  1. This sucks big time! You had a pretty sweet african cichlid tank when I met you I totally geeked out on. I'd be willing to bet a FOWLR is easier than cichlids though due to the amazing power of the protein skimmer. Could be wrong since it's been 25 years since I had them and I was running with canisters under the tank. Time for some big non reef safe fish?
  2. WTH Brian did you break down your tank?
  3. Awesome! What a cool behind the scenes tour of the oyster hatchery but even better getting to see your amazing system in the same trip! I'm excited.
  4. Wow, the pic with you for scale really shows just how large a tank that is! That is huge! You need a snorkel and mask to work on that I'll bet. Great looking system. Cool looking stepstool too. I remember seeing something like that from Ryan from BRS on his epic home build. Also interested to learn what that fabric is handing down from your hanging canopy, looks like a brilliant solution. Let's talk her into hosting a meeting group!
  5. Thank goodness I remember you talking about this last time I saw you. I'm having some STN on a couple acros and looking to order some of this tonight! Thanks @Lexinverts and @obrien.david.j!
  6. Wow John, glad that all came together finally! Looks awesome. Shuffleboard too!
  7. I've got purple plate going out of control you could have some of, and some monti undata I could break off. I'm in Tigard. Some green plate too laying on the sand that broke off.
  8. Thank you to all involved for keeping this going! Our local club makes a big difference in my life and I very much appreciate what you all do!
  9. I've got a single RapidLED Corona fixture. Only used for about 20 minutes and it's been sitting around for probably 5 years. It wouldn't sync up correctly with my home wifi but worked at my workplace. You're welcome to try it and if it works I'd give it to you cheap. Rudy at Golden Basket ran these for many years on his systems.
  10. AI Nero 3 lower cost option, and I'm actually a bigger fan of the AI pumps over the Ecotech. Google Jaebo for lower cost copies that work OK but crap out about the 1 year mark ime. All programable with adjustable min/max flow and ramping up and down. A lesson you'll learn, either the easy way or the hard way, is that you get what you pay for in this hobby and it's worth spending the money up front. Trust someone who's been doing this for 30 years now.
  11. I run one similar to what Micah shows on a timer for 15 minutes three times a day. It's in series with an old fashioned float valve and it's been running perfect for 15 years or so. Good reminder though that I should order a backup to keep on hand.
  12. Boo. I hate to see that you're getting out of the hobby...
  13. Chlorine is the main thing to worry about isn't it? I'm in Tigard, and they were using chloramines up until a few years back when they switched to chlorine.
  14. But stealing is the best part of white elephant gifting!!!
  15. Dang, Kim is calling me out. I'm in. Bert, you better join too. @badxgillen
  16. I'd say there's something else going on in your water. Mine has done this on occasion due to something in the water. I'm betting you've got it turned way down compared to normal too. Turn it back up and dump the cup 5 or 6 times and see if it settles down. If not turn it off for a day or so and try again
  17. https://apnews.com/article/fish-saltwater-aquarium-coral-reef-580c16f3aaa6e8e7209597ff92488130 Interesting article from AP on saltwater aquarium fish trade. Nothing new, but recent article I believe.
  18. Well I tried this, and the aptasia looked like they fully melted away. Stinky in the room for a day to boot. But two weeks later, they are all back fully.
  19. And I love that we can bypass the language filter in videos!!!
