  1. Thanks Dennis. Interesting here is the wikipedia version of it. I guess "bridgetown" and of course Rose City are also accepted.
  2. Learn something everyday. Where did that originate from?
  3. Tank What kind of lights do you have on it? Is the bubble only on one side?
  4. Still available ? Sent you PM
  5. well what Can I say Dennis, nobody's perfect. I married a Scottish girl...you know if it ain't Scottish it's C*** (whistle) (wife) . "Nice Lad "was also an option but too English maybe. You know the Scottish and English Rivalry...not to mention French-English...
  6. Thanks Thanks Brandon, this was a great deal, and I do love those 20K in my tank much better than I expected. I can actually see colors again. I thought I had become colour blind!(laugh) It was a pleasure dealing with you Brandon, this is my 3, 4th? X? transaction with RG and each one has jusst been flawless and great. I have to say once you get to know Brandon you have to love his enthusiasm for the hobby. A very nice Chap!
  7. If it does not say reef safe, I usually do a little more research either through articles, books and eventually do liek you are doing post and see everyone's experience witha particular fish, or read previous posts and experiences. I usually find quite a spectrum justifying or condemning the creatures. It then become an issue of balance as far as whether your fish will find its needs met by teh specific diet you are providing or if it will start looking for alterantive source which could include some undesirable species , including corals, inverts, pods etc... Experience...and weighing out the risks
  8. Miles, I do research at OHSU and we do collaborate with the Zebrafish's group including Monte's lab at UVO. If there is a dedicated group (even only 4-5) I can help you get this tour a reality. I would just let it slide for a few days until enough people have had time to see this thread (I just saw it today myself). And then I can directly contact them and help organizing a tour. From PI to PI I am confident they will be agreable to the idea. Probably the shorter the tour the better (30 min to 1hr) as researchers don't really like to spend hours and hours away from their burning projects. However we could check with them to see what they would have in mind. Other issues with research group is the concern about PETA, and they do not like to open-up their lab to strangers. So if it is educational for this group it might aactually work, although the idea of getting bunch of info released to teh public might not enchante them greatly (to be debated with them) Contact me directly...
  9. That's a great start RG, I can probably come up with some sand.
  10. Well we discussed the idea some more tonight and it would be great to get some teachers or tutors, parents involved and their opinion. Any teachers around, Joel, Dennis? Anyone else? Who else has kids and would get involved with their teacher from their class?(yahoo) We would probably need initially people to participate in 1- Donating/building equipment- Tanks etc.. 2- Donating live stock 3- Tutoring- Help with set-up etc..
  11. John, that is very nice and much in line with some of the ideas we have heard here.
  12. Chat room, preferably after 9:30 pm (after kids asleep):p any day next week
  13. Very impressive AND MASSIVE! makes all of us look like real amateurs...Thanks for sharing Brandon. I'll look forward to the front shots when you post them. Sounds like a must see if you ever go through LV
  14. I can relate to that feeling. I am already there!!DOH!
  15. OK problem solved I got it! Looking good!
  16. It will be tight for me to make the time to come down and meet until September. However, I think we can probably work out a priority list and send it to each other for edit and improvement. Or even post it here for everyone to see and comment/give feedback. We can also give a shot at meeting in the Chat room. I still have nor received your mail Brandy. Did you try sending it to me again?
  17. Tidal, I do like the grant idea a lot. Who are you thinking as far as a source for funding? I'd be more than happy to help work on that idea and with the grant development and writing. The only thing I would worry about kids getting into an adult environement would be if they do get access to the chat forum. But I do see the potential issues with some content of some threads. Something that would need to be adressed either by increasing moderation or just restricting access. I do like the idea of bringing the project to the teachers too. We could actually get different schools interact together and create a network comparing notes , parameters, success stories and not so successful stories, all that linked to awareness about our oceans and our reefs and the fragility of teh ecosystem and the meaning of preservation. Each project could communicate to each other locally and then enlarge the circle as the idea gets picked up. The projects could even become research units that would find out and post basic facts and statistics about what's goind on in the world reef and ocean. What species are threathened, how many disappeared last year, which type of coral is theratened of extinction and should be tried to be aquacultured etc... unlimited options once you get the ball rolling. If teh project moves and evolves we could even think about not just creating a kid section but a PNWMAS Junior new site...(laugh)
  18. Ok so let's get this thing rolling. So let's hear more suggestions...
  19. great idea. Good suggestion Michael! Thanks Chief!
