  1. This sounds like an interesting project.  Will this include choices on types of equipment, mechanisms for nutrient export, water parameter control, lighting options and how those may affect the various types of fish and coral species that can be maintained?  I could see a lot of work going into something that would have predictive value regarding livestock compatibility.  Good luck!

  2. Glad to hear there looks to be some progress!  BTW - I still have that Duncan frag I got from you just before the "troubles" set in so you are welcome to have that back if you lost yours.

New sump with the roller mat looks sweet!  Will be curious to hear how that works out for you.  Definitely like the concept - especially if you have been fighting nitrate levels.  How are you going to house things during the reboot?  Sounds like you have a second tank setup somewhere.

Fwiw.. i have a pair of really tall jack posts if someone wants them.  The go from like 4 feet to about 7 feet.

Hey Brian - do you still have these?  They can come in really handy in a 1909 bungalow 😀

Hey Chris!  Good to "see" you man.  This post made me think of you 😀  Going to shoot you a PM about an unrelated issue so keep an eye out.

Actually, looks like you can't receive messages so maybe your inbox is full?

I have a weather station on my roof.

Why does this not surprise me 😀

Power was out for 14hrs.  Lesson learned... tankless hot water is great till there's a power outage.  Haha

Brrrr.  Hadn't thought about that - hate cold showers!  Hope the tank did OK.

  6. Hi all,

One of our members is clearing out for a move and contacted us about donating some items - probably mostly supplements etc. - so I was wondering if anyone knew if any of our TFT tanks was still up and running anywhere.  Obviously we could hold onto them until a later time but some items might be time sensitive.  I will have a list later this week but just wanted to get the conversation going.  Thanks!

But I still don’t know for sure what the root cause could be.

Super frustrating John - I know the feeling.  After just leaving mine alone for a few months, I have started to see my encrusting corals making a comeback by coloring up and spreading fairly well.  The lone acro starting encrusting and growing again and a few things I thought were completely gone have shown signs of coming back.  I did recently add a bag of live sand and some miracle mud per some other suggestions and that at least hasn't hurt anything.  I would be curious to run another ICP and aquabiomics analysis but I think I will wait a bit longer to see if the comeback is sustained.  I added some additional test frags of various types over the weekend to see how things go.

Hope your's  turns around soon.  I didn't see the spike in nutrients (but my phosphate has been high for a while) still suspicious that this might be a side effect rather than causal to the problem (e.g. reduced intake due to die off) but obviously, it doesn't hurt to be confident in your mechanical filtration regardless.

    Good luck!

The citric acid clean did the trick on both fronts. The microbubbles have subsided and the skimmer is no longer overflowing.

    Thank you!

Glad to hear that worked out!

  9. I would suspect it just needs to break in or you have something in your tank water as Blue Z was trying to get at above.  I have run a couple of different AquaMaxx models (currently a Q3) and haven't had an issue with the over-foaming or microbubbles once they were conditioned so hopefully this clears up for you soon.  Word of caution however - if it is something like prime in the water, it might take a while if you are cycling the skimmate back into the sump.

    Good luck!
