maybe someone mentioned this but i found a product called a generlink which seems like an interesting product.  Not sure if it's allowed here in OR or by PGE but i like how simple it is and switching off the breakers i don't need is easy.

    http://www.generlink.com/generlink.html

we have a 3500 watt generator that worked great and would have been more than enough for the 120 gallon tank i had when i bought the generator but now i have a bigger setup so it was a little undersized for the tank and house.  i got a 5000w generator off amazon but instead of one they delivered two on back-to-back days.  i told the 2nd delivery guy one was already delivered and he said it looks like you get two for the price of one.  i contacted customer service and they'll be picking up the 2nd one which is disappointing but what i expected.  i thought maybe Jeff Bezos was feeling generous.

Yeah, I checked out their site but couldn't find a reference to which regions/power companies allowed it.

I used my sawzall and a diamond tile blade once.  This is good if you want to make a bunch of frags from a colony all at once because as your cutting it will catch on something throw the colony across the room and breaking it into a bunch of little pieces.

Well Brad used to frag colonies by throwing them on the floor so sounds like you on on the right track!

As far as live coral we will not see those solitary coral that took 10-20 years to grow to saleable size level like cynarina, acanthophyllia, trachyphyllia ect.

I often wondered if we would ever see viable mariculture of these types of corals... seems unlikely due to that kind of maturation time line and propagation challenges sadly.

ReefBotV2 is out, congrats to those who waited :)

    https://www.reefkinetics.com/product/reefbot/

    Upgraded features

Needle Reach – The needle can now reach most of the reagents in the vials allowing you to perform more tests before refilling.

Design upgrade – Minor changes were done on the design of the ReefBot V2 to give it a smoother look than the ReefBot V1.

Reset Button – A reset button was added to the ReefBot V2 which was not found in it’s younger version.

Device communication –  0/10V communication protocol for 3rd party devices.

New Actuator – The ReefBot V2’s uses an upgraded mechanical design that allows it to test your tank’s parameters and return the results even faster than the original ReefBot!

We replaced the old actuator with a new one that is more sturdy and reliable.

More precision – The ReefBot V2 is more precise in testing in which it has higher resolution titration tests with a precision of 0.001 milliliter (1μl ).

Quieter – The ReefBot V2 is ever more silent as we are trying to keep your testing as smooth as possible.

That is pretty high resolution for automated titration testing - at least in this application.  Going to upgrade?

Just got this monster home. It’s heavy!!!

is it weird that I am wishing for a week long power outage all of a sudden?

I would prefer the item sitting next to it personally 🙂.  May not be that useful to run your tanks though...

Use the two holes already there and do a Herbie. Drill up high on the back pane in the box for the return. You can probably actually reuse the returns that it came with so the weir teeth will still work and cover those two big U shaped holes in the weir.

This is what I was thinking as well since I get the reluctance to drill so close to the existing holes in the bottom.  Assuming the back isn't tempered of course 😁

Was feeding LRS to my tank as usual. I just throw big chunks of it. Walk to the freezer to put the rest back. Turn around and I see my yellow tang sideways at the bottom of the tank. He was fine 5 seconds ago. He’s not breathing well and not moving. I reach into the tank and when I grab it - a puff of LRS chunks squirts out of his mouth. He’s moving now but looks dazed and barely swimming. At least he’s upright...10 seconds later he’s back to normal

so who else has had to perform fish Heimlich maneuver before?

Glad that ended well but dang!  Never ceases to amaze me what certain fish will try and eat.

Two things of note.. never ever never run anything but clear gas (non-ethanol gas) in your generator.  If you run it and let it sit for a year the ethanol will react and cause all of this nasty deposits that will clog the carburetor.  So next time you need it, it wont start.

2nd thing, but a can of starter fluid and put it on the shelf next to your gen.  That way you can be sure you get it running when you need it to.

This is good info and perhaps partly something I ran into with mine.  Question: where do you get clear gas during the winter when all the stations seem to run ethanol mix by default?  I hate to have cans sitting around collecting water but maybe you use some sort of scavenger in them and just have a store of "summer" gas on hand?

    I sold the RV

Off topic (what's new) but didn't realize you guys got rid of the RV!

On topic (for a change) I have made use of a small Honda gas powered generator a few times in recent years and it was definitely a life saver.  That said, I wouldn't mind moving away from having to have liquid fuel on hand and worrying about clogged carburetors etc.  Don't necessarily need a whole house system but, like Kim, would be curious about other options.  Anything that can be plumbed into NG lines?

I never believe the hype I have been a fan too long lol. Jerry has too much control. I just savor the wins like a rare delicacy ..:drinking:

Well not quite as rare as Raider wins since 2002 so there is that going for you!

I had great success with berghia in my fuge. I kinda think if you can get the overflow to fill with standing water for an hour or so (obviously with the return off), they can find a home. Then let it drain and turn on the return pump.

This worked for one of my two overflows when I tried it.  I eventually covered them so that they got no light (also kept my fish from jumping in) - that did the trick.

I was out of town taking care of my dying grandma, and then arranging her funeral, so we weren’t able to prepare for the storm. Been without power since we got home Sunday and struggling to keep my tanks at 60 degrees... if anyone has a generator they don’t need let me know. At this point I’m expecting the worst 😔

Hey Jamie - so sorry to hear.  I do have a generator I'm not using but may take some work to get it running.  You are welcome to it if you can pick it up (I'm at work).

Lol how did an innocuous question about an ice storm get so off topic ? :joking: Can we debate sports too? I wish the Cowboys had a quarterback as good as Aaron Rogers opinion of himself. Am I the only one that can’t stand that guy ? He’s always blaming everyone else for his losses.

Remember when it looked like the Raiders and the Boys were primed for a big year at the same time?  Yeah, that didn't happen...
