  1. I just had this same problem i just disconnected at the union and went to work with my trusty metal coat hanger. Having disloged the problem i then threw a wet/dry shop vac on the end of the pipe and sucked that snail out. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  2. Black is the only option in my opinion. Funny him saying black isnt as strong I have built a couple tanks and talked to several experinced tank builders and never heard such a thing. Would be curious to know what silicone he is using and look at the specs of it. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  3. As requested some gratuitous clam shots I got today while at TPA. This isnt even half of all of them.
  4. Thanks, the fish is a Anampses neoguinaicus or black backed tamarin wrasse Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  5. Quick and dirty cell phone fts update Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  6. Go with 2x blue+ or a blue and purple+. I have 4x nanobox leds and 4x T5 in my fixture and run two blue and two purple. The leds have more than enough white in them imo. Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
  7. Par sensors don't "see" light below 450nm very well so you have to compensate for that in your calculations, I can't remember by what percent off the top of my head though. You have to remember that there are no par meters designed specifically for our hobby so they are all not designed to read the heavy blue spectrum we commonly use. Personally if my corals look good I would care less what par they are getting, they are highly adaptable animals and will generally let you know if they aren't getting what they need. 8. Lacquer thinner would probably work just need a solvent that leaves zero residue after it evaporates I know lacquer thinner is basically just acetone with some other stuff added to control evaporation time and such. Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
  9. I run an old CS1 skimmer on my system and it has never missed a beat even the sk2500 pump so many people had problems with is still churning away all day long. Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
  10. Rtv103 or 108 silicone if you want black or clear. Prep work is paramount for a successful seal. I use razor blades to cut out the old silicone and scrape as much as I can off the glass just make sure to not cut into the silicone between the panes of glass. When I have as much off as I can get with razor blades I switch to acetone and superfine steel wool to scrub any residue left. I then tape my lines for the seams, give any exposed areas a wipe down with rubbing alcohol let it dry and then lay my bead of silicone. Then immediately smooth with finger, caulk square or back of a spoon in a pinch then pull your tape and let cure for at least a week. Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
  11. If you are looking for something similar color wise and an encruster check out (PPE) purple people eater cyphastrea Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
  12. I can't comment on the specific aquaticlife brand but I have used a unit off eBay for the last 4 years that uses the exact same filters as it and have had zero issues. Only reason I would consider upgrading is if I needed a higher output unit. I always run a DI stage, it's >5 TDS coming out of the RO but being I don't know what that 5 TDS is I would rather not have it in my tank if I can help it. Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
  13. Wish I was closer I would love this piece Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
  14. I have a 20k ushio with less than a month on it Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
  15. I run my reactor at 6.5 with reborn and have no problem with it breaking down to mush in the reactor, so I would think you are good to go. Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
  16. Stuck solenoid maybe? You could try closing your needle valve all the way if it's not and see if PH remains stable then. Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
  17. In your situation Rudy have you found that optics or drive current has the most impact on getting the necessary par needed for your setup. Just wondering if a fixture like the triton lani with some reflectors would be feasible for a setup like yours. I do agree that not one fixture will fit everyone and every situation. I don't think leds will ever be as plug and play as MH or T5 and as they are now it definitely takes more education and time by the end user to achive desired results, but you don't get the flexabilty of leds without a little extra leg work somewhere. Sometimes I look at certain commercial fixtures and wonder what they are thinking, like you said tying violet and white together on the same channel is setting the end user up for failure. 18. If there are wide enough optics to mimic the spread of a 15" or 20" mh reflector or a t5 parabolic then by all means let me know. The one thing leds really bring to the table right now over other light sources is efficiency and controllability. last time I checked the datasheets for every popular 3w led used in current fixtures they all hit their peak efficiency when driven at around 1w or 350ma. So to maintain that efficiency it is optimal to run a higher diode density at less current which also has the benefit of increased spread and light saturation. The one downside is the increased up front cost because of the increased diode count. I am not sure what circuitry issues a higher diode count would entail as long as proper drivers and power sources are used and as for moisture issues I know a t least one fixture on the market that is waterproof so with the proper design it shouldn't be a problem. 19. +1 if I wanted a high output single source light I would use a mh bulb and less heaters in my tank with a few select leds to tweak color temp to my liking. Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
  20. Replaced the 15g column with a 30cube Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
  21. No lenses and more diodes = better light saturation and even growth IMO. It has been proven leds can provide enough light 24" down without lenses for sps growth. It will require a higher diode density per square foot than most fixtures currently on the market to achive optimal results I think though. I have been considering trying enough d120's for edge to edge tank coverage and no lenses to see results but I really just don't have the time or money. So it's really just one more idea rattling around in my head. Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
  22. My red planet has encrusted a 4x5" area and not so much as a single branch over 1/2" I am begining to think I have some special species of encrusting acropora Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
  23. It's just weird as I always post photos this way and the angel photo is in the exact same place as the rest of them. Unless Google changed something on their end, I'll have to figure something else out as I hate photo bucket it always makes my photos look like crap. I guess I'll just have to play around with it when I have some more time. Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
