  1. Come on, Bill! There's room right next to your new Ball python tank.
  2. GFO is really effective at lowering phosphate----sometimes too good. As Matty said, you need to be really careful that you don't lower it too quickly. Measure your Phosphate and see where your starting point is. Then use about 1/2 the recommended GFO amount in your reactor. Measure your levels again the next morning. (I had levels drop .18 in 8 hrs once, and that is way too fast.) If it is dropping too quickly, put your reactor pump on a timer so that it is on about 3 hrs per day. This will allow you to maintain some level of phosphate, which your corals do need. I have two of my systems running GFO in a reactor on a timer. One tank stays steady at .08, and the other stays steady at .05. Both tanks have a little bit of algae, but not too much. When I let my phosphates get above .15 or so, the algae starts to bloom.... Good luck!
  3. I noticed this evening that mine is starting to color up too. It has a light blue edge to new growth at the base. I'm also starting to see a little bit of green on the branches.
  4. My T5 tank is much more white than my LED tanks, but the orange and reds look better without all of the blue, in my opinion. You might get used to a whiter look.
  5. That ATI fixture is awesome! I'm jealous. The problem with "upgrading" from Ocean Revives to another LED fixture is that almost nothing in LED looks as good as Ocean Revives---even the really pricey fixtures. It's hard to believe since the ORs are so cheap, but it is true, at least to my eyes. I do get the best color in my T5 tank, though. My reds always look better under T5 than LEDs.

    Mollies!

Wow. I didn't know that they could handle full salt.
  7. I don't see the new pictures either. I'm using Firefox on a Mac.
  8. Welcome, Miles! I am in Corvallis too. I'd love to see this project in person.
  9. I have one, and I like it. It does the job of multiple standard pumps.
  10. What lights are you switching to, Son?
  11. Those ATI fixtures that Jeff got recently are pretty sweet.
  12. How would that work? Cut it up like a pizza?
  13. Doesn't your return pump seize up with your Alk at 11, while using 2-part Cody? That's what happened to me when I got over 9 when using the BRS two-part. I had to stay at 8 in order to keep things running longer than a few weeks.
  14. Looks great, Kim! I think that your tank is pretty much filled up. So, when are you going to expand?
  15. Whoa, that tank is seriously packed to the gills. Is that the tank the tricolor you gave me came from? I really love that coral!
  16. Bummer. It happens to all of us! Usually this kind of thing happens to me right before I want to go to bed. Then I end up staying up until 3 a.m. trying to make it right.
  17. I've seen frags double in size in less than two months in this system. Great color too. I was shocked to see that his PAR values were not super high.
  18. Yikes! Please don't DQ me, Holly. I promise I'll name it "Holly's Bad Boy," even if I win. This is one sweet, or should I say, Badx, piece of Tenuis. Nice contrasting colors and great P.E. at all times. Thanks Robert! I've got mine in my frag system. It's a 40 breeder with a 20 gallon sump. It's lit by two Ocean Revive T247s. Flow is provided by a Jebao MP25, and a Waveline Return pump. I'm running an oversized Reef Octopus skimmer, rated for 110 gallons. Hydor ATO. No carbon dosing or chemical media. TMC UV sterilizer rated for 180 gallons. I'm dosing Triton Elementz, which consists of 4 solutions: Alk + trace elements; Ca + trace elements; Mg + trace elements; Mg + dif. trace elements. Dosing is provided by a Kamoer 4-channel dosing pump. I keep Alk at 8 dkh, Ca at 440, and Mg at 1350. Salinity 1.025. I do 5 gallon water changes weekly. I have a yellow tang, a lawnmower blenny and a melanurus wrasse in the tank currently. I feed mysis and nori on alternate days. My nitrates stay around 10-15 ppm and phosphate usually is around .1. I've got Holly's Bad Boy at about 180 PAR right now, and I'll slowly increase it.
  19. From the website: "Reef Tank Pro is a great way track your aquarium on an iOS device. A unique concept allows you to select a tank and work exclusively with a specific task. Other aquarium management apps require you to run multiple tests at the same time where Reef Tank Pro gives you the ability to quickly access a specific tank and perform a specific test. Many common measurements and activities are built into Reef Tank Pro. If a specific activity or measurement does not exist, you can create personalized ones as well as customizable quantities and measurement units. In this way Reef Tank Pro can be used to suit your individual needs. Reef Tank Pro includes the following built-in tests: Ammonia, Calcium, Carbonate Hardness, Magnesium, Nitrate, Nitrite, Phosphate, Specific Gravity (Salinity), Temperature, Total Dissolved Solids and pH Reef Tank Pro allows you to associate a photo with your tank. The app provides the ability to take pictures of your test kits and test results for a more personalized view of your tank(s). Take actual photos of your test results and visually compare them. The Log provides a chronological view of the data you have entered in a scrollable list. Each tank that you add can be viewed independently. In addition to tracking a reef tank, you can track the water parameters of tap water, RODI top off water, saltwater changes, refugiums and freshwater tanks. Stats provides the ability to graph multiple tank entries both independently and for comparison. The graphs support pinch to zoom. Planned improvements of Stats are in the works and will later include a legend and better decimal point calibration."
  20. I use an excellent app for Iphone called Reef Tank Pro for this job. If you are an Android user, I am sure there is something equivalent. http://www.reeftankpro.com/
