  1. He is still alive thankfully, but has a long ways to go based on fb posts from his family. One easy way to help is to go here, if you can spare 5 bucks it all adds up. I know it would mean allot to him. http://www.gofundme.com/HopeforBrandonK?fb_action_ids=925969574088768&fb_action_types=og.shares I believe his forum name is ThumperSS. He was quite active locally here but just sold his tank and livestock the week before this happened, uncanny. He was much more active on the facebook side after the site crash. I still will gladly participate with some frags if an auction is pulled together.
  2. Nice to meet you Steve! Glad the frags are doing well, you are one lucky guy winning two of them
  3. Fun meeting, big thanks to Higher Thinking for organizing and BadX for all the great shots. It was nice to put faces to names. The behind the scenes tours were excellent. Really enjoyed it.
  4. Ah good point. I wonder if a standalone probe would work like those 20 dollar Amazon ones.... Hmmmm
  5. Nice, thanks! Love this hobby, so many aspects to it. My probe was all over the place and very slow to respond so I will probably stick to the more run of the mill tests in the future that I can be successful at. Completely enjoyed trying this out, good stuff!
  6. I almost forgot one more thing The reef to reef article says to stop adding acid at 4.5 instead of 4.2 I repeated the test and stopped at 4.5 It came out to 9.5, right inline with sf and hanna
  7. SF tells me I am at 9.3, almost identical to Hanna. Who knows??!! I know, stability is key. Well it was too fun not to try. Anyone want to buy some 0.1N acid??
  8. This technique is making the news over at R2R as Randy Holmes Farley did a writeup. Just think, we had it here first, thanks reefnjunkie! My 0.1N acid came today. Like the kid in Christmas Story I rushed up to unwrap it and to the titration test. So I heard this rumor, a rumor that Hanna measures 18% low on alkalinity. So I have been subtracting 18% from it's ready to get to my target (7-8 dkh). Results: 9.24 Hanna (with the 18% adjustment I was thinking, around 7.6, perfect!) 10.64 Titration Uh oh.. Crud! Hanna is less than actual, not 18% more?? I have been higher than I thought the whole time?? Ugh. Time to bust out the SF test and have yet a third number. So 10.64, too high? Higher than I was shooting for...
  9. Pics after 4 months of no cleaning, I sure don't miss it!
  10. Ah crud, fooled again by old posts LOL . Well still, how ever did it turn out? Should be cranking allot of skimmate by now
  11. Wow, what a beauty. Is the verdict in? Any pics/videos of it in action?
  12. 4 months later, I am a believer. I have not cleaned the skimmer neck once in 4 months! There are three surfaces in play here. 1- The inside of the neck - highest priority, affects skimmer performance 2- The outside of the neck - nice to have clean so you can see 3- The inside of the cup - nice to have clean so you can see in Surface 1 is spotless, and the skimmer is skimming like crazy still. Most skimmer neck cleaners only clean surface 1. Tried to take a pic, but it is too dark right now, will try later today.
  13. She's a beauty! Any first impressions?
  14. Wow nice collection, cool! Post some shroom tips sometime if you have any secrets. Some people grow them like Chaeto. For me, chalices grow faster, weird!
  15. Hey, one easy and local idea for you to ponder. The 1/4" bird netting at Wilco and other stores is nearly identical. Honestly I cannot tell the difference between it and the clear stuff. Make sure to by the bird netting though, not the deer netting. The deer netting is not 1/4" holes. If I lived closer, would share. I have a lifetime supply of 1/4" black netting. GLWSearch...
  16. Do you carbon dosing vodka, sugar, vinegar or any of the proprietary carbon sources by chance?
  17. Cool, thanks! I was googling around and found the DIY version also: http://www.nano-reef.com/topic/324974-diy-oxydator-experiment/ Huge caution though, a local reefer/buddy made one of the DIY versions (not the commercial). It tipped over and put H202 and lead in his tank, lost almost everything. So make sure it is in a safe place!!
  18. Interesting info on the oxydator. Where did you find one to order in the US?
  19. Good luck, they can be a pain! I had allot of nuisance issues, the final fix for me was sucking out the sand FWIW. Tank shots are beautiful but the way.
  20. Finally have my phosphates under control, algae too. Things are looking good, I plan to start doing some frags again. I still have the one we were supposed to trade a while back. Looking forward to resuming trading!
  21. Love it, cool, thanks for sharing. I personally cannot leave my house without tank cams, running a few in the office, helps me relax while away. Now maybe I can up it to 4??!!
  22. I see you managed to get a tank in that corner where you were hoping to move your other tank! Something told me you would never go tankless Very nice build, congrats!
  23. Yep, if you do what Matty suggests, you will have the equivalent of a hard wire and yes it will work with fusion!
