  1. Good questions! Currently running phophate, alk, and nitrate, there are three open slots left. I would like to use them for iodine, but that test kit is not available in the US right now. I did do alk to see if it compares to trident, it compared quite well. The API is popular I think because it is cheap. Another criteria for popularity is number of vial locations used. I do believe it is decently accurate for nitrate just on this limited experiment, or lets say at least consistent. That said, I do have fauna marin nitrate pro ready to go once API runs out. Calcium is a pain to test, I should order some and load it up. Putting allot of faith in trident though, which honestly from a user experience is quite a bit superior to reefbot still. The flexibility is where trident is weak I suppose. As a busy guy, with a young family, I highly recommend both to you. Takes some of the work out of reefing and the disappointments for sure. Christmas is just around the corner
  2. Cool! I need one. I think the flush dumps the first bit of water, which will have high TDS when first starting up.
  3. Been testing every 2 days for nitrate. It continues to drop by itself, a bit too low now unfortunately. Maybe ignorance is bliss? Anywhooo... This is kind of cool to see that the test is 0-5 result for many iterations, but you can see the color moving towards yellow. Gives a person a chance to guess where between 0 and 5 we are...
  4. TLDR; (I think...) Food doesn't add allot of phosphate, that's encouraging to hear. I know allot of us hate algae and viciously go after anything that may cause it.
  5. Agree, I would have tried the original phillips if the prices were lower. Proof is in the puddin on all this stuff. If you have been to a sale at @Gil&Fin and see what she can do with Ocean Revives, it makes a person pause and think about where to focus efforts and $$s That sounds like a derail attempt though, just conversing, that's all
  6. I love the competition, we need it! Fascinated by the new designs, phillips is good at putting on some pressure. That ATI @Matteo is very nice looking too. The original Triton tank has a similar flat, all encompassing light. Ah yeah, here is is, 2012 ish https://reefbuilders.com/2012/12/19/triton-lani-led-europes-bestkept-aquarium-lighting-secret/ Still running ORs here, never felt compelled to upgrade yet for value / performance trade offs.
  7. Good advice for sure. Since you are sharing good tips, here were a few that came to mind... - Some people keep the emergency overflow dry, above the sump so it is always clear and nothing can grow in it. Bonus, it's loud if water goes through it, gets attention. - Do a power outage test any time you change anything in your system that could remotely affect sump levels. Easier to find out the sump will overflow when power goes out via a test, rather than when the power actually goes out. - Put a float switch in your overflow, have it turn off your return pump. This is another emergency layer. This is soooo important if you have a long drain (like cross room tied in systems) or a drain that goes under the floor and comes up. Sometimes the durso gets a bubble in it in this scenario and can trigger the emergency drain or overflow. Good stuff @shaywood nobody wants the hassle of many gallons of saltwater on the floor!
  8. If you want a starfish though...
  9. Seriously though that is awesome. I dream of having like 1,000 RFAs covering the rocks, this or the lottery, my only shot...
  10. Never! I will hoard til the day I die! Nah, I am still dreaming of getting that reef room going, otherwise no doubt it would be yours!
  11. That's awesome! I want RFA babies! Do you feed them or anything? There are some great articles out there on the topic, it is highly cool stuff!
  12. Ah yes, you remember! My phosphate back in the day was off the charts, but no doubt rocks were a huge part of it. The algae was GHA, such at PITA since we are using acronyms here I went back to the testing journal. Looks like phosphates peaked on 2/25/2014 at .84 on the hannah. Crazy to think this particular tank has been running 7 years or so... Mag is at 1337 tonight. Chemiclean is so awesome for cyano, love that stuff, thanks for the reminder. Will check out those prime reef flakes Jeff, thanks.
  13. Just thought I would post an update. After all this chasing stability, my CR and the demand is naturally in balance now. The CR has not had to be shut off for an entire week and the tank is holding a super tight DKH. 0.11 variance over three days and I suppose 12 tests... That has to be considered stable alk! So ultimately this is the goal, to have a very slowly increasing alk with corrections once a week or less. Right now she is dialed in, and APEX will keep an eye on things if they get outta hand.
  14. Oh, PS, WTH???!! Read the last sentence of this review...
  15. I want to beef up my feeding a bit. Thinking of adding an auto feeder because life gets busy and reefs like consistency. So... had allot of bad experience with foods in the past raising phosphate and triggering algae blooms. Since moving to frozen and nori only, all those problems disappeared. Cautiously I am looking to branch out again. I googled around but just curious what the local crew has to say. So... What are people (who regularly monitor phosphate and do not have algae blooms ) feeding their tanks in pellet form or something else auto feeder friendly?
  16. Are these the OR spectrum and a similar controller?
  17. Hmm... your corals look pretty happy. Basically, if your corals are doing great, don't do anything too drastic. Just take it slow and easy, test Phosphate and Nitrate to be sure you are happy with your levels. Share what works, we all fight this stuff now and then. Best of luck!
  18. Yes! Those are the ones at Winco by the water refill station.
  19. Not sure if this would work, but winco has 5 gallon refillable water jugs, the work great if you have the space.
  20. Super happy with the frags, thanks Jeff, Austin and crew!
  21. If you could use a couple Amazon can get em to you quicker than I ever could, check it out! https://www.amazon.com/UNISEAL-Flexible-Tank-Adapter-Bulkhead/dp/B071JWJ2J6 Price is decent too.
  22. On my son's tank, I tried the silicone lubricant for the first time, really helped make me a fan, so much easier to get the pipe into the bulkhead!
  23. went and checked, just a bunch of uniseals, sorry.
