  1. My rock and sand was heavily used also. However many people get away with it without issue all the time. For some odd reason for me, it took many months then I had a GHA explosion! I have all these early pictures of the tank and the rock is spotless. Then out of the blue, bam! The rumor is it will absorb phosphate up to a point, then start releasing it. Did you get a chance to test phosphate? My phosphate was quite high during all of this. I did allot to try and reduce it but ultimately it started taking care of itself when I took out the sand. Once the sand was gone, the cleanup crew could actually keep up. I have thee very fat sea hair's that are going to need a new home as they ate every last spec of GHA. Again, not saying this is always the cause, just sharing my particular situation. Personally after this, as a wise reefer told me 'any new rock in my tank will go through the muriatic acid treatment' and I am on board with that to avoid this in the future. Good luck, it is so frustrating!
  2. The money pit, so true! Welcome back
  3. Congrats on the sargassum, a cool trigger. I like their eyes, the top where they are blue. A crosshatch would be cool, but I am going to lay low on acquisitions for a while. OIAB did have a beautiful blue cheek also that just came in.
  4. Really looks great Jeff, those colonies are getting huge!
  5. For me I had phosphate laden sand. Once I started siphoning that out, things were allot better. Reasons vary for everyone but that was my experience. Good luck, it was a several month battle for me, quite miserable!
  6. Ah well, nothing to be jealous of but I do appreciate the compliment. Your beautiful orange lobo is doing good. I had a not so good period a while back and lost a few heads but it is recovering nicely. First frag has your name on it as promised!
  7. Thanks Steve, this is my first time seeing the arc eye hawk also. Been wanting a pink tail for a long time so this worked out good.
  8. Thanks Jesse, glad you still have a tank going!
  9. Thanks Mike, my son spotted him and convinced me to give it a try. He sits on a giant montipora spongodes and stares me down most of the day. I call that 'personality' haha
  10. Or is it possible that coupling just under the waterline is sucking air? Best of luck hunting it down...
  11. While we are piling on ideas... one more thought. By chance do you have an anti siphon hole above the water line?
  12. That is really cool you noticed that. The fins are so clear, reminds me of a glass cat in freshwater.
  13. Lets just say, my tank is definitely no longer 'shrimp safe' Loving this guy anyways and the hawk fish...
  14. Hmmm, any possibility of a loose fitting sucking air? That is unusual...
  15. Picked up this beautiful pink tail trigger from Ocean in a box this weekend! Such a cool fish, we call him the juggernaut as he is such a beast. Peaceful so far, gets along with the Sargassum Trigger well besides a skirmish the first night over sleeping quarters. Also picked up an arc-eye hawkfish, also very cool. He looks allot like this:
  16. It is so darn sad, he truly loves that girl. The board is setting everything up for us similar to your fundraiser Kim. I am ready to frag for a good cause! Are you with me people!!???
  17. Lots of nice zoas, congrats! A mini zoa display makes allot of sense, they get lost sometimes in the monster tanks. What a nice way to showcase them.
  18. I can see the full siphon as a straight drain for sure, how deep you need it depends on flow so it doesn't suck air. If you can, experiment before making anything permanent. For the durso, that definitely seems more challenging to keep it quiet without the T. Or alternatively, at least a 90 + street 90. On that config you can drill a hole in the top of the 90s and stuff an airline tubing just barely into it for the air intake. Good discussion!
  19. Some great footage in there, interesting to learn these guys discovered the Miami Vice zoa, cool!
  20. You might be able to use a chop saw to shorten the T if you are close to getting it to fit. Don't hold it with your fingers though, put a piece of pipe in it to hold it, then cut the T off short. Then use a street 90 add a little teflon if necessary to make it tight. Hope you can pull it off!
  21. Hey good point, my Sicce on the SWC 200 is kaput... Great skimmer body, always scheming right?

    Fts friday -

Hey thanks, It is one hardy elegance. Bought it from a member who was moving at this nice size/price. A Wp-60 fell of the back wall one night. The flow flipped the elegance and buried it under inches of sand upside down. That was about a month ago, cannot believe it lived! I have had others you just look at them funny and they die.
  23. Tank is looking great Frank, it is incredible the growth you get, amazing!
