  1. Not time to give up! Darren, ok so you did get the bad boys and I guess you do not know if you have eggs or not right? So how about you inspect the monti for eggs. If you do no see eggs wait to see if you have more damage on the one that showed damage first. I guess a week or so? If you see eggs or damage continue, I am not sure you need to treat very long based on the thread you linked, and you might be able to do it just in big container filled with solution decsribed in the Borneman thread. If that is not an option I have an QT completely ready with just a few snails and crabs that I'll be happy to use for your Caps. We can just treat the entire tank it's only 10 GAL. I think the Borneman thread listed an alternate treatment using solution X + Lugol blabla.. and it seemed like they were just treating a few times 10-15 minutes and then shaking the nudis dead. They were also saying that they were treating only the Nudis though (not the eggs) I think.. but maybe we can experiment.worth trying. Other solution; if eggs are obvious, I have a dremel and we could just cut off the piece with eggs and discard and hope that is the only spot... There might also be other solutions out there, not time to give up yet! You can wait and see, decide later. Up to you! don't let the bed bug bite, but if they bite....!
  2. Well we would have to make sure it is not too CHEEEZZZZY...DOH! You know kids... (laugh) Could have the top 10 list by kids, you know, top 10 things I like/dislike to help with the tank, the top 10 coolest fish/invert/corals......etc...in the tank Even a top 10 list of safe things your kid can help you around the tank and top 10 dangers when you kid is around.... Yeah, good idea Brandy, bring it up to the next meeting! What we really need is a clown..not the tomato type though (clap) Jay? is that in your job description (laugh)
  3. Looking good Brandon. Once you get the tank going you'll have a nice contrast between the dark stand and the lit tank and with the "art deco " lights you got, the entire thing will be the talking piece of your place!:p Good work and outstanding display of patience to get this project done right. I can tell already you won't miss your 120 once the cube is up and running (clap)
  4. Scary! So Darren did you try the Oomed treatment? Did it work. Let us know! Hope it solves the problem! I 'll be watching my Monti Caps
  5. Trip in the air Darren, Dennis, Scoot and Jon, Josh might be coming up Sat more about it tomorrow. In case we all ask for the same thing and he has limited frags, I'll work out a deal with you guys. PM me for details.
  6. Coming To PDX? Any chance you are coming to Portland this week or soon? I am interested in quite a few " purple m. capricornis with blue polyps, yellow w/ blue tips acro, A. microcladis purple, A. kimbeensis yellow w/ blue tips, false superman, blue staghorn acro, pink w/ purple polyps S. hystrix (birdsnest), green birdsnest, green acro (about 10 or so) of the one you listed. Is there more? LMK TX
  7. Definitely!! And I can even think of much more interesting targets for you to practice on...(enforcer)
  8. Ryan, you are heading in the right direction but I think you are missing a few points. The glow fishes were designed for a research purpose, not for entertaining. The problem is when people eager to look at profit before anything else take these concepts outside of what they were designed for and release them to the public. It is not making the glow fish that is wrong it is the intent to use them for another purpose solely based on a personal gain not intended to benefit society. As far as not messing with "gods work" it's a little too late for that, and a lot of people would probably be dead or never born if it was not for scientist finding ways to prevent disease, design vaccines and keeping people alive that would have been eliminated by "god's " natural selection otherwise. We are all mutants some of us kept alive artificially through drugs, devices, interventions- Haven't you seen X-men yet?(laugh) The main problem with all of this is the same one Einstein faced when he realised how nuclear energy could be put to a good or a bad use and whether it was worth the risk. It's the arrogant @@# (censored) who think they know it all and are not afraid of playing recklessly with the delicate equilibrium of nature that make the invention/idea a mistake. It's like shooting the seal hoping it will solve the problem, (how many will you have to shoot before you shift strategy?) Maybe there is a reason the seals are where they are, and that should be the first problem to solve. Address the cause not the symptoms. (Rim)
  9. Awesome Pics. You scored big time!(rock2)
  10. Glowing Human How come on! Green pigs are cute. And soon how would you like your MATE to glow in the dark...(censored) ..wouldn't that be sexy!(huh) (backtotopic) Seriously the benefit of GFP in research is tremendous and while some people are trying to make a few bucks on the side, we are developping new tools to image tumors , cancer growth and detection of specific cells. What if we could all be "engineered" to make GFP but it would only get activated as soon as a tumor would start growing, thus the tumor and only the tumor would glow and alert you before any symptoms would send you to the Dr. Would you do it? (daz) The other advantage is that all tumors could be seen and efficacy of treatment could actually be monitored almost day by day.
  11. If any of you make it to the PDX meeting this week-end, I am up for a sand swap (see post in the meetings section!)
  12. Anyone else bringing a cup or 1/2 cup of sand on Sunday?
  13. A sad Truth Piero, yes there is some of that but also keep in mind that some people just live in their own reality and will not change their mind even when it will blow in their face. Take the example of smoking (flame) . We now have the exact mechanisms and agents that cause cell damage and result in lung cancer. Yet many people still smoke and some of them even refute the scientific data as propaganda by the "environmentalist". I had to seat an entire flight to the East coast listening to this guy trying to convince me how smoking was actually better for you.DOH! (threaten) DOH! (threaten) The bottom line is education and acurate information is what we need. Unfortunately we have entered a very odd period where made-up facts and reality are now mixed together. Everyone is a specialist of some sort, and unless you truely check their credentials many of those so called specialists (show cased on TV) that are believable are actually complete ignorant on the topic. The worst things are the docu drama which are polluting the media and make you believe you are getting accurate facts when they are quite often very subjective and thus inaccurate. Even an inconvenient truth is full of mistakes that scientific have picked on, and that is why it sends the "non believers" ballistic! This, plus the arrogance of our politicians just shows how easily we are manipulated and do exactly what the executive branch is hoping we do, divide ourselves and argue against each other without even knowing the entire truth of the arguments. As long as we stay divided out of believes and can't get unified under one common thread we wil lose to those who would like us to stay divided, ignorant, hypnotized and controlable. This thread is a perfect illustration how it works and how again they win! So we have to hope that the common sense will prevail and that whatever the issue is, the path with the least potential negative impact is what "we" as a species we decide to support. Of course whose "common sense" are we talking about here...(nutty) some would argue that as we destroy ourselves and reduce our genetic pool, we will eventually disappear but the planet will survive, leaving space for another species to take other through natural selection. After all Ants deserve a turn at the kingdom they already outnumber us...(laugh)
  14. Microbubbles did decrease significantly overnight on their own. So maybe patience will pay off!
  15. Start Over!! If you know exactly what you don't want (sounds that it is what you have right now). Just start all over and do what you really want, rock by rock , snail by snail. The satisfaction of doing it right is unsurpassed. Unhappiness is not an acceptable alternative. Let me know if I can help you unload some of your life stock, I'll be happy to let some of it grow , vacation in my tank while you decide if you want to put it back or not!
  16. Sean, good question, whom should we believe? Whom can we trust for info when everything could be easily manipulated and fabricated? In either direction!!(flame) Thank God we finally found those WMD!!DOH! And maybe even more of interest is the following statement given to Frank Rich (New York Times) in an August 2001 interview with Carl Rove " We are about to enter the biggest revolution on how the information is used, watch us carefully we will soon create YOUR reality" I'll let you do the thinking and come to your own conclusions...(yes Britney Spears and Paris Hilton are siamese twins separated at birth with each only 1/2 the brain of the other) Check this one in response to your question: A firm called planktos.com is getting a lot of airplay for their bid to create a carbon offset product based on fertilizing the ocean. In certain parts of the ocean, surface waters already contain most of the ingredients for a plankton bloom; all they lack is trace amounts of iron. For each 1 atom of iron added in such a place, phytoplankton take up 50,000 atoms of carbon. What could be better? There are plenty of reasons to be skeptical, there are as many if not more to be really worried. So it's really a question whether it is better that you do nothing and you were wrong or do something that could make things better but you were wrong. Which one would be worse for your kids, for your grand kids? Do you prefer to find a toilet clean when you enter the bathroom or a dirty one? How about the beach? The air you breath? (scratch)
  17. Really? That is interesting and hopeful. I was going to take things apart and start resealing questionable junctions but I'll wait a few weeks and see if the saltcreep seals it...
  18. Siskiou you are supposed to play with water out of the tank only on hot days when you can wear your bathing suit!. Like today. (wife) ! Did the skimmer pump disconnect trick twice, good thing I have tiles. Still managed to ruin two carpets . Also had a falty RO water shut off valve when filling up my RO water tank, only found out the next morning... I am used to turn on the fans and sponge up the floor at all ours of the day! I am preparing for a new career in flood response cleaning. DOH! The hardest part is always how to break the news to your wife...when she finds you with a soaking towel in your hand. (laugh)
  19. Exciting! Wait is finally over Brandon! Looks greaT! What are you going to do with the extra stuff that won't go to the new cube?
  20. Siskiou, you preceeded me. Thanks! I ended up going to one of the LFS in PDXD and found them for $2.69. Cheaper and cleaner than a box + a stamp. Anyway it's all in the tank , connected (Via Brute FORCE (laugh) )and working now. Thanks a lot for the help, the offers. I was goint to post, but you were faster. Now I need to deal once more with microbubbles, not sure what happened. Thanks again
  21. Thanks for the info and the warning Darren. Very interesting info. I'll keep my eyes open! Hope all is well in yoour tank now!
  22. Lucky Dog! I'll have to wait for a rainy day! Glad to hear it's good. It has been mildly shot down by several reviewers. But what do they know? I am sure they have probably never read the original Stan Lee comics and do not appreciate the complexicity of Peter Parker and how much he is part of Spider Man...etc...blablabla
