  1. Hey stop blaming your tank! You're just hit middle-age, move into a bigger house...rofl
  2. Still have plenty to give away! Will be around Sunday PM if you want to pick up. I am in the SW close to Beaverton PM Me
  3. Thanks but the Pen like model won't fit my needs. I am looking for a portable meter with a seperate probe such as the SMS series for Milwaukee like teh SMS122 ( http://www.marineandreef.com/shoppro/electronics_milwaukee.html) or the pinpoint series ( http://www.marineandreef.com/shoppro/electronics_pinpoint.htm) , the probe will go directly inside my Ca Reactor (there is a hole dedicated to it) and plug the hole while giving me readout. Better if there is an AC adapter coming with it as I don't want to rely on batteries. anything else you have for Ca reactor trade or rose Anem?
  4. A baby rose BTA (1/2 inch diameter) just sliced itselfs off from my biger one Frags of Monti Cap (red, green, purple) or Monti dig (brown, purple, orange) Possibly frags of 2 more SPS (an acro white with lavender tips ) and a solid yellow-green Frospawn frag, birdnest frag (2 types, pink and yellow-green) I could also frag some zoos if interested (I have 2 types of pink, and orange that are quite nice) and of course some of the more common ones green, red etc.. Brand new SCWD (never used in the box) Brand new 6 feet long actinic bulbs Ice Cap ballast (660) MKR calcium reactor needing a new pump UV sterilizer I probably have other stuff that I am not using and could part with, let me know if you are looking for anything in particular, my wife calls my "tank room" Ali baba's magic cavern (laugh) there seems to be something for everyone and everything. How old is the Ph Meter? working well?
  5. looking for a portable Ph meter with probe such as milwaukee on pinpoint type that retail for about $80. Would also trade with some of my corals.
  6. If it is the weird guy I am thinking, it might be worth a fortune some day!
  7. You mean trade you my new one for your used one? Sounds like a great deal! Does the Volleyball come with Zoo frags? (it should have a few polyps growing on it by now..)
  8. Zoos dangers Pretty close John, not bad ! 9090 ng = 9.09 microg (ug) If you read further in the link sent by Twit they write that 5 microg (ug) is considered to be lethal in human see quote below "Agent Properties Palytoxin is the most toxic natural product known, it is estimated that the lethal dose for a human is less than five micrograms. Supplies are extremely limited as it is only found at low concentrations in the corals that do contain it, although this may change if a microbial source is found. This is of course an average number not taking in consideration any supersensitivity or reactivity of some individuals. Thus some people could be affceted very severly at sub-lethal doses. probably found in our tanks It's obvious that using gloves and eye protection when manipulating Zoos could avoid serious adverse effects. Certainly would make sense. And I agree posting such information close to the tank would be a good reminder of the dangers but could also help keep curious adventurer away from the tank. there is another famous link on RC about a reefer who lost his dog to Zoos. You might already know about it, quite scary and sad! http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=158730 Thanks Twit
  9. I need a Ca reactor rated for at least 250 Gal. My old one has a broken pump I don't seem to be able to replace it/make it work again. Would trade as well ...
  10. Got a brand new one never used, make me an offer!
  11. Thanks John. I am now in the terminal , so good luck! If by any bad luck the Tank crashes, there should be at least 2-3 Quarantine tanks for corals and fishes to survive. David might need help going fishing! But let's not talk about the worst case scenario! P
  12. Thanks a lot to both. Hopefully everything will run smoothly.
  13. Would anyone be comfortable giving their phone number as emergency contact. I have a friend taking care of my tank for the next 3 weeks. I'll be away in Europe. The tank is on auto pilote and he is nice enough to go and check it every few days. In case something major would happen (tank crash, skimmer overflowing etc..) the poor guy would have no clue as to where to start. So if he could call someone who could give him advice in case of problem that would be great. Let me know. I am leaving Wed morning and it would ease his anxiety (and mine) if he knew there is someone out here who can help. THanks Philippe
  14. Brian, here is a bump and a little help. Nice Brain coral. How big is the Monti? Is the "tongue coral" a plate? I am interested in some of your corals (especially the 3 listed above) and I am sure other people are interested in some other stuff (live rock and fish, that I don't need). Maybe a deal could be worked out if enough people are interested in small things. So eventhough you want to sell this as a whole, if you could indicate how much aprox for each we might be able to get a group of people taking it off your hands and it might add up to what you want for. I took the liberty to use your list and picture to guesstimate how much each piece would cost, hoping this would help interested people. Here is how I would list things. let me know if that is how you would break it down if you would get to that point! LR : 45/60 lbs for $175? 1- red Brain ?) very pretty (size?) $70 (see pict above) 2- Big colony of red plating Monti (about 15 inch accross?) $95 (see pict above) 3- Big Xmas tree coral ( keeps growing like nuts) $65 or $10/frag 4- green button pollyps rocks They are popping up all over. $35 for rocks with 20-30 or more polyps 5- Green mushrooms $10 per mushroom (about 10 of them?) 6- 3 anemones - 2 condis $10- each and one long tentacle which is moving around alot lately. $35 7-9" long tongue coral - $65 8- and one small leather- $20 9-Candy Cane? $25- 10-Gorgonian ? $40 there are some other frags here and there in the tank attached to rock Total Corals ~ >$500 Fishes 11-three different clowns, Orange Osicllaris $15 each, B&W oscillaris $35 12-2 engineer gobbies $12 each , both for $20 13-leopard wrasse $35 14-Blue Damsel $5 15- two Blue Chromis $5 each Total Fishes ~135 LR+ Coral+ Fishes ~$800 get all of it for $450 (almost 1/2 off) This has to go this week-end or early next week. Thanks for helping!
  15. Kris , thanks, it was a pleasure to meet you and Mike. I am glad I was able to help you along. All this little help added up end up making a huge difference at the end, and it shows that as a community we can achieve great things with little energy if everyone speaks the same language. If we can all work toward leaving a great legacy behind us, the future in front of us certainly looks more rosie. Hit me in 6 months when everything in my tank is overgrown and frags are begging to find new homes...I'll be the one thanking you...(laugh) Goof luck with your tank until then, and see you at the metings!
  16. Brian, you might get more people interested in a package deal if you list all of what you have and what you asking for... Photos always help too...
  17. I asked Steve how he figured out how many frags to bring to an event like that and he said that based on ticket sales he had brought just enough to sell out. He did not want to have to ship home another box of stressed out frags. I guess he calculated about the right amount. Maybe if there is another show next year there could be an option to hold off some corals (through online shopping) until a specific time for people who cannot make it to the event early enough to have first choice. People could put a deposit down so that if they don't show-up the vendor does not completely lose.
  18. For a first event, this was a success. YEs small and mostly SPS. But some of the corals where truely unusual and rarely seen in local tanks. But because they were rare that also meant the prices were above your average standard frag. I bought nothing but was lucky to win one of the raffle. However, because of the medium size room, this was a perfect place to interact and learn more about many corals, some of them I had never seen. I also stopped at Rose City Aquarium and they donated us 6 20 Gal Tanks for our tank for teachers projects. It was great to be able to give some to Jay and Bob/Brandy for teh Southern people. This project just need sponsors and some help with lights +++++ follow the threads... and get involved:D

    Sicko

(backtotopic) I have not seen the movie, but I have seen and read lots of reaction. Both the typical I won't see MM crap, which is not very helpful and the one from people who have actually seen it. Interestingly while this thread seems to ahve taken a "partisan" turn, I have talked with people from both sides of the blue/red line who have found something worth discussing in that movie. So the fact that it does create a discussion and generate passion indicates to me that there is something worth about that movie, would it be even just to use at cocktail parties. Whether you like MM or not is irrelevant here. The healthcare system is though. I have read the entire thread and I am amazed at so much passion leading to division. Lots of inacuracy used to build the division even deeper. Lots of myths perpetuated. Not much interest in looking at what we need to do as people to make this work. Its obvious it won't happen from the top if the masses just let it happen and spend more time at each others throat than trying to make it work. Keeping this counrty divided has been the best success story of the leaders of this country to continue laughing at us watching us building thicker and thicker walls between each others based on meaningless little details. Missing the big picture. I come from France, a Democracy (in the true definition of the word). We have socialized medicine over there, yes we do pay higher taxes for it. And I know the word "socialized" is frightening for some people. But for now just thing of that word as meaning (open to everyone). We do not have the most expensive equipment in the world in every hospital, but we do have the top of the line to achieve meaningfull procedures and save life. We are pioneer and leaders in Cardiology and heart disease (the number one killer in the Western world), and many other disorders. Our administartive cost is minimum because everyone that comes for treatment is elligible so we do not need a special Insurance checking "administration" to make sure the care will be covered (by the way that cost in the US is estimated to represent 30% of your bill-just to keep in mind..). When I go to the Dr. I actually go to the Dr. office, not a hospital or a clinic, a real office where he or she greets me and spend the visit with me evaluating the situation. I do not get a random Dr. each time, I do get MY Dr. every visit and we know each other. She actually has known me since I was 2 year old and she knows exactly what has been wrong with me since then. If she thinks she can treat me she tells me what is wrong, and ask me to call her within a week or so if this involves treatment. If she cannot take care of my ailment she refers me to a colleague, someone she trusts and knows will be the best to adress the issue. I do not live in a small country town, I live in the city of lights with some other 10 million or so "Freedom People". My Dr. gets visits from big Pharma to her office , but what does she care, the government only reimbursed the generic prescriptions, she won't get a cut from it, she just cares I take the one that will do the job. It is true that when I go to some of the hospitals they do not look like much, at least not like Bill Gates just invested 300 Million $ in them. But because they are modest in appearance , they can spend more $$ on the contents and the quality of the contents. And inside they do look quite modern indeed. Because it is socialized, it means that whatever your needs or whatever your treatment is, if it is affecting your health it will be covered. You won't have to decide between getting your medication or your food stamp. I don't know what a Co-Pay means. Now my story, could be told the same way by about every person leaving overthere and needing healthcare. It is not an exception it is the norm. My very good friends do live in Vancouver BC (Canada), what is fascinating is that their story is actually very similar to the one I just told. The last thing they would want would be to have to be hospitalized in the US. Because a free night in the ER in Vancouver, costs $5,000 on this side of the border. Now before criticizing "socialize" medicine, can you say the same about your health care? I did not say it was a perfect system, it does cost a lot (but honestly, its worth it.) but it does not cost as much as what I have to pay here and I don't think my Dr. does even know I exist. I am obviously here and I am not complaining about being here. I love it here, well I love certain things here to be truely honest. I love the ideology. The idea that everything is possible. The immense beauty of preserved nature in this incredible land, and the strong will of people to preserve nature and make a difference in their environment. That's why I joined this club, to participate in reef acticities that would promote saving the reef and not deplete it. I believe that the people on this site, who have fallen in love with their reef do have this passion within. The passion of conservacy, of preventing bad things from happening and taking action to limit our destructive impact on nature. The way we treat each other as humans and our will to make this a better place will affect everything we touch. If we can put aside our political believes and look at what we could achieve by putting our heads and energy together, the true strength of this country would be phenomenal. As far it goes today, this great country that used to be number one in the world for many things is now starting to crumble at too many levels. Health care, Research, Science, Environment/pollution, Trust...the list keeps getting longer. And don't look at the US press to find that out (you could but that way you won't think its either neo conservative or Far left) look at the international press. See what others see and what others say. If the people do not understand that the elitist capitalism that has been enforced here is just destroying all the fertile ground on which this country once rose to the top, we will continue toward worse and mediocrity. There is a way to keep a democratic capitalist system thriving as long as you don't suffocate it. The US have become the joke around the world when it comes to healthcare. Yes 37th in the world, that is absolutely the international ranking. Is it acceptable? How is it possible that such a great country, such a powerful and rich country could be so far behind? That is really the question? How did it happen and what can we do about it? The issues cannot really be money can it?. I mean if poor countries like France can pull it off, what is stopping the US from doing better than that? So what is missing...? Maybe if everyone would start talking to each other in our communities instead of AT each other we could remove the layers of dirt masking the real problem and adress it as a nation and not let the Millionaires running for Office decide for us. This is a great place to start, but who is willing to open their eyes and talk not bark! Is it time to think about having a real democracy and truely understand what one is? But maybe I said too much...If you do not hear from me ever again, go look for me in Guantanamo Bay...(scary)
  20. Yes Kris absolutely, I have plenty for a big family. Just LMK
