  1. Great shots and beautiful tank. Amazing recovery. Beside the flatworms, How does the tank look now?
  2. Giant Bali Xenia, that would be nice, and I'll definitely be in the market for any kind of Zoos. I used to have about 20 different one and a full section of my tank just covered with it. I plan to do the same with the new tank. So any Zoos lover think of me when you get ready to frag a few polyps.
  3. Thanks oldbrownies. That is most generous of you. I will remember that when I am also ready to populate my tank! But first let's get that live sand do its wonders ! Dsoz. You might want to keep your sand for now and wait until you see the light after the tunnel..(laugh) Philippe
  4. Ahhh! That explains the difference in coloration. I Like the look under the PC. But are the one under the MH growing faster or is it equal?
  5. Sand exchange Thanks for the info Jay. I am looking forward to the meeting Would anyone be interested in bringing 1/2 cup of their live sand at the meeting that we will mix all together in order to increase biodiversity in our tanks and share back. If you just want to share your sand without taking any back that would be fine too. I am just looking into fertilizing my sand bed which is now in its infancy, and in the past this has been the most rewarding way to do it. I have seen all sorts of pods, worms, sea stars, snails and other critters suddenly appearing in my tank after doing this multiple time with other reefers and never got any problem or undesirable creatures in the tank (that I know of) Of course, and this is probably commom sense to all but If you have concerns about any bad "contaminants" currently in your sand or tank, you might want to wait until all is normal before sharing your sand (at least with me).
  6. Really cool idea. Not sure it would be viable either. But would love to see it happen if they can pull it off . Can you imagine the kind of light they would need to sustain growth of their corals ? (if that is the plan).
  7. I like it too! But you forgot to mention the (blue)cheese Gromit DOH!
  8. Awesome Rock! I love those. Thanks A bunch. What kind of lights do you have on those pics?
  9. What is the Mission of this group? As a newcomer who used to be in a similar group on the East Coast I see a lot of concerns where there should not really be any. I think Steve captured the best the essence of the hobby and why people belong to such a club. Yes, most of the info is available somehere on the net whether it is on RC or other sources. But being able to do the intellectual or brainless exchange locally whether it is through a conversation on this site, or at a group meeting over a few drinks is the most precious and attractive aspect of being a "club". Knowing that someone around here might have the knowledge/skills to help with a specific issue or problem is a driving force for moving forward in the hobby. Like some others have said it might even push you where you never imagined you would. There are so many talents within this group that the diversity is what makes the interaction so much more worth it. Back in NC we used to alternate our reef meetings by going once to a club member's house (trading and discussing set-up, lifestock, workshop, college basket ball etc...) and the following time or maybe every 2-3 times we would go to a LFS. Usually we would use the LFS as a place for a short workshop on fragging, lights, DIY projects, skimmers etc...On top of trading frags macro, fish and sand between reefers, the LFS would also offer an insentive by fragging some corals. Everyone wanting frags would chip in a few dollars to cover the cost of the wholesale price of the colony, and the LFS would frag it out. There were also some avid divers that would organise a yearly dive on a shipwreck and those of course were awesome. I have to say that this format worked well with that group which was smaller than this group. I think everyone gained something LFS , reefers and the club. There was obviously a selction with regard to LFS as not all of them had the same philosophy of the groups mission. The groups mission by the way was to increase the awareness of the reefing community with regard to coral genocide and promote the support of propagated corals while boycotting any wild coral collection. A handfull of LFS did fit in this category and we only dealt with them. And as such they were truely part of our 'community" and I believe both world benefited from each other in a synergistic manner. On a personal note I have had to organise seminars and lectures for a scientific community of thousands interested individuals, at times we had a full house (a few hundred ), at other times only a handfull showed up. When we advertise for food, we typically see up to 10x more people showing up for a similar event. This is normal and those were professionals. For this group what you consider a low turn out (estimated at 10% by someone up there) seems pretty good actually given your demographic in your population (families with children, geographic location), very focus topic , time and day of event. I also think many of the people in this group are perfect candidates for speaking and educating others, on so many things, the more informal, the better. I think the energy of this group is within and if a solid core leads the way, more will follow. I would think that the social appeal (low key, food (bluecheese of course), drinks, time for interaction, putting a face behind the PNWAS alias of each member) will contribute greatly to the turn out at any meeting this club will organise. History seems to support this! So this lead me to my question: What is the mission of this club?. And I sense in a way this is what the original poll at the top of this post was hoping to capture? Maybe a topic of discussion that can be extended at a future meeting with this board as a starter. For me, I want to support and interact with any reefer/LFS in this area that promote non destructive reefing and guarantees the survival and protection of many species as a legacy to the future generations before they disappear. At the same time I would hope we could educate others about those issues too. And this starts with discussing it with a few beers (wine and bluechees too) around someone's tank whether home or LFS.
  10. Mag 9.5 Dippin 61. I am interested in the MAG 9.5. I'll try to PM you again (wife) . Otherwise PM me!
  11. I did not think so. DOH! Rich, I was just kidding about the juice. Still think the idea is pretty cool Does anyone else have a used manifold somewhere in a drawer gathering dust but in working condition? Everyone should have 2 manifolds in their home the first one to grow nice healthy corals in your tank and I am interested in the second one, the one that grows corals in My tank...Anyone ?(scratch)
  12. Shrooms too? ReefStar Way To GO (rock2) Star saves the day ladies and gentleman (clap) and 5 happy reefers. Oh so are you also fragging that nice blue shroom, me like those a lot. They also grow very fast when they start liking the tank. If you have extra shroom by the time its Xenia harvest time, I would definitely be delighted to relieve your tank from one too many shrooms Have you tried to actually force reproduce that one ( you know the infamous mixer receipe) (laugh) ?????
  13. Bubble Humm Juicy CO2, sounds delicious! I am sure the fishies like it!(clap) Did you keep the juice in the container?(laugh) That sounds quite creative where did you get the idea? I'll have to check it out when I come get the Caulerpa... for which I need to ..figure out my plan.
  14. Xenia Andy, this looks like the long stem Xenia on your picture, or is it the Pom Pom Xenia? JeffP and dsoz, this thing grows like crazy once it starts to take off , you might actually consider using the chain saw if it ever decides that your tank is a pretty good home. Soooooo how about whomever gets it grows it and frags it to the other two?(naughty)
  15. Oh I see, yes that seems nice. I realise that actually need a new manifold now, not just the solenoid. Do you have the model with the bubble counter? What do other people have/like?
  16. So you are the one who Pm'd him 49+ time between 2:11 am and 4:27 am ...that explains the full mail box...that is pathetic. But it does not explain how you knew I would try to PM him...Unless...Oh I remember you now..."My name is Inigo Bluecheese YOU KILLEd MY FATHER....prepare to DIE" (laugh)
  17. I am looking for a solenoid ( CO2 regulator) for my Ca reactor. Anybody has an extra one for sale/trade (don't ask for what, I am still unpacking all my stuff and have no idea where is what and what I can trade yet ), or a good deal I can't ignore or a store/site recommendation?
  18. Mag 9.5 You have exceeded your message limit, your box is full! So if still available how old is the Mag 9.5? Thanks
  19. yes Sold it is !! and moving to its new home this Friday....(rock2)
  20. Ditto here, although I could probably put it in my quarantine tank until all is good in the main tank (whistle)
  21. Thanks dsoz! I have not tried the Chaeto, I have just heard of it, but have not done my homework on it yet. I have used Caulerpa in my fuge in the past and it really worked well for me, I used to just keep an extra tank with Macro algae and critters only that would serve as quarantine/aclimation tank. Would anyone elaborate on the reasons for going Cheato vs Caulerpa? Rich, regarding the sand, Fanta seas does not have anymore southdown, they refered me to Advanced in Salem. I could not get through to Advanced on the phone so I am not sure how much they charge. And not sure I have the time to go down there either. Dr Foster and Smith sells a 30lb bag for $22.99 + $10 for shipping. Maybe the way to go?
  22. Thanks H20 I'll take the Caulerpa. For the sand, Anyone you recommend in the SW area? I went to Aquaticus and they were almost clueless about it. I have heard of upscales but have not checked them out yet. I am going to need quite a bit to make a 5 inch deep sand bed in my 200 Gal. Would online prices be much cheaper? Has anyone done the comparison? I'd rather help the local LFS if it is comparable.
  23. New to the PNWMAS and just starting my tank after waiting and waiting for the last 2 years. Anyone knows where to find Southdown in the Portland Area? I used to buy it at HD in North Carolina, but could not find it here. Also if anyone has some live sand and Caulerpa to give away, that would be great. Needless to say once the tank is ready, any generous frag gifts will be received with a celebration. (clap) Thanks
