrow. In all seriousness this aquarium had been on my list of things to do for many years. 😎
