  1. I would vote an algae scrubber I just built a waterfall style for my new setup and in a week's time I've went from 10ppm nitrate to 5ppm which is fairly impressive considering its probably only 15% covered. Took me about a half hour to build the waterfall style not the prettiest but I wanted to see if it would even work. I will fine tune it later.
  2. I'm pretty sure brs is using something similar on the brs 160 in there 52 weeks of reefing just a matt that catches debris correct? If so they sell it on there page and they felt it was the best system for mechanical filtration. Here's the link
  3. I'm not sure but in my tank everytime I've tested it's 7.6
  4. Do you think the co2 scrubber is a better option than fresh air from outside? I'm trying to decide what I'd like to do here outside wouldn't be hard as I'm on an exterior wall and can plumb to crawlspace to a vent
  5. I just QT 3 small fish in a 10 gallon made water changes and medicating cheaper. I was doing preventive treatments so I was doing 100% wc's everyday so the smaller water volume was nice.
  6. Thank you for hosting Holly!!! Was great to see your amazing setup in person! And a Great meeting topic learned alot more about cameras than I ever knew
  7. Just saw this pop up today don't know ow if you've seen it. http://www.reef2reef.com/threads/bryopsis-cure-my-battle-with-bryopsis-using-fluconazole.285096/?utm_source=newsletter_1&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=January_27_2017
  8. No offense taken they can be hit and miss but I bought one for my planted tank of a budget and Ave ran it close to a year now with no problems. Other than I order the one with the cfm gauge as opposed to bubble counter on accident.
  9. Gla regulators are the best in the planted tank world. But I've had good luck with the 100 dollar one from amazon aquatech I believe. Gla link: http://greenleafaquariums.com/products/gla-co2-regulator.html
  10. Just curious are you going to be needing to run your reactor this soon? Seeing as your aren't that heavily stocked yet. I have one but haven't set it up yet since I have had fairly stable levels at this point.
  11. I would be Interested in the books. Also like to be inline for the reef stars if they don't sell
  12. You can put any kind of media in your filter. To absorb it and seed the qt tank if you can squeeze a pot scrubber or piece of sponge in your filtration some where do it. And just always keep a piec3 in there but once used in qt throw it out
  13. Garage will get pretty cold that's where my mixing station is and it takes two 300w heaters to keep the salt warm at least of late. I set mine up in the same room as my DT but it was only temporary for a few weeks. So maybe as temporary would be an option for you and just keep some sponges in your sump to kick start bacteria everytime you have to set it up. That's how I plan to do it just finished my first cycle of QT this way
  14. I don't have guppies but am looking to break down one of my fresh water systems with porkchops rasboras and green neon tetras.
  15. Welcome to the group some of the more experienced reefer here will defintly be able to help you get on track to grow monti's!
  16. Live stock additions are out of QT and enjoying the DT
  17. I believe a hood or glass lids can help I know it does on smaller freshwater setups.
  18. Nice to meet you I'm also in St. Helens just started my first reef tank. I would say an apex isn't essential but defintly cool and really a good insurance to protect your investment. Welcome back to the forum and to join the group on the forum there is a link to the paypal and the amount needed.
  19. Very generous and killer looking pieces!
