  2. pssst... come on Sean.. bigger tank.. basement sump. come.. come to the dark side Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  3. i would go half as much rock. if not 2/3. i have your sand Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  4. sure it could be done..but i dont really NEED it to be done.. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  5. yeah sure. if i get motivated ill try and dry it out. the chunky stuff right? Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  6. any good hydroponic store will have 1/2", 3/4" and 1" uniseal style bulkheads. they are actually thick grommets. they work just fine. I have NEVER found actual uniseal brand seals anywhere in town. uniseal warehouse has them cheap and pretty fast shipping. cheers Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  7. yeah i got their email and i was like... duh, why didnt i think of that. Its weird though, their USB meter must have some voltage converting chip in it or something?? i have thus reached the limit of my understanding of electrical currents. which is ok, i still know the par readings throughout my tank and adjusted my lighting schedule to provide a Daily Light Interval to match shallow coral reef in sprin g and fall (16 mol photons/day). which is about 350 par for 13 hours. 8. i have about 10 lbs of carib sea special grade i probably will not use. full disclosure: its wet, and the tank had ich about 7 months ago so it may contain ich cycts so the safe bet would be to dry it out in the oven first. I also have a mound of sand in the garage that the cats found... and ummm, it is carib sea "chunky" variety. Now with 800% more ammonia!! . Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  9. from my research the special grade is about as big as you can go and still keep sand fauna happy. Not sure about the bristle worms but I can do without them. Even if your flow vectors are high in the tank, rock work can deflect flow in a way to disturb the sand. One of my closed loops points up at a 45 degree angle from the floor of the tank and hits a rock ridge about 20" away. The sand (even the special grade) gets blown around from the currents coming off the rock. Sounds like most sand would be fine for you, maybe just go by color?? Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  10. oh yeah. where is the handheld meter? Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  11. the force is indeed strong with that acid trip milli. "buy me" " your tank is not stable" "buy me.. its stable enough" "it is not, now forget it" "buy me, just test more" i finally had to run out of the store screaming. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  12. yes.. special grade.. that is what i have in thr new tank.. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  13. if you plan on lots.of sps.. and thus flow.. go.with the bigger grain sand. i have the red sea argonite... i think? its larger grain but the wrasses still dive under for cover at night and its not like crushed coral that traps a lot of debris. if you have lots of flow.. the really fine sand blows everywhere. bare bottom is a thing but half bare bottom... looks kind of amateur Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  14. yeah i would like to compare if its around. im like 8 minutes from cuttlefish.. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  15. you want to see murky? this is pro level murky. LOL Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  16. its not that its the fact that my USB port is not a volt meter Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  17. i wouldnt mind yanking some steelheads out of the water . Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  18. 48x24x12 acrylic... Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  19. emailed apoge. no joy on creating your own usb connection. oh well. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  20. so i read on the apoge website that the underwater correction for the 102 sensor is to multiply by 1.08. That is all their handheld sensor does to correct for underwater readings is ad 8% more par. Interestingly though, their high end par meter requires a 31% correction! I need to find out if their software will do a time weighted average for an individual location. That way i can tell when to lower the halides after the rapid 15% par decline in the first 3 months. Sanjay did a really great test of halide spectrum and intensity loss over time. He uses bulbs for over 3 years!! At any rate, after 5 minutes with the new meter i know i have to raise my lights just a tad. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  21. actually.. that is a great idea... i still have male USB ends from when i made my apex interconnect cables. I just dont know if i want my laptop near my saltwater tank. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  22. Here is the link... https://www.rapidled.com/apogee-sq-120-quantum-sensor/ Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  23. my buddy has a sweet all in one with nice LED lights. He is thinking about upgrading Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  24. yes. it is very very very important. wash it twice! all you need is one spec of 600 grit left on the surface and then you start sanding away with 1k grit. and sanding and sanding and sanding... then MUTHA' TRUCKER! there is one deep groove in a squigly line. It can be done in a single long night. I use a bosh clamp.on sander?? not the velcro discs.. the sander where you clip on the sandpaper. That way you can use the finer grits that are not available in discs. After 1k i use water and dawn while sanding. (400 of its REALLY beat up)>600>1000>1500> light amount of 2000. then heavy and light scratch removal cream on harbor freight buffer. one last bit of advice. if you have a deep scratch, dony just bury the sander into it, you have to feather it out and sand a bigger patch down than just the scratch. If not, it will create a divot that will create a visual anomaly (kind of like a magnifying glass). Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  25. give AGE a shout as well. My new starphire 72x36x24 is gorgeous. I honestly do not know how they silicone so perfect... and it has a PVC bottom. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
