  1. Watch the pH during a black out. It's not the lack of light that seem to kill the corals, it's the pH drop. Just run the skimmer and keep the fuge light on longer if applicable. HTH
  2. I just pull mine out once a year or so hose them down and soak them if need be. I have a friend who had a very large tank and his 1" pipes were down to a 1/2" pipe without the crud that built up. It's part of why I soft plumb my tanks whenever possible too. Coupla unions can take the plumbing off to soak in a rubbermaid. HTH
  3. If you can mount it where it is easy to get to you can use a $5 timer from Target and set it to run for 23 hours. Then when you feed, just turn the timer until it clicks off. Then it will click back on in an hour. I did that before I had my apex. Had my return pump and my skimmer connected to it. HTH
  4. Looks like that thing did open up nicely for you. Glad it's happy in it's new home. Thanks for showing me the tank today
  5. Please do when you can. This would be perfect for my 90g if it works well. Excited to see what you think.
  6. When you get home if you want help getting it back up hit me up. I can come over and help out, donate some frags. Let us know what you need. One great thing about this community over the last 10 years I have seen is that we all support each other.
  7. 1. No, just keep it in the tank, it is small it won't be to heavy 2. Ya maybe, pick up some Prime or other similiar product to detoxify the ammonia 3. You won't need a babysitter, prime is cheap. I can watch stuff if you want, but you won't need it, just use Prime. Amquel is good if you can't find Prime 4. Depends on how far the move is. I have moved my tanks 9 times now, everywhere from 400 yards to a 1000 miles. In all cases I would say have extra clean water on hand. If you have a 10g tank and you have 20g of water on hand you won't have to fear anything, especially if you have Prime/Amquel. As for your plan rinsing out the tank is kinda weird. Might skip that If you have specific questions hit me up.
  8. LOVE IT! I am a connoisseur of bad jokes and I have never heard that one.
  9. That actually would work for me. Nice! My schedule has been crazy. Text me tomorrow. 10 minutes to setup the reactor, the rest of the time to drink beer Did you get a frag of forest fire yet? I can bring one over as the tank warming present if you haven't.
  10. I'll take third in line on that... or first in line on your current one lol
  11. I know the experts say they will strip the sand bed in a matter of months but I kept mine for about 7 years first in my 65g tank and then moved it to the 125g when I upgraded. I did have a fairly large refugium back then. I liked the starfish, but decided I liked harlequin shrimp better. I gave the sand sifter to a good home and moved on to the harlequins. IME the sand sifters are buried so much of the time that the are not really that cool. I am thinking of getting some Linkia's for my system now, but just never make my way to a fish store anymore. JME
  12. I would not chance this with SPS myself. I did use to do this once a month as part of my maintence when I kept sofites and LPS. Biggest issue was the drop in pH. Follow the 72 lights out period with a large water change and you can get rid of a lot of algae at once. Now I just carbon dose. What fish and corals do you have in their now?
  13. Some of the non reef safe fish are amazing. So many great wrasses or some of the predators. There are a lot of fun non reef fish you could do in a 120. . . Bird wrasse...
  14. Ya, FOWLR's are a lot easier. You can let nitrates climb much higher (depending on the fish), don't have to worry to much about Alk levels, and as long as you are running a skimmer just carbon dosing might eliminate the need for a water change... ever. Algae outbreak, turn off the lights for 4 days and let it skim out What kind of fish are you thinking about?
  15. 100mL a day... a calcium reactor is going to be cheaper long term, depending on your 2 part cost it took me about a year to break even. Of course last time I ran out of C02 my tank was taking 300 mL a day, so I think I broke even sooner then I would have. These corals keep growing. A CA reactor has been great for me and my corals. The consistency is amazing. I am slowly waining on testing alk as I now use my forest fire monti's polyp extension as a guage. It is surprisingly accurate. I switched a little over a year ago. I am happy I did. HTH
  16. Wow, that is cool. I might have to show up to a meeting
  17. Rolekii, I asked the questions because I am interested. I own a photography studio and we are constantly buying gear for our different photographers. There is a wide variation on tripods and lights. If you get me some details I can see if it is worth it for us to do. You will be surprised on how long they can last. I have a camera with over 500,000 activations on it. Those shutters really can last a very long time.
  18. What model is the tripod? Does it have a ball head? What model and strength is the LED? Can I get a pic of the inside of the backpack? How many activations on the Shutter? Approx is fine within 10k.
  19. IME in growing species of algae Ulva is not a fast grower. I would worry more about problems with cheato then I would with Ulva. JME
  20. My powder blue will eat bread and broccoli. I saw the bread thing on a dive boat and tried it. It's kinda fun
  21. I got the metal ones Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Ulva is a good choice, also known as sea lettuce Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
