  1. But planted tanks are so much cooler!!
  2. Thanks for all the responses. It looks like people are pretty much divided. I don't think one style is definitively better, but I do like the aspect of the trickle because it raises the water level in the overflow and makes it silent back there. Jeramy, I am not concerned with noise. I have it running silent. Neither method makes any noise, but I was just wondering people's preferences. Thanks a lot for the input. I think this is your old tank. I got it from Micah.
  3. Great to have you on here. It's great that you have an interest to bring a marine environment into your classroom. Our Tank For Teachers program is currently undergoing some developments and being better refined to promote the most successful program. I will make sure you receive the introductory information and you can decide if the program is something you'd be interested in taking part in.
  4. Yeah, I was going to ask your opinion on this Robert. We'll have to talk about this on Sunday.
  5. That was a really great video. I can't believe I just invested thirty minutes of my day to one YouTube video...it was worth it though.
  6. Emergency drain: do you run it completely dry or go with the slight trickle?
  7. Dang, lab grade probes for thirty bucks! This certainly looks like good priced equipment. We'll have to see how it performs.
  8. It depends on what you selected as your product. If you select solution, then yes. You can also calculate for dry dosage. You this calculator: http://reef.diesyst.com/chemcalc/chemcalc.html
  9. Since you are filing with your home owner's anyway, I would just have them pay for the tank. Then your insurance will go after Marineland if there is any grounds for it.
  10. Love the fuge area. Looks like a planted tank.
  11. That should be the real name of them. More catchy.
  12. I don't know if others have had this problem, but my skimmer goes crazy when I put my hands in the tank. Once it's dialed in, if I put my hands in the tank for more than a couple minutes, the skimmer will immediately start wet skimming and overflowing. I was having problems getting my skimmer tuned and I finally realized it was directly correlated to my hands in the tank. Whenever I do extensive stuff in my tank I have to turn the skimmer way low and let it skim like that for a couple hours. Then I can turn it back to it's normal spot.
  13. Anybody down for visiting and/or hosting a tank tour in the area? Please comment whether you would be willing to attend and also if you want to host. I figure we'll do a couple in Albany and a couple in Corvallis. Four tanks shouldn't be too bad time wise, but I'm up for suggestions. Let me know and then we can start working on times if there is interest. I'm willing to host!
  14. Me too! Off queen and Waverly. Badxgillen and Catfish are good dudes. Don't pass up an opportunity to do business with Gillen!
  15. You know tft is going to start using only 20 and 40b tanks...
  16. Animal House currently has a Pistol Shrimp that is like 4 inches. It's the biggest one I've seen.
  17. Hey thanks for that post. I actually have a Reef Fanatic pH controller, but no probe. I don't even know if anyone sells the RF probes anymore.
