  1. His family lives in Hawaii now. His dad still works in some kind of preservation/conservation role, but I'm not exactly sure of the details.
  2. Hey man, thanks for sharing. What are we supposed to do about the lithium levels?
  3. Here's a video about Swains Island. SWAINS ISLAND - One of the Last Jewels of the Pla…:
  4. Unfortunately not. His hobby and passion is cooking. Sometimes you visit a friend's house and enjoy his or her tanks and sometimes you go to a friend's house for an amazing meal
  5. My friend grew up in Samoa. He got a chance to check out my reef and he was so stoked because he grew up with all these things. It was cool because he had local names for the various fish and corals. This is an old shirt from his dad. His dad worked on this team. Even cooler, his family owns Swains Island. It's a small atoll in the ocean near Samoa. Yeah...they literally own an island. Crazy, right? It's been in the Jennings family for generations. Anyway, just thought I'd share (vicariously) the experience of my buddy. It's awesome to hear him describe all the animals in the ocean.
  6. Doesn't look like it worked. Are you using a photo storing program like photo bucket? If so, upload pictures and copy the "Direct link." In your thread, click the "A" which should open some options. Click the little picture image. That should allow you to post the link.
  7. Haha, cable boxes don't need stands. Now tanks on the other hand....
  8. I won the raffle for the Ecotech at Doug's house last May. I had to buy the additional one since I was upgrading the setup. I also won the Ocean Revive LED from our last meeting. :) Well, to be honest, the clear front came with the setup. But I think you are essentially correct. The clear front is all about being able to show off the system components. Some setups work to hide them while others are set up to promote them. Personally, I really like seeing the total package working. If it becomes a distraction I may just cover it up. I am already considering a certain kind of cover. I think I want to run my refugium/macro light on an alternating cycle to help stabilize pH. However, I don't want my living room lit up throughout the middle of the night. To keep the best of both worlds, I think I might install a curtain rack above the door. Then I can hang two curtains on the rack and be able to pull them open and closed. Something like this:
  9. I can't recall if this feature was available on this forum or another, but I love the ability to hover the cursor over a thread and have a box pop up that gives me the first part of the message. That way I can have a better idea on the thread without having to actually load it. Can this be done?
  10. Currently, I have a 40b reef tank. It is an SPS/LPS mix, heavy on the Acans and Acros. It has been running since February. Well, the tank has reached its limit with space so it is time to upgrade. I am switching to a 75 gallon with a custom sump (maybe 15 gallons or so). I acquired this 75 gallon setup from Micah several months ago and I am just now finally getting around to setting it up. It is all plumbed and ready to go now, but it's currently sitting in a spare bedroom. Hopefully this weekend I will bring it out to the living room and make the switch. I just need to make sure the switch can happen with enough time to get to Corvallis for the Beav's game. Here's the current setup in all its glory (all the glory the Android phone can provide): Equipment: Dual Ecotech Radion Gen 3 (1 regular and 1 pro) 75 Gallon with built in overflow (running Herbie-style method) Marine Magic triple doser currently dosing Randy's two part. I am using Prestone Driveway Heat for calcium and baking soda for alkalinity. Mag 18 Return pump with loc lines 2x1350 GPH circulation pumps Off-brand skimmer Custom sump Stand with acrylic see-through front Fish: Pair of clowns Blue Damsel Fish Pink Spotted Watchman Goby Fire Fish (currently in QT awaiting new tank) Green Canary Blenny (currently in QT awaiting new tank) I built some screen covers with supplies from home depot. They cost 28 bucks total and I now have enough netting to last a lifetime. Anyone want some? My more beautiful, better half, doing the tedious work: Finished product: Well I guess that's about it for now. Hopefully I can update this later in the week after the switch is made. That will be the real test. If I'm lucky, I'll get to be assisted by the great Badxgillen. I'll be confident then.
  11. We haven't confirmed details yet. Unfortunately our scheduling has not yet worked with our guest speaker's. We are still trying to figure things out. I will post an announcement as soon as we know more/any details.
  12. 4 side viewing would be sick! I'm sure it would be tough to scape tough. I've seen a legit one where the two overflows were in the middle and hidden within the live rock. Looked super sleek.
  13. I used to have that tank. Sold it off earlier this year. I bought it at Wet Pets.
  14. Fyi, Tapatalk is always the easiest way to navigate on phones. Update or not.
  15. Yeah, I feel ya. However, it is one click away. Is one click asking too much? I'm sure if the majority think so, we can adjust it. However, the idea is that we, as a club, are more than just the forum. We are a club. Therefore, the homepage provides an opportunity to share club information. The forum is a part of the club and thus it is a part of the website. It is only a click away Like I said though, Micah would likely change that if everyone wanted it that way.
  16. I could be wrong, but the new posts button will work exactly the same. Currently, it is only showing new posts since the update. The old threads are still there, but since they haven't had a post since the update, they aren't on the new posts list.
  17. Logos change over time. Check out my avatar, that hasn't been the Beav's logo for a while because they have changed it a couple times. Organizations evolve over time and a change in logos is one way to bring a fresh perspective.
  18. Isn't someone selling one in the classifieds right now?
  19. Albany, 97322: Varies seasonally between 15-35.
  20. This is black stuff, but not what everyone else seems to use. It is bigger than ¼ inch and thinner than typical stuff. You could have as much as you need for free.
  21. I wouldn't really feel comfortable suggesting a number. Like I said, I could be totally wrong, it just seems like there are lots of systems that become available around here.
