  1. Right now it is super-quiet, but I don't have the protein skimmer yet. The overflow drain has a "muffler" on it, so it doesn't make the annoying trickling noise.

  3. Totally excited about the new Red Sea Reefer 170 I got last week from Cuttlefish. Jeff is the Bomb! He's always available for questions, helping pick out accessories and livestock, and his pricing is fantastic. Okay, enough about Jeff. Let's talk about the tank! First, the "170" is actually 170 liters, which is about 44 gallons total system volume. That's 34 gallons in the display, 9 in the sump, and one and one-half in the ATO (which comes with the setup). Super-easy setup. The plumbing snaps together. There is a glass sump with an ATO built-in. The set up does not come with the return pump, protein skimmer, or light. That's a-okay with me, though. That way I could pick up exactly what I wanted and, of course, Jeff helped. For lighting I went with the AI Prime, which I hooked up last night. More to follow up on that. The tank is in the bedroom with viewing from the front and side, which affected how I did the aquascape. I'm no expert but had a lot of fun playing around with it. Here are some pics of the setup (and you can come see it at the club meeting on Sunday):

Okay, well I'm in SW Portland and I'm happy to meet up sometime...or we can talk by phone...or PM...whatever, just let me know how I can help you. I have a couple of Rick Steves Pocket books you are welcome to, and some tips that might be helpful. Holly

Oh, and we should probably move this topic to the "Out of Bounds" forum. I'll check with the Admins.

I was just there last in November. My 16-year-old stepdaughter and I stayed for about a week and had a great time. I have TONS of good info as well as a couple of travel books you are welcomed to. Are you coming to the meeting at my house on Sunday?
  9. Oh, was I supposed to count the Hospital and Quarantine tanks? I guess that makes the count eight. Now I do sound a bit nutty. But still...he has a lift! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  10. Brad is right. I just did the exact do it yourself screen for the top of my new tank. It really was very easy. Home Depot has the screen kit for 12 dollars, and then I bought these spline roller for 3. The only thing I did not buy is the actual screen because a friend gave me some left over. Worked fine. They might have that at Home Depot also, but I did not look. Here is the kit.

  12. The July club meeting will be at my house THIS SUNDAY, July 26, at 2:00 p.m. and you should totally come. I live in southwest Portland just east of Beaverton and Tigard. It's convenient to get to from I-5 and from 217. PM me for the address (which I'm not posting here because I don't want random stalkers to show up and eat all the pizza). Speaking of which, there will be pizza, drinks, and whatever else you want to bring. We're going to do a Reef Master quiz for bragging rights as well as a subscription to Coral Magazine. We're also going to do a zoa identification contest. The winner will get some sort of cool frag donated by MrBret and Softy. Of particular fun will be the arguments that will ensue about the "correct" answers to both tests. You can come look at the huge blue carpet anemone in one of the display tanks, and at the 60+ anemones that are in my frag tanks downstairs. I just got a 43 gallon Red Sea Reefer tank from Cuttlefish you can take a look at, too. Lastly, I would also appreciate it if you would all write a note to my husband explaining that having six tanks is totally normal and acceptable. So Come to My House! 13. It's that time again...and it doesn't look good for the ole Gil&Fin-ster. My palys have not changed at all since the day I got them. Still 2. (Sorry about the picture, the sand sifter photo-bombed). My zoas have melted down to 14, and I'm lucky to have those. Sigh.
  14. I'm excited for you! And a little jealous...
  15. That's a really nice tank, Matty. It looks like a complete set up, I just don't see a light (except for the refugium). Is there one that comes with it?
  16. I was literally about to hit the Send button on a PM when the post came in that it sold. Doh!
  17. Ha ha, yeah Chris, how far are you from PA??? I could pick it up tomorrow and bring it to SW Portland.
  18. Holy moly! I'm so excited! Thank you to all of my peeps. This is really cool. Yay!
  19. Oh my gosh you guys!!! I DO feel the love. You guys are awesome.
  20. I see that crazy-awesome torch made it through the relocation. Looks great, Jeff!
  21. I have 17 also, if I count the babies (and I'm gonna). I still have 2 palys. Darn it.
  22. I will be there with Gil&Fin's Famous Chocolate Chip Cookies for the potluck. P.S. This is my 100th post. Just sayin'.
