  1. While we all have opinions about each of the retailers we deal with, it is always important to be careful about undue criticism. Some individuals may have negative experiences with retailers and they should be allowed to candidly state that. However, PNWMAS does not stand for or tolerate subjecting our sponsors to public bashing. I cannot attest to the reasoning behind Kevin's post apart from the fact that he honestly thought he was helping a member. However, as the Public Relations officer, I apologize for the post and wish that each of you continue to build up this forum. This is a place where information is shared, hobbyists are born and nourished, and local businesses help the hobby as we help them. Happy Thanksgiving!! And thank you all.
  2. Hey all. If you have a sump that fills up where your skimmer is at when the power goes out, I could use your insight. My sump is set in the skimmer and when the power goes out, the sump obviously fills up a good bit....no problem there because the skimmer is also off. However, when the system turns back on, the sump level does not drop down quick enough to not have the skimmer start overflowing. It takes about 2 or so minutes for the overflow to fill back up to normal running levels. While the sump is slightly overfilled and the skimmer is running, it will overflow until the sump is brought back down to its regular levels. Is this just the nature of the beast? I realize it would only happen during a power outage when I am away because I can manually keep the skimmer off if I'm there, but I am curious how everyone else deals with this.
  3. The light isn't the worst thing in the world. Maybe I'm paranoid, but I feel like my fish and corals want to have some complete darkness at night The light spills into the bedroom though when the door is open so that's the real motivation from blocking it. I like the clear setup during the day though so I can waste hours staring at the system instead of looking for a job. That's why I'll be able to pull back the curtains. And no sir....nothing I need to tell you. No kids, yet. (yahoo) You'll know that day comes when I post the "WTS: Reef tank" thread.
  4. Great to hear that! I look forward to learning about your system. Did your tank rebound?
  5. That fixture is more than enough, maybe too much.
  6. Yeah, you're not going to want to use that much light with freshwater. In order to utilize high light, which for planted tanks is around 50 par on the substrate, you'll need to inject co2 or else you'll be battling algae relentlessly. For cichlids only, your par will be much lower since you won't be injecting co2.
  7. Took forever to find it, but I voted. Maybe post a link? Or maybe I'm just inept.
  8. Yeah on the 6' fixtures, they offset 48" bulbs so that the total length is 6 feet with 2 feet of overlap. You could definitely use two quad units. That would give you 4 bulbs on each of the outside 2 foot sections and 8 bulbs in the middle two feet. Which LEDs did you try?
  9. I don't have them. I've had them shipped to Kevin's house. Maybe he can put the pics up, but maybe he will want to be all secretive-like(censored)(censored)
  10. Haha, there is nothing in the world quite like Google Images.
  11. Cool, thanks a lot. Yeah vinegar is definitely much more than vodka. It's because of the amount of ethanol, I think. I think I remember reading that vinegar is dosed at like ten times the ratio of vodka...i can't really remember though. I'll look to boost the vodka a bit.
  12. Wow! That is a lot more vodka than I thought people dosed. 40ml in the 75, huh? I guess it ultimately depends on the feeding and livestock amount, but dang that's a lot more than I thought. This is the article I am referring to. This seems to be the article that keeps popping up whenever someone asks how much vodka to dose. If there is a more realistic starting schedule, I'd definitely be down to find out. Thanks for the info.
  13. Ordered the Tunze 3155 ATO unit. So pumped for this accessory. I also ordered Acro Power to see if there is any positive effect on coloration. I will keep this thread updated for sure with any potential results.
  14. Those are sweet pictures! Everyday I'm reminded how lame it is for not having a legit camera :(
  15. I worked in a bakery for two and half years Although I was just the assistant. The actual pastry chef has since moved to the east coast or I would shoot you her info. She made the cake for my wedding. 5 separate tiers...for free!!
  16. Hey Blue Z, when you mentioned that AcroPower didn't have the same impact, did you mean that the colors didn't keep improving or that after a while, the coral reverted back to how they were before you used it? Cool, thanks Clark. I went ahead and purchased acropower based on the online reviews. Apparently it has gotten extremely positive feed back. Couple that with the fact that an 11 dollar bottle can last me four months if dosed accordingly, and I was sold.
  17. Been there My male always bites my wedding ring. Even when I know it's coming, I can't help but jerk a little.
  18. Dang! That's crazy! Coral are so important in this world.
  19. I like to think that my clowns biting me is them just giving my hand kisses
