    Zoos!!!

Pretty Nice Miles, the first ones look a lot like these ones: And here is a better pic of that green one that I just found on that small rock
  2. I managed to set one up using BRUTE FORCE (rock2) I just need one more 3/4 " connector to finish my set-up.
  3. I agree with ReefHut. I was planning for no flood/spills after carefully setting things up as slowly as I could. The first thing I did though was to tile the floor "just in case". I have flooded about 5 times (3 pretty big ones) now in about 4 months each time was a different and unexpected problem.. It was more expensive up front but I am glad I had tile. I can't imagine the cost of changing carpet or vinyl plus the mess!
  4. Thanks Nyles, $180??? HOW MANY MILES do YOU HAVE? (scratch) the pieces I am interested are just worth $1.79 each (see top of post) they are the 3/4 " connectors, I have the other pieces , just need to connect them without being a WIMP (at least if I want respect from this crowd) (whistle) . If you can bring them this week-end and it's not a big hassle, I'll be happy to buy them or trade or (owe you a free trade when I am fully stocked). Otherwise looks like siskiou has it as well.
  5. Not too rich in corals yet but... I have a 40 W Reef Life UV Sterilizer, and 2 brand new (still in package) glass mag-float (a medium and a large).
  6. So what do you want for the 3/4 "? can you bring them to PDX when you come up? I am still deliberating about your pump BTW. Will decide tonight if it's still available!
  7. Thanks for the Chaeto Matt! I could have used the basketball size (naughty) but gas cost was definitely worth a smaller helping but shorter drive.(laugh) Aquaticus is actually quite nice. They have a nice selection of stuff , fishes, inverts, sps, LPS, some zoos and some softies too and are very friendly. Frag tank as well with some nice pieces. Worth checking out!
  8. Nyles, good idea trying local, you never know!!(laugh) DOH! (laugh) DOH! (laugh) How old is it? (nutty) How loud is it? (scary)
  9. I'll bring a cup of sand from my tank, if anyone else does so , we can mix it all together and each take a cup back to our systems to increase biodiversity. Of course if you have any current problem in your tank, to avoid contamination, you might want to wait until your tank is clean again! (laugh) Anybody else interested?
  10. Sand swap I'll bring a cup of sand from my tank, if anyone else does so , we can mix it all together and each take a cup back to our systems to increase biodiversity. Of course if you have any current problem in your tank, to avoid contamination, you might want to wait until your tank is clean again!(laugh) Anybody else interested?
  11. Exactly Siskiou, that online shipping is getting old quickly (wife) . I'll be happy to pay for the shipping and the cost (or trade if there is anything you are looking for and let's say I may have by chance...), or if you know someone planning to go to the meeting on the 21st in PDX I can wait as well. PowderTang, thanks for the tip, in case I can't find it on this board, I'll go to the LFS, I am sure they can order it too if they don't have it. One question I have though is how do you connect the different parts together i.e the ball socket nosle to a Y or to the connector ? Do you need a special tool or brute force? I currently have just one nosle on one side and trying to split into 2 so that my flow goes in 2 directions. I have the Y connector but can't even insert the long nosle into it. IS there a trick? (scratch)
  12. It is to attach a ball socket tubing. Item E on the following link. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=4090&Ntt=fittings&Ntk=All&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Np=1&N=2004&Nty=1
  13. Anyone has a couple of those for trade or sale?
  14. So many choices Agree with above. Try Powell's they have used books too. I also like a very basic and easy to start title: The New Marine Aquarium " by Michael Paletta it can guide through most common mistakes made when starting. One step above: "Natural Reef Aquariums" by J Tullock and for more details/advanced: "The Reef Aquarium" by Julian Sprung and C. Delbek Complement the books with online info as suggested by Reefgeek. Odds are pretty good that someone is doing exactly what you are doing and asking some of the questions you may have on one of the forums. Also don't be shy asking questions aways. Most people will be happy to give you suggestions and opinions.(laugh) Welcome back!
  15. waiting for Round 2 (laugh) -"Return of the RBTA". Or do you think it's "Gone with the Flow" (laugh)
  16. Great Ideas Piero, Lowman, Reefgeek. Great ideas. I think you guys came up with a great suggestion. I do like the idea of having mainstream and no so mainstream ideas mixed together and bringing the information to the "not so aware" consummer. Without going to extremes, if you look at the mission of this club, the notion of conservation, preservation and education is very important. I do think that having someone savy about those issues that could bring the information to the public at the Market including the challenges we face with this hobby , pros and cons, dangers and threats would be a great contribution for this club. I would suggest that Piero put together some of that info and work with someone from the PNWMAS board to have the info represented without being militant. I like reefgeek's dilemma about what is ecologically more friendly, ordering online or just locally. Does it make a difference? What does really need to be done to slow done the deterioration of our reefs? Where is the urgency? Can we do something as a group? Can we diminish the impact by the ways we practice the hobby? Maybe a top 10 list of things you should avoid or should do would be an easy way to convey some of that info, and let everyone think about it. One alternative would be for Piero to get his own booth (maybe a non-profit). Either way would add the event! So I see it as a win win. We can't all be treehuggers, but we sure do share a common hobby hopefully with the same philosophical understanding of what's at stakes. As far as rhetoric on the threads, they make things more interesting as long as they are constructive. That's the secret ingredient (laugh) Spread the wealth!
  17. Bulbs What brand? Model? any more info on the spectrum ?
  18. Amazing precision and planning indeed. It just illustrates how a great and methodical plan can lead to an amazing result. Monumental project. The island and the aquarium should probably feature in the "1000 things to see before you die" (at least on my list). So definitely with you on the road trip Michael! This reminds me of that diving reef tank that they plan to build in Chicago (I believe there was a thread here not too long ago ), although the Okinawa Aq seems grandiose. (drooler)
