  1. anyone have one of those Rubbermaid stock tank that I can borrow for a month or so? I need something to hold corals temporarily and then once the corals are gone i'll use it to start cycling rock. picture below isn't mine...I just borrowed it from somewhere online. http:// Thanks!
  2. no sps, lps for me. i've had success with montis in the past so i'll do those too but that's about it.
  3. nope just tearing it down to make some improvements and get rid of the soft corals and then will be setting it back up.
  4. thanks! and if you think the prices are too high make me an offer. I need this stuff gone. yeah still in Oregon city and in the same house. i'll mark those items as pending. note the blue ridge coral is not blue...it's actually brown when alive. the skeleton is blue(see pic below) but when the coral is alive it's actually brown. just google blue ridge coral and you'll see what I mean. I know not as nice as the name makes it sound but its growth pattern is nice, IMO. it's really easy to care for too since it's actually a softy from what I've read.

  6. 400 gallon, 10' long x 32" wide x 24' tall. Bill, sorry again about not letting you have that melanurus wrasse. I just can't bring myself to let it go since I found out it will eat out of my daughters hand.
  7. well it's been a while since I've posted anything on here. I'm in the process of emptying out the tank to tear it down and make some improvements and set it back up. we had 2 kids but now they are 6 and 3 so I'm finding more time for the tank. It was full of softies but now it's time to get back to LPS. it's not really this blue but the camera on my phone thinks it is. the corals in the tank are the ones I need to get rid of still so if anyone wants some softies let me know. i'll make you a great deal. the rest of the live rock I'm cooking. http://2015-11-16_06-13-07 by kilmca, on Flickr
  8. Thanks for the offer but I'm not sure when I might tackle this project. At the earliest I might start this weekend but we'll see. yeah, that coral took over. this is a perfect example of be careful what you put in your tank.
  9. Well it's been a while since I've posted on any forum on PNWMAS but that's cause kids take your time. Since the kids are now a little older I have more time to spend on the tank so I'm going to tear down the tank and get rid of all the softies I have. Going back to LPS and maybe SPS. Here is a video of the current tank. Moving from right to left in the tank here is a list of corals for sale. Ruffled ridge coral - lots of frags and maybe some small colonies, $10 each. Toadstool on right(about 10" square) - $50 10" diameter mushroom in the center/right - $50 Toadstool on far left at end of video (about 16" fully open) - $100 All prices are asking price so don't be aftraid to make an offer. There are lots of mushrooms in there of various colors, quite a few tonga green mushrooms and hairy mushroom but the problem is there is this coral in the tank that is covering everything and I'm not going to sell or give it away cause it takes over. It's kind of like blue clove but it's brown/red. This is the main reason I'm tearing the tank down and will be setting it back up with completely dry rock and sand. http://0823151617a by kilmca, on Flickr

    My new addition!

yeah the one i had ate feather dusters and aptasia. i got the fish specifically to eat the aptasia. this was 8 or so years ago when i started keeping corals and didn't know aptasia were bad.

    My new addition!

very nice fish. glad you got one that is eating, that's the biggest challenge. i had one for a few years with a clam, zoas and other corals. it was a model citizen but i'm sure it's dependent on fish. i kept it well fed so that probably didn't hurt.
  12. It's great how everything has grown together and how many different corals you have in there.
  13. it's a 48' fixture. thanks i updated the original thread.
  14. thanks everyone. i have a advanced point and shoot but i didn't take the time to mess with the different settings.
  15. wow, it's been a while since i've updated this. guess that's what happens when a kid enters your life. tank has gone through some ups and downs. here a few pics to show it's current state. biggest change is i switched out the VHOs and MH lighting to T5s. I got (2) 5' long (6) bulb ATI sunpower fixtures from madmike. i'm really happy i did. pics show up a little bluer than it is in person. 16. also note that you may need to turn it up to 12v once you have the light in a canopy cause the light will run warmer in a canopy.
  17. I have the following lighting for sale. (3) Icecap 250 watt MH ballasts. two of them are slightly used and the other one has been used for about 8 hours a day for over 5 years. asking $50 for each of the slighting used ones and $25 for the other one. (1) Blueline 250 watt MH ballast, asking $25. (1) PFO mini pendant with PFO ballast box that will house one of the icecap ballasts, asking $25. (1) mini pendant similar to the PFO pendant but not sure the brand, free with any ballast. (2) retrofit 250 watt DE reflectors with glass lenses, asking $20 each. (2) ARO MR-192 ballasts to run PC lights, currently setup with straight pin PC bulbs. can run up to (2) 96 watts of bulbs each. asking $25 each. (6) bulb 48" T5 Ocean Light fixture by Aqua medic, i got this from another member on the forums. asking $175. needs bulbs. 18. hope the lights work well for you. they did for me, it was just time for me to try some new lighting. i didn't talk to the other person at upscales today but i assume that Gill was the other guy with the kid? i always wonder if other people in there are on the forums.

    fish trap

i'm done with Kim's fish trap. i can bring it to work with me and a lot of times i come through portland on my home from work. send me a pm if you want it or i'll return it to Kim.
  20. for most tanks 6' in length or less and under 200g in size i would go with starfire glass. living with acrylic isn't the easiet IME and opinion. it can be done but acrylic is easy to scratch. i've heard great things about miracles. only thing i've heard about glasscages is they are cheap. i have not had any direct experiences with either. the tank i have is from envision and it's very nice but again go with starfire if you can. Fish Trap

yeah, i'm hoping to be done with it sometime this weekend.
  22. we had that same problem at the jellyfish tank when we were there two weeks ago. great pics by the way!
  23. Ushio 14k are white with yellow tint in my experience, i tried them a few years back before i found phoenix bulbs. i run phoenix bulbs with no actinic supplements but i like the white with blue tint light they produce. i run them on icecap ballasts. they aren't very blue IMO. depending on what kind of ballast you run the color of the bulb might vary a little.

    Elephant Skin

I agree it is one of the most underrated corals. I've had this one for 3 years, before that my dad had it for about 2 years. it doesn't grow very fast for me. the most current pic below is from a year ago.
