A growout is where a group of people go in together on an obscenely expensive small colony of something. They either let one person grow out the whole thing for a while and frag it up, or they frag it immediately and hope for the best. Acans are always a very risky venture in my opinion, but that's just my opinion. I've not had good luck with one or two head acan frags myself, and acans tend to be very slow growers.

I have the eheim and highly recommend it. It even survived a dip in the tank. Sadly it did not survive a second dip and was replaced. The key though is a feeding ring or pvc pipe to keep the food from going straight into the overflow

These do work great, but they are loud and really really fast compared to the BRS 1.1 ml/min doser. I'm using one on my 16g nano at work, and it's so fast that it clouds my tank if I don't space out doses to like 10 a day, which is kind of a pain to program.

Looking in my sump area right now. Tongs-check in a couple sizes. Magnifying glass-check. Turkey baster-check x 3. My only other tool is a small quick clamp to hold plastic bags to tank rim while acclimating. Oh, and lots of small hand towels. And a nice led flashlight. And this paddle ball game. And this lamp...bonus points to those who get the last two.

I'd do it to if there's room. I came in second place in the teco green slimer grow out a couple years ago! That's what I was handing out to everyone at the happy hour!

I've had best luck with very small barbless fish hook and a chunk of table shrimp from grocery store. Kind of funny buying a single table shrimp from the meat counter. Fish on!!!

My 5 lb tank lasted about 9 months on my tank. I had to replace/add media after about 6 months. My reactor is the same as fishmanmike, but I've got a fancy 2 stage regulator that Wanareef built up. I've also got a Dwyer MMA flow gage for effluent, and running a Sicce 1.0 pump for feed. I have a throttle ball valve on discharge of feed pump going into reactor, then a fancy Vertex/Uline needle valve for final balance. Took a bit of patience to get dialed in, but now it's a no brainer that I rarely have to even look at. I have a secondary chamber, but I believe it's worthless really. I've got magnesium on top of reborn media in main reactor that isn't breaking down, so no co2 is making it to second chamber to make it worthwhile. I still have to add magnesium to my tank manually. I don't miss having to mix 1 gal jugs of 2 part once a month though.
