  1. Well, there are various ways to set these up so no single answer here. Bubble rate combined with water flow through the reactor will determine the pH in the chamber and hence the release of calcium carbonate into the tank. People use needle vale’s and solenoids to control the co2 and often pH controls to regular those as well as peristaltic pumps and valves to control the water flow through the reactor and into the tank. Works great when dialed in but takes some work and lots of testing while you do that. This is all to control alk calcium levels and replenish these as the hard corals grow.
  2. These are used on calcium reactors to control the pH and dissolve media in the chamber. Definitely not piped directly into the tank like fresh water planted systems.
  3. OK... so tell us what you googled to find that pic. Reassuring somehow to see that Holly's sale threads can turn into a free for all even during a pandemic!
  4. OK - thanks! Might be able to make it over before you close anyway but just wanted to make sure.
  5. Hey Jorge - just realized that the 24th is Friday (today). Can we pick these up tomorrow as well or does it need to be today? Thanks!
  6. There is one on interstate in North PDX just off the freeway - super convenient.
  7. Yeah - Homebrew is my go to and open on weekends. Also not sure about anything over 5lbs though... worth a call.
  8. Looking good John. Did you adjust the individual light intensities to compensate for the additional fixture or do a slow ramp up?
  9. It's funny - I had gsp growing on the overflow box of my old tank for years and it never spread onto the rock work or anywhere else it the tank. Guess I just got lucky 🤗
  10. I figured this is what was going on there - nice solution.
  11. The colors in your tank certainly looked great under this light!
  12. Hi Pete, I don't think there is any magic bullet here and everyone I know suffers from unexplainable swings at some point. That said, there are folk on here who have been able to dial in some pretty impressively consistent numbers - at least with regards to the big three. Both SuncrestReef and TheClark have been getting really tight numbers on their systems but they both are utilizing continuous (4-8 times a day) testing via their Tritons and have controls setup up to use that data to adjust either dosing rates or CA reactor parameters respectively. This has resulted in something like 0.1 Alk unit swings over prolonged time - super stable. Of course, this comes at the cost of an Apex and Triton setup plus integration costs. I can't recall what size your tank is but that seems to be a common contributing factor as well - more volume means things happen more slowly so it's easier to catch and more inherent stability. Obviously, that comes with it's own costs as well. I have found the the hardest part is keeping nitrate/phos levels balanced. These can be rock solid for months then one or the other will suddenly fluctuate with no apparent husbandry changes - super frustrating and often a precursor to other secondary problems (algae, cyan, Dino outbreaks). I do believe that large refugium with a deep sand bed (or other bio equivalent) helps here but doesn't completely eliminate the problem. Also, another promising avenue here is working on one's microbiome diversity. Aquabiomics has started collecting a lot of data on microbiomes from many people's tanks and comparing the different bacterial spectra so there is hope that this will lead to recommendations on what the "best" profile might be for promoting stability with nutrient balance. Still early there however. Good luck!
  13. I have seen some red dragon as Seahorse recently - not sure if you are looking for an LFS or private seller. As Lexinverts mentioned, ATA definitely had lots of red dragon last I was there (pretty amazing actually).
  14. Hi Blue Z - looking for the magnet (wet side) that holds the unit to the glass but that shaft will work in mine so wouldn't mind having it as a backup if you don't need it. Now that you bring it up, the wet side (silent suspension) magnet is also a fit for both the 150 and 250 so changed the title to show that. Thanks!
  15. Yeah, are all these things really going to fit in her daughter's tank???
  16. Just bumping this up for Monday before I order some replacements (assuming they are still fulfilling these). Thanks!
  17. Just picked up a Copper Band from Seahorse and it eat frozen it's first day in the tank - was eating in the store which is why I brought it home. They have actually been having pretty good luck getting ones eating before sending them out... not sure where they are sourced from.
  18. Oh man... you let Scott in? What's this comp coming to anyway 😀 @Jorge @spectra
  19. Hey all, Just picked up a set of used Gyre 250s to try and need a replacement westside magnet. Thought I would check in to see if anyone had a dead unit they wanted to sell off for parts or spare magnets. Give me a shout if so. Thanks!
  20. Ok how about $15 on 1 (Miami hurricane) and 10 (skittles) and $20 on 9 (acan)
  21. That is interesting. What are you using to regulate currently? What are the units there? I'm curious since I have been working recently to get mine dialed back in after experimenting with a different reactor (did not go well).
  22. Very nice. Looks like the residual variation might be settling into a bit more consistent pattern but still not strictly tied to TOD. Good stuff!
