  3. i used it in a sump for a 75 gallon tank i had setup about 14 years ago. that tank was only setup for about 3 years and it seemed to work well for me. at that time i relied on water changes to replenish calcium, alkalinity...etc but i had a mix of softies and LPS at that time so there wasn't a huge demand for those elements. I haven't used it in any tanks since cause it was expensive. supposedly it replenishes trace elements and you have to replace 50% every year for it to keep doing this so take that into account. if you are going for DSB just use sand it's much less expensive than the mud.
  4. I got this same doser but haven't set it up yet. What do you think so far? It was a good deal for a 4 pump doser with controller. I'm wondering how reliable it will be long term.
  5. actually i had 2 other people PM me about that fish asking if they could borrow or buy it. i thought you might be kidding but wasn't sure. thanks!
  6. i'd rather not mess with catching it and then reintroducing it into the tank. plus having to put the fish through 8 weeks of quarantine again. thanks! the selection is a little different than what i've done in the past. i really like the large wrasses even though i can't have any hermits or shrimp and they are annoying cause they have the tendency to move corals that aren't glued down. thanks, yeah it's 400g.
  7. Here are some better pictures of the skimmer and the chip on the collection cup. The chip on the collection cup is on the right side of the cup in the 2nd picture. Also, lets try $350. http://IMG_20161215_205710 by kilmca, on Flickr http://IMG_20161215_205901 by kilmca, on Flickr
  8. yeah i wonder about the accuracy too and might use the Triton test at some point. i'm testing the tank water with the Red Sea test kits at the time i take the sample i'm sending to the lab and since all my test results match their results it seems to be pretty accurate. The 4 pack test kit by this company came out to $33 per test.
  9. I recently ordered a 4 pack of water tests from Aqua Medic Water Testing company. its expensive but i wanted to compare the test kits i'm using to a lab test. I got my first test results back and they are listed below. I've been testing with a Red Sea test kit for CA, ALK, MAG, NO3 and PO4. I'm surprised how close my numbers are with the Red Sea test kits to these numbers tested by a lab. the lab test confirms i need to reduce nitrates, phosphates and silica plus increase calcium. i knew those levels needed to be addressed and have been working on that. i didn't have a silca test so i need to look into how to lower that. i just changed my RODI filters so that might help a little. the RODI filters were long overdue for a change. I haven't done a water change since i tore down and restarted the tank in May. http://Capture by kilmca, on Flickr I would like to hear anyone's thoughts on this service or ones like it. i've got a year to use the 3 remaining tests and plan to use them as i make changes or see any significant changes in the tank.
  10. yeah i had to grab this since i was looking for a used one on other reef forums.
  11. i grew up back east in PA and the salt is horrible on everything. even if you wash your vehicle every week it will start rusting after a few years. it's a real hassle to deal with repairing rust on a vehicle that is only 10 years old and sad if the vehicle is mechanically sound. if we got more snow here i might be asking for them to use salt here but with how much snow we get it's not worth it. next time they are calling for snow i'll be leaving before it starts or waiting it out.
  12. i work in hillsboro and live in oregon city. left work at 2:30, huge mistake. got to the fred meyer in tualatin around 8:30 and hung out there till 11. got chains for my rear wheel drive car cause if i have to stop on a hill it's tough to get going again and it won't it make it up the steep hills in OC. got home in 30 minutes at 11. so many cars were abandoned on the side of the road. my rear wheel drive car with chains is surprisingly good in the snow, just have to go slow on the highway. i was on the road 6 1/2 hours but it took me 9 hours to get home.
  13. i got this from BEVO on the forums who i believe got it from Brian67. It's a great skimmer just the other one i had works a little better. in great condition except for a chip on the top of the body where the cup sits. doesn't effect performance. asking $400. it's no longer in my sump but these are the only pictures i have of it. it's the one with the black acrylic not the white one in the pictures below. i can get some more pictures tonight. http://0505162143b by kilmca, on Flickr http://0505162143a by kilmca, on Flickr
  14. That's a great story and really inspiring!
  15. yes, your tank looks great. great idea on the multiple partition social box. i've been using a fish trap to introduce the last few new fish to my tank. it definitely seems to help make the transition easier when adding a new fish.
  16. previous owner said it does but i don't have any so i'm not sure. he gave it to me when i was getting a couple other things from him when he was tearing down his tank. great fish cause it eats pellets, flake and frozen.
  17. i really like Clown Tangs, that looks like a nice one in the original post. i had one for about 5 years and it was a great fish up until it became so aggressive it was like i had one fish in a 400g tank. all the other fish wouldn't come out cause they would get chased. i caught it by putting my hand in the tank and a net and when it came to attack me i scooped it up in the net. it was 7" when i got rid of it. http://DSC01869 by kilmca, on Flickr
  18. Worked from home today cause of the weather. Had some time to take a video and pictures with a new phone i got. Still too blue but better than the last phone. First picture below is actually a video, click on it and it should take you to flickr and you can watch it there. hopefully it works. http://VID_20161208_140845 by kilmca, on Flickr http://IMG_20161208_141435 by kilmca, on Flickr http://IMG_20161208_141426 by kilmca, on Flickr http://IMG_20161208_141412 by kilmca, on Flickr http://IMG_20161208_141359 by kilmca, on Flickr http://IMG_20161208_141358 by kilmca, on Flickr http://IMG_20161208_141616 by kilmca, on Flickr http://IMG_20161208_141459 by kilmca, on Flickr
  19. thanks! i was a little worried about it getting harassed but it's out swimming around and eating from the same algae clip as all the other fish.
  20. Late submission and the best I could do with a phone. Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
  21. wow! it's been a while since i saw you on the forums. i've got a rubbermaid bin full of rock that went through a muratic acid bath this summer.
  22. i think the three mini colonies in the center back of the picture below is pocillopora but not sure. please id...thanks! [/url]2016-09-26_08-29-06 by kilmca, on Flickr">http://2016-09-26_08-29-06 by kilmca, on Flickr
  23. well that's good to hear cause i have read the opposite online. the one hvac guy i know, unfortunately retired, said they used to be unreliable but recently have improved their quality. i will say both models have a 10 year parts warranty and limited lifetime compressor warranty. i'm guessing there is something in the fine print that make that a useless warranty past the 10 year mark. thanks for the input guys!.
  24. looking to have my oil furnace from 1948 replaced with an electric furnace backing up a heat pump. i'd go natural gas but don't have access to it where i live. contractors are giving me estimates on a coleman CH16B3621 and a goodman DSZC16. i believe there are some hvac contractors on here and i was wondering about manufacturer reliability and customer service? any advice would be greatly appreciated.
